  1. I havent caught the fordstar yet. I heard rumors of a broadcast but havent had time. the biggest thing is there is a reason the egr vavle gets clogged, cleaning isnt going to take care of the root concern. seems no one goes after that. On the other hand ford(dealer warrenty nazis) do not want to pay to go farther so it always just ends up getting cleaned and shipped
  2. So whats this I hear that the TSB is no longer a valid repair? I know I was on vacation a week and aparently I have missed this critical info??? whats the valid repair now?
  3. branch tubes suck no matter how you put it. I dont really thing there are any short cuts on those stupid things. I would hope super tech was refering to is hour repair for an stc. thats pushing it a little but I do know I can have one done in maybe about 2 if my tools are out, can find the leak and verify rather quickly. Most are not that obvious however and I take my time to get it right but they are really gravy to do
  4. who has been on it? I just went this year. I acquired my senior masters late last year. I just got back from he cruise last week and I must say it was a very well thought out and out together event. I was impressed to say the least. Brings back some confidence that ford thinks highly of their techs.
  5. A little of this and this but I sold my beloved bronco in favor of a smaller lighter toyota. but hey at least Im putting some ford parts on it! Its still under construction removed the bed and shorted the wheelbase and frame.
  6. dont forget about the turbo coking tsb if its over boosting causing egr cooler failure then headgasket failure. If your shop is anything like mine getting mt time is like pulling teeth. basically we diag for free since the tsb is all actual time. Im usually in the 20-25hr range too. Ive been known to get around 30 too
  7. Yeah it sucks to spend so much time and overlook something. However these things are differnt way of diag and thinking compared to a 6.0. The MD software sucks in my opinion! I think this a big reason why I missed this. seeing low oil pressure on a 6.0 wouldnt indicate a turbo problem. That and never having to diag a twin turbo on a LCF. I was chasing the low HP oil instead of the low boost numbers, which really were not that low. Normally low HP oil would cause low boost so thats where I would go first. That bit me in the ass. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crybaby2.gif
  8. well found the turbo took a dump. I was barking up the wrong tree the entire time(thanks hotline!) anyway what confused me was the low high pressure oil. I ended up getting a stock unit to swap parts until I found the issue. many parts later I swapped turbos and fixed the truck. I took apart the old turbo and found excessive coking in the smaller(secondary) turbo and excessive endplay. It would free up when hot tho so I assume this is why it ran better warm. I looked at it early on but the engine was warm when so I assume I missed it then. Now that the turbo is off and taken apart the impeller is pretty much locked up. I suspect the coking to be from the closed crankcase recall, poor maintance and extended idle time. Maybe something to look forward too in the future. This is the first turbo I have replace on a LCF due to a performance problem. Now I know what to look for.
  9. Almost 75% of the coolers I get are hydroed. seems fleet customers dont stop for anything until it wont run any longer. even with an extreme overheat. Just keep filling up the coolant it will be fine! anyway Ive never had one bend a rod. Ive even bumped it by the starter enough to free up the engine. Im sure there is always the one out there tho. I have seen a guy working on 7.3 do it.
  10. Ive done 3 now I think....its about 1.5-2 hour job. I just fill it like a 6.0 too. I have yet to have a problem. I dont think the service manual mentioned anything about special bleeding of the main coolant system? I havent seen anything other than the fuel system cooler being an issue. for your veiwing pleasure
  11. the first one I had that did that to be kicked my ass. oh the simple issues that hide themselves /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif
  12. check the downpipe gasket for leaks. TSB 07-7-7. kinda a long shot but worth a look
  13. whats worse is the people that bid on them on ebay. imposters? or just candian? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cover.gif
  14. yup I performed an air check first thing to make sure. Hell I have even pulled the covers and plus to check them. replaced both stand pipes cause I had them laying around and inspected the plugs to be 100% sure.
  15. Jim is jealous he cant not be part of the diesel gang in thier leather jackets, j/k jim /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif what I want to know is how a guy that wears a 5X fits under the hood?
  16. Here we go with another stumper. Thats been my life it seems lately!! 07 LCF with about 31k on it. poor maintance of 3-4k miles a week and only changing oil once a month. First thing was to get good oil but did not change my issue. Everything checks out it for the most part, I swapped alot of stuff over just to rule that out for cause. ICP,IPR,MAF,MAP,EBP, etc. I had some codes for MAF and IAT but this company likes to unplug stuff when their junk doesnt run right. I am having an issue with HP oil pressure. I am only seeing about 1700-1800psi WOT, I can not get above 3k rpms either. fuel pressure is ok, base engine oil pressure is good, oil is good. IPR was swapped with known good along with ICP. no wiring issues from what I can tell. I went ahead and replaced the high pressure oil pump and made a small change in results. I am now seeing about 2200-3400psi under WOT when engine is hot so its changed. Still does not run correctly and I might only see 10psi of boost if Im lucky. very erratic oil pressure still. sometimes it might be up in the 3k range then drop back down around 2200. I pulled the oil cooler out to check the screen for debris maybe starving the pump but did get much to worry about. EOT and ECT are within about 15 degrees of each other too. This was per hotline which seems stumped as well. thoughts?
  17. for free its not too bad of a jacket. I was rather impressed with the quality even if its made in china
  18. how so? I have seen several trucks with gasket problems have overheat concerns as well. Most recent was an LCF. It would get hot and vent coolant. Sure it would loose a little coolant but no more than 1half gallon. I could not verify it until it was loaded down and I drove the crap out of it. I checked everything including the water pump, radiator, t-stat, oil cooler and egr cooler. nothing was at fault. as a last resort I pulled the heads. the left head gasket took a dump and was leaking combustion right into a coolant passage. Every 6.0 I pull the heads off I find the spot in the gasket that it has been leaking. Its obvious. If its not I check the heads and end up finding a crack or whatever.
  19. Yes I pull the evap case. I can have the right side down in a little over an hour including pulling the case, turbo, intake, etc. just get your tools out, turn on some loud music(I prefer metal) and get to work. I know every bolt, nut and the combo to get on them. makes stuff quick when all you do is pull apart 6.0s all day. going back together is a little more of a pain but coming apart is easy and quick. going together takes about a day to finish. Torquing is a bitch and yes it does suck in cab. I just sac up and pull away on the cheater bar. Its a work out and m back loves me by the time I'm done but its better than pulling the cab I think. I have seen guys use an impacts for torquing but dont recommend it. there is a procedure for a reason. oh and Im only 25 so that might have something to do with getting done a little quicker than you old guys /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/poke.gif Also I agree with making sure its the gaskets but just do the venting TSB and it will walk you through testing everything. We do alot of headgaskets in AZ with the heat. Ive had like 3 LCFS the past few weeks need gaskets too. Alot of times ou will only get an overheat or vent problem when the truck is loaded and running hard. I do do more EGR coolers and oil coolers than heads tho. Look real close at the gaskets when you get them off, you will see where they leak.
  20. swapped gens and still got the P0620 and p0623 to come back but no P1149. I double checked my charge output and its inline with your specs bruce. It will drop down around the 20amp range after a couple minutes of idle time. I checked at both the gen and batterys and it was a little higher at the gen like it should be. no worrys there. I disconnected cicuit 1185, yellow pin 4 of the processor like bruce suggested and drove it. I have yet to get any type of codes back so far. I plan to drive it further to see what happens. crossing my fingers /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/icon_crazy.gif Im about to /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/flamethrower.gif this truck!
  21. heads are gravy, when your good you can get those suckers off in less than 2 hours if you bust your ass. pulling cabs are more of a hassle in my opinion
  22. mine was doing the same thing, we let the vehicle go as it was not being complained about. WE have to watch our numbers right :crazy : I am wondering if this is going to be a common problem???
