  1. Went down to Camas, Washington last week to visit some friends for a week. 2 days of driving each way. Booked a room in Spokane for the first night because that was the intended route, Edmonton AB, through Banff, Radium, then down to Spokane. After that, down to the Columbia river via Kenewick and over to Camas. The trip home was not planned, wasn't sure if we wanted to go up to Seattle and over the border by Vancouver or go back the same way as we came down...... Well.....Needless to say, we went to Seattle, then crossed over the border at Abbotsford. No hotels there, it's only 10 PM, so onto Hope. Nothing appealling so we pushed onto Merrit, ditto. Next was Kamloops, same thing booked up. Getting close to sun up now. The wife was getting some sleep up to this point, so we switched off and continued up to Jasper then back home to Edmonton. Sometimes it bites back harder than you think, that was the longest any of us have ever been in a vehicle. 1 1/2 days of straight driving. On a plus, my 2002 Windstar with 263,300 KM did not miss a beat.
  2. I used to power up the pump all the time until it came back and bit me in the ass once. Did not leak with the cab up, but it leaked once the customer got it back. Once I found out about oiling up the washers, I stopped testing it before dropping the cab and have had no leaks to this day...knock on wood...
  3. We have one in here with the EGR valve unplugged. He says since the last update the fan runs more than normal. It's a pumped up 2003.
  4. Aquired a chrome 13mm socket, at least I think it is chrome. It was in the turbine housing of the turbo I took apart on my current headgasket job.
  5. I put one back together that the other tech took apart, I didn't notice the plug he put into the supply line. Same concerns as yours. I would go with the blockage idea. I noticed that the fluid would not flow in the res. when it was running.
  6. So I've heard, he brings you up at every course I have ever been too.....I kid... It's a very informative course, you should get a lot out of it. As far as the post test goes, I don't recall it being that bad. Post any new juicy info you get from Darryl on the engine please.
  7. I need one, can't find one. Anyone able to point me in the right direction? Thanks....
  8. Had an ambulance in with the same thing. 159,000 km on odometer, 5050 hours on the meter( thats a lot of idling). Blew of both rockers on #3 and bent 1 pushrod. Pulled both heads and found some odd wear patterns on the valve stems but the lifters were fine. The rest of the rockers all had the little tips worn right off them. 2 heads and all new rockers and bridges got this one back on the road courtesy of Ford.
  9. That hose goes down beside the part of the filter pulls air from under the hood. If the filter was slightly plugged or the foam was removed, I could see it sucking in coolant under a high load. Now to figure out why the secondary system would have purged coolant in the first place.
  10. We were asked to fill it out, and to be brutally honest. We can't let Ford think they are perfect.
  11. There are no broken Fords down the road at the other dealership....just chevys....
  12. Anyone else have this issue? I ran the EGR test no problems. When running the boost test the EGRVP pid reads 0 volts and won't continue. IDS is at 73.05.
  13. How would one torque the gear bolt? Not enough room to get a torque wrench on it when its bolted to the engine. Anyone torqued the drive gear on the bench and if so...how? Don't feel comfortable putting the gear in the vice.
  14. The only thing stopping me from lifting the cab was a pipe rack, It could be removed if I decided to continue with the full cab lift. Too my surprise all the exhaust bolts came out very nicely. In the future I think I will start this way and only do the full lift if I have too many issues with the exhaust bolts.
  15. Tried the cab tilt for a turbo removal. In addition to the procedure I had to disconnect the ebrake cable from the frame. Driver's battery neg. cable had to be taken off. I didn't have to remove the degas bottle to remove the turbo crossover tube, so I didn't have to drain the coolant either. Really opens it up.
  16. If you have a G-MAIL account you may already know about google plus. The "hangout" feature is quite nice and I think will work well for techs with laptops with built in webcams, when looking for help. Just start a hangout and hope another tech is logged in to receive the invite. If enough of us are interested we could get our own circle going. Let me know and I will post my ID.
  17. We must be very lucky here, or extremely blessed. Since the 6.4 came out I have changed maybe 5 up-pipes, 2 of those on the same vehicle.
  18. Sadly, unlike the 6.4 injector recall, they have no way of tracking which went where. A recall would most likely mean replacing every hold down on all trucks affected, which may cost way to much to be feasible. If they feel the numbers are low enough there will not be a recall.
  19. IIRC, the upper fan shroud is the only thing listed in the old procedure that I never took off. Hopefully it won't drop the times too much.
  20. One more note to add to this, The engineers are now telling me that manual regen is not required when replacing the NOX sensor. I have a querry into hotline as to why and will update when they or if they respond. Here is my chat with hotline: Description of vehicle concern: MIL on, lacks power Diagnostics performed: koeo, checked oasis ssm 21894 perfromed roadtest and procedure, code still returns p164a, ppt rd DTC Codes: p164a Parts replaced: nox sensor Tech's question: Although not stated in pced for this code. Is manual regen still recommended to be performed after NOX replacement as well as ssm 21894 after replacement? Hotline response: Leon, The P164a is addressed in the latest PCM calibration update. Please perform TSB 11-04-21 to reprogram the PCM to the latest level. Once reprogrammed, perform the SSM drive cycle again. You do not need to perform a manual regen. The vehicles warranty repair history does not indicate the vehicle has been reflashed with the latest update. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Additional Diag/Comments Comment from: technician Comment Date: 6/30/2011 3:13:43 PM If I may be so bold. After replacing NOX sensors when all other attempts to repair P164A fail, why are we no longer performing the manual regen? Comment from: Hotline Comment Date: 6/30/2011 3:25:50 PM Leon, We were performing manual regen's to clean the soot off the original NOx sensor to see if this would resolve the concern. The soot build up on the sensor can cause the NOx sensor to react slower than it should and it can cause this issue. But since we are replacing the NOx sensors with updated parts, there is no reason for performing the manual regen for the p164a. If a regen is needed, then we can perform it. Please make sure we have installed NOx sensor part number BC3Z-9D378-G. Then perform the SSM and thoroughly retest. If the p164a returns, run through ppt KA 3 to make sure there are no leaks in the exhaust system. You do not need to perform the entire ppt, just KA 3. If there are no leaks, replace the NOx module, perform SSM 21894 and retest. Comment from: technician Comment Date: 6/30/2011 3:32:31 PM I was always under the assumption that manual regen was performed AFTER the new sensor was installed, not before. I have never been told to perform the regen to clean the sensor first, before replacing it,only after. Are the new sensors less prone to slowing down with soot build up? How do I know if regen is required? Comment from: Hotline Comment Date: 6/30/2011 3:48:05 PM Leon, That is correct. The updated sensors will be more responsive and less prone to issues with soot build up, etc. A regeneration can be performed if the PCM is currently requesting regeneration which would be indicated on the IC. Please proceed with the previously provided recommendation. If further assistance is needed, please contact the Technical Hotline by phone using the red contact ID listed on the hotline assistance request. The Technical Hotline can be reached at 1-800-826-4694. Am I missing something here? Were we not told to perform the regen after NOX replacement, not before?
  21. I here ya. I was going to get into carpentry or computers. Although I know where my path changed. The carpentry course in high school was full and I took the wrong computer course, in the end I took Automotives instead. IDIOT......
  22. One pin fell out of the BJB for the left bank glow plugs. It's warranty so I get to replace the entire engine bay harness. Other than a few scrapes, it's not so bad.
