Thing is, there's no messages for the EGRTA de-rate... Truck will lose speed, I had one doing this and it was really difficult to duplicate the concern, and the truck eventually finally set a P040D pointing me in that direction. It would be handy if it threw a little message up on the IC that said "Vehicle over temperature, limited engine power" while it was in de-rate so at least the customer could have some feedback or maybe know that this is a normal condition. Obviously this could be ignored during regeneration, or at least have a little higher threshold for the message being displayed... Kinda like if EGRTA > 1310 for >3-5 seconds display message. Since the truck de-rates at that temp anyway, it should only show up if it sees that over temp a couple times in a row, or if it sees it stay hot, like the commanded de-rate isn't working. Hard accel a truck in regeneration and watch EGRTA and you can actually see/feel the truck de-rate when the EGT gets up that high.

No Crank/No Start with ECT_13 Issues (Common?)
Aaron replied to BLittle500's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
When all else fails, heat the nut part on the sensor up after breaking it off carefully till it's glowing, then hit it with cold water to quench it. It'll twist out with your fingers. That is usually what I try first. And just for the incident of failure of this sensor? I got one in the center console I can plug into the harness should the sensor fail on the road, so I can get to the next stop to change 'er out. Had a tow in with the no crank/no start, walked out with IDS, checked codes, popped the hood and bumped the starter over with the wire under the hood, drove the truck into the shop. Customer standing there: "How the fuck'd you do that?!" The sensor in that one was going back and forth between about 80F and -40 with the truck running, or KOEO. Changed out the sensor, good to go. -
We didn't get a road test, either. I will say this though, now that I got the door panel rattle fixed in my truck, I had really forgotten how quiet that 6.4 really is.

^^^ Correct on the 6 cylinder info Gym! I'd love to build a straight-axle Econoline with a big inch motor in it, or a turbo motor. This is the first Econo that came to mind: The Back Up Pick Up! And in the style of pickup/tradesman vehicles: (Yes i know it's a dodge lol) This was back when radial tires weren't even a thought, and a 10" tire was a 10" tire...not a 10.5W (which measures out at almost 14" wide depending on rim width) I think I was born in the wrong era.

I'm okay with the size of my wiener, don't need bolt-ons on my truck to compensate for it.2 Guy said to me once in a parking lot, Wow, you must be compensating for something, driving something like that. "Yeah, I'm 6'5 and I need the legroom?"

Gotta like 'er!

I didn't fail the test, for the record. I just got the two questions wrong about the order of aftertreatment components.
-
That's why i didn't dive too much into a technical overview of his turbo choice.

Either way...you got a 24% difference between 355 and 270... How many miles/hours on it? And how does it "sound" cranking over with all the glow plugs and injectors in it? What I mean is, does it crank over 'even' or does it speed up and slow down? Do the lower measured compression cylinders have less temperature at the exhaust manifold than the rest?

Why run the course if we're not prepared. From what our instructor told us, they are shortening this class to 2-1/2 days, and they are going to need to add another driveability based class sometime in the summer to fill in the gaps left by the missing PC/ED, WSM, and other materials. Pay careful attention to the order of aftertreatment components in the book for cab/chassis and wide-frame (pickup). It's on the test.

Jim, reminds ya of the guys with the 250+ degree cams at .050 that sounds bad ass, but the thing wont pull the skin off a grape because it's still got a stock stall converter and 2.73 sprockets in the back?
-
It's not that bad of a sensor to change. Pull the inner fender, heat the piss out of the bung in the pipe, and wind 'er out.
-
YES and before the code sets the sensor can go enough out of range to cause a De rate that's nearly impossible to duplicate, as well as there is no info provided to the driver that the truck is de-rating, according to the hotline. BTDTGTTS as Bruce would say

I get in my truck, and fire it up, and drive it. It makes boost. With two turbos. If the idea should ever possess me to replace the factory turbos with aftermarket units, its still gonna have two, because re-engineering the entire way everything works seems like the reward isn't really worth the stretch.

Take out your check valves! http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=150427276305 Give me a break.

Dave was the instructor and make sure you print off a copy of the coffee table book before you go just in case Ford doesn't have 'em anymore. And BYOC (bring your own coffee). If memory serves me rightly we discussed that code at school, once i get my book dug up here I will see what my notes say.

I personally didn't find the 6.7 we had at school a great deal quieter than my 6.4 at idle. MARGINALLY quieter at higher RPM, but not by much, in my opinion.

http://powerstrokenation.com/forums/showthread.php?t=51346&showall=1 I found the thread... It appears that he fabricated everything himself. Looks pretty good to me.

pfft...i did classroom and didn't get a hard copy. Instructor didn't even have one.
-
Someone please explain the logic of putting a single turbo on a 6.4? That actuator is going to dent the hood...
-
I got that one, I didn't get an IN PRINT one, or one to refer to during the test, where it would have been helpful answering the questions regarding the order of the aftertreatment components in the exhaust system on the cab and chassis.
-
Oh, heh...funny story... I DIDNT GET A FUCKING COFFEE TABLE BOOK! Sorry for the outburst, rant is over.
-
I thought the early ones had an inline 6 in 'em?
-
Damn, I thought you had the answer of what was in those 6.4 stats in the free t-shirt post.

My internets are going backwards it's going so slow, Is it in the MASTER DTC chart? I seem to recall finding it there on another vehicle application, but can't remember offhand WHERE I saw it now.
