  1. someone is blowing smoke. if they had no scan tool how did they come to the conclusion that it needed a cam sensor? guess? is that worth 800bucks? they should be about a $400 repair on average. To answer your question there are several scans tools that will work with the early PSD. the NGS, NGS+, WDS, PDA and of course the IDS. I would really hope a dealer would at least have a couple of those. they can not perform repairs on late model vehicles currently without the IDS now anyway
  2. well thats just cute, now we will be doing another program to correct the speed limiter. nice. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hitthefan.gif
  3. I dont think they where ever doing 100, I beleive it was 92mph. wierd that the programming changed it. I have never concern with it however I am programming mostly 450s-550s.
  4. nice another addition to my 6.4 pile of TSBs. I guess this is supposed to be a limited problem however with it being a TSB it would lead me to beleive its a little more common than we thought.
  5. thats a good idea, they are pretty affordable to. most major company's have them too like sprint and verizon.
  6. Nets is used to program the 650s-750s and LCFs. Its a nav program like master diagnostics. I have never had a corrupt file tho, I have had one now take the new program and saying there was an error. Never did wipe my ECM processor
  7. Jim, very good post. I have learned to do alot of the things you are talking about throguhout my short career. I am only 25 but been in the business since 18. Ive worked at 3 dealers, the first for about 6 years and was kinda in the same position of no respect whatsoever, sometimes you just need to make the hard choice to go elsewhere. I am finally at a place that thinks highly of me and I see a future here. It was the best choice I could have made. I just finished my senior master cert the end of last year. Take Jims words of advice to heart, he speaks the truth and it will really help you gain respect in the trade and your store. Become that go to guy. Be efficient in getting the trucks done but also make sure its right and no evidence of you being there. I love the personal aspect of talking with customers. sometimes having them talk with you face to face will insure you get the "right" info for the concern. It also makes them feel a little more appricated when the tech takes time to explain something to them. Sometimes with management you need to call their bluff. At first I had a few run in myself. there for the first few months of the new job they question my ability, knowledge or concern for the customer. I was prepared with plenty of ammo to back myself up, once this respect became established it was a no brainier for them. they let me do my thing because they know it will get handled as it should as quick as it can. Good luck to you and I hope it works out.
  8. I am seeing more and more on the road around here. I think they have been off to a slow start dude to a 4k price increase, timid customers thinking we have another 6.0 on our hands, and its super ugly /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
  9. Figured this one out. you need to exit and delete the session and restart a new one before it will tell you it has the latest calibration. just food for thought
  10. Just did this TSB today, its easy and an hour is about right. might take 20minutes once you have done one. just cant do it when the truck is off the road hot. once you take that heat sheild off there is clear as day evidence of a leak at the downpipe. for this customer it cured his exhuast smell during regen.
  11. yeah it was probably run long enough to destroy itself
  12. yeah I got paid to drop what I was doing to go watch it. problem is I stayed about 2hours late catching up from the loss of time working.
  13. called in to todays diesel talk live broadcast to get an answer on this. they took down my info and called me back later in the day. Its supposed to be normal if you dont close the programming tool screen. which I do then clear codes. i have even closed the session and reopend. dunno I am going to get a truck in here and try what they suggested and if it doesnt work I will call back.
  14. I was just going to post this but you beat me too it. I saw this yesterday and have a truck with this problem coming in next week. make sure you order your parts upfront since they are on backorder as of yesterday.
  15. A little update....I got this truck back for the recall and got a chance to double check it after about 3k miles. no codes but the fuel trim is still kinda weird. maybe its normal. either way there has been no additional problems with it
  16. yes simple green is the best bet for these things. get it nice and hot and start pulling plugs and hoses. ford will pay actual time of 2 hours once and only once so make it good.
  17. I dunno, yanking an engine is a pretty extensive repair for just injectors. cant imagine ford or the customer wanting to pay for that. now maybe if there was a bedplate leak that is all too common and kill two birds with one stone....... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif
  18. I get these on a daily basis too and it does get old. After spending 30minutes to try and explain how they should go about a diag or repair, finding out they don't have any of the right tools or knowledge they ask If I want side work. I politely tell them no and give them a quote so they can bring it into the shop for repair. Most of the time its fleet accounts with trucks that are out of warranty. I do however get the occasional truck that broke down on the side of the road and the driver decided to pull all the fuses out and set them on the seat. I have yet to figure this out? how does that help make it run? My personal favrote and will irritate me in a heartbeat is the guy that takes his truck apart, decided he is in over his head and brings it to the shop in pieces. Then gets mad cause I charge him a little more labor to figure out his mess, his response is "I took it apart already" some people you just want to smack upside the head.
  19. I don't think i would want to set it for once out of 30days. I like to keep updated so I leave mine to every few days. It only takes a minute or so to perform. good insurance
  20. no it isnt but we are kinda stuck with them being one of the main dealers to service them. just wait til it takes you an hour just to get the doghouse off due to all the electronics for a meat wagon. most of the time I pull both seats, all the radios, computers, monitors etc out just to gain access. Ive done several engines in these things too. injectors are by far the worst job tho. there just isnt any easy way to get to them.
  21. I see alot of buses and ambos and they dont get any easier to work on. However they pay decent.

  23. I dont think they have much trouble have the means to burn themselfs down to the ground with things like thermal events! It wouldnt take much heat to loosen up that loctight. Ford trys to make something easier and makes it more difficult in the process....go figure
  24. yes the inductive program is on the 4.5s now too. It works just as good. The 650-750s are hit and miss tho. I have had some take and others not.
