6.4L Engine Pictures
snw blue by you replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Jim, I've been to busy to comment, ya know some of us actually work for a living and can't get online much. But seriously and all kidding aside, Bruce's pics are awesome and put alot in perspective. I am looking foward to it for now at least. One things for sure, it's 50 lbs of crap in a 5 lb bag. -
6.0 Branch Tube...
snw blue by you replied to DamageINC's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Not for nothing Dave, but my question is whether the other tech was putting the correct o-ring in place. The kits I have recieved have 2 o-rings that fit but only one is correct. The incorrect one will blow out at WOT, or as it is max ICP. It will start and run at idle and PT all day but as soon as pressure starts toward the 4000 psi mark.... See ya. Go on ask me how I know. Trying to rush out a job and didn't pay attention to my parts selection, only made that mistake once and it will never happen again. -
Adding Acetone To Fuel

Oh sure, now the health of the planet rests on my shoulders? Gee Jim, thanks! Not like I don't already have enough on my plate. -
Everyone please read!!!!
snw blue by you replied to Jim Warman's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I have always explained to customers who doubt the 6.0L (based mostly on internet chatter)that the 6.0 is actually a decent motor and most problems have been caused by the ancilliary items, i.e, injectors, HPOP, o-rings, turbos, etc. In my case I have seen very few engine hard part failures although I'm sure they happen. As for air testing, call me stubborn, but I always start with bank 2 and as a result the FICM is removed, so this is not a problem for me. -
high diesel numbers
snw blue by you replied to tecanic1's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Personally I love how Ford all of a sudden does not want us to use the diagnostic guide to DIAGNOSE diesel performance and no starts. I don't know about anyone else but I was repairing 7.3 IDIs under warranty when new and 6.9s that were just a few years old and the diag standard was the worksheet. Now it seems Ford would like us to solve all the 6.0s issues with the publishing of 3 TSBs. It's not my fault stock is only valued at 8 bucks a share and Ford has lost their ass but they sure want to treat me like it is. Yeah I'm high but as a customer told me today, he recieved 4 recomendations to bring his rig to me. A delaminating tank, a fuel pump, and 4 injectors. Is any of this my fault? I think not. On the list to do, 3 turbos 2 heads and a leaking rear main on an FQR 7.3 that has been in service a whopping 2 weeks(More on that later) To paraphrase a line from the good book, "take care of the board in your own eye before you worry about the spec in someone else's eye" -
FICM Reflash and Recalls on E-Series
snw blue by you replied to Keith Browning's topic in FSA - TSB - SSM
I don't know if it's right or not and no one said otherwise, but if I an doing a reflash for a recall or anything else that may require a reflash I have the advisors add a line for "Morning Sickness" as Jim called it. Alls fair in love and war. As well if it's an E series the line should be added without question, this removes doubt if there will be an issue if the harness mod is not done. BTW the 6 trucks (2 E-Lines) I have done have had a marked improvement in cold weather startup. -
Mandatory Training!
snw blue by you replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I am looking foward to this, dare I say I am excited about the 6.4L. Perhaps it is as simple as working on something different for a change. I can't wait! -
Fluid in Turbo
snw blue by you replied to snw blue by you's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
The writer had spoke with one of the shops guys and they had no idea. They said they didn't use anything to try and start the truck. The truck belongs to a very respected heavy equipment dealer, (it is one of their service trucks) so for now I am going to take them at their word, and see what happens when I fire it up. I'll keep ya posted on what I find -
Fluid in Turbo
snw blue by you replied to snw blue by you's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Yeah it beads, and it seperates from the oil, but it is gold in color, I was thinking coolant, but it is not low, and there is nothing in the CAC. -
Has anybody seen this before? This is a new one for me. Seems like water, looks like fuel, can't determine where it came from, possibly out of the crankcase breather, but it seems dry. The fresh air system was closed when the truck came in. It is a no start that I have narrowed down to the HPOP connector. I have no idea what this will do upon startup.
-
Not sure about how the truck looks as a 250, 350 is ok, 450 is bad as hell! I have been comparing the pics with the Tonka and except for the lights, it looks more like it than ever. I also think it looks like a 60s vintage Super Duty, i.e the old Matchbox 6 wheel towtruck but damn if I can find a pic to compare it to(Damn did I just date myself). I find the 6.4L interesting, looks like 50 lbs of crap in a 10 lb bag though. Never thought I'd say this but I can't wait for school.
-
Noooooooooooooooo! I like it just the way it is now. Makes doin' the HPOP much more tolerable. Oh and can't forget about the y-pipe. My stance is that if the engine is maintained properly we won't have any dusted cylinders but that is just my

Seeing alot of P0401s lately. Just replace IAT2 and be done with it. This can be verified by the rise in temp. All of them rose immediately but the increase was slow. I have done 8 trucks and they have all been fine. I have been meaning to take pics but have not had the chance. Believe me they get pretty goobered up.

egr valve zero position relearn
snw blue by you replied to jaysonfordtech's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
"I found the codes went away after this hoke poke dance, and the concern of the customer was a turbo that sticks hot after about 20 miles. I got about 29psi at 75mph." I am confused. Was the turbo actually sticking or not? Did performing SSM 19141 correct the issue, or did you replace the turbocharger? I don't see where doing the VGT learn procedure is going to correct any mechanical issue. I also assume that since they told you to this, that this truck was included in the 06E17 FSA. My experience with this FSA is that if issues arise after the reflash, there are mechanical issues lurking that require repair. It is also my experience that you can also complete a relearn (mature) and still have issues. I have found Y-Pipe leaks to be the leading culprit, then sticking turbos. Keep in mind, these are completely stock trucks. I refuse to perform the FSA on trucks with mods. I already have a wife. -
Fuel Additive Not 2007 Approved
snw blue by you replied to Keith Browning's topic in Fuels - Oils - Additives - Chemicals
But what Ford is telling us (the consumer) is that the '07 does not require ULSD exclusively, and that the use of LSD and it's additives is ok. I printed out the message, and gave it to the writers so they can show the customers with '07s Might sound funny, but due to the labeling on the pumps,we have had customers call or come in and ask about what they can and cannot run. In simplest terms, the '07 does not require ULSD, however the '08 will. -
Fuel Additive Not 2007 Approved
snw blue by you replied to Keith Browning's topic in Fuels - Oils - Additives - Chemicals
Keith, This sounds like more confusing B.S I call your attention to SSM 19217 In essense it says our '07 has a carry over '06 engine and fuel system design so LSD and it's additives will not cause any issues. However the '08 6.4L will be a different story. -
PERSONAL 6.0L FIASCOES
snw blue by you replied to Brad Clayton's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Who, me? Alright,I'll fess up. '05 350. Long crank, hard start. Perform diag, low ICP. Air test shows leak at pump. Standard fare,no big deal. Replace pump and connector as required, and attempt to start. Nothing, nada, just more cranking, and zero ICP pressure Recheck, huge air leak at the pump. Crap, now I gotta take it all back apart. Needless to say as soon as the cover was off,I saw the problem. Now,I can make excuses, like I was sick with the flu(which I was)and I was rushing in order to get the customer back in his truck(big rig roadside service truck)but the bottom line is, I screwed up! Anybody? Yea,I bolted the connector on upside down! That'll never happen again! Doh! -
Yahoo! I'm 25.00 richer, and I still got another spin! Believe me, there will be many more to come. Take advantage of this! It's 25 bucks I didn't have this morning, and there are more tools to buy from RTTP. NOW,WHERE IS MY TRUCK?!

Stupid Customer Tricks - Part 3
snw blue by you replied to Keith Browning's topic in The Water Cooler
My best one happened on the now defunct 6.0L PSD site, where I answered someone's thread about installing a dummy EGR valve. I'm sure some on here remember. Boy did I get a ration of shit for that! As you can probably tell,I have never cared what anyone thought,or lost any sleep. You want the truth,I'll give it to ya. If ya want me to lie to ya,so ya can muddle along in your stupidity, go somewhere else. But hey, that's just me. -

A torch, a mirror, and a 10mm twist socket will get em' everytime. Use a little patience, and you will not have to cut or break anything. -
You would think something would have made it into the rags by now. Oh well.
