  1. Watch out for the TCM on the left frame rail. The shop manual makes no mention of it, and my rack has a tendency to hit it when lifting the body. Also, NO IMPACT ON THE BODY BOLTS. I have found that using an impact makes the nut more likely to spin.
  2. I deal with a lot of REALLY anal customers. I would be too afraid of a 'bad guy situation' from doing that.
  3. The first thing I thought of was a dead mouse on the right side. Then I thought maybe a second dead mouse on the left. It's probably just me, but the one on the left looks like a piece of meat.
  4. The trucks I have had that didn't have either a leaking EGR cooler or leaking headgaskets DID NOT have cooling system pressure even close to this. Your cooling system pressure is exceeding the holding pressure of the cap, therefore it is venting. I'm going to assume that you did the on vehicle EGR cooler leak test and it passed. That would lead me to believe that your headgaskets are leaking.
  5. Has anyone seen this before. A friend from another dealer called me about this truch he's working on. The thing will intermilently lose fuel pressure on the low side causing the P0087. He put a frame mounted fuel pump on it 2000 miles ago. I'm thinking the metal either came from the old frame mounted pump or the high pressure pump. It dosen't make sense that it would take 2000 miles for it to act up agian if it was the old fuel pump. He didn't drop the tank last time.
  6. FWIW, I think most of us here are the diagnosticians. The term 'cut corners' bothers me too. Would you want an airplane mechanic cutting corners? Would you want your kids pediatrician cutting corners?
  7. That is one of my favorite movies.
  8. I think the 16.3psi is too high. What pressure does the cap vent at? I bet it's less than 16.3psi.
  9. They made it sound DEADLY serious, telling everyone to quarantine their parts departments.
  10. I hear ya. At my former place of employment, we had to sign a document stating that we will wear safety glasses and steel toe boots. We also had to sit through a safety meeting and take a test once a year. I totally believe in protective eyewear and boots, but that place was way more interested in covering their own ass than the safety of its employees. We had several hacks that were dangerous to work near. If I was in your predicament, I would be wearing the special ed hat too. I have been told for years that if I get something in my eye and I wasn’t wearing safety glasses insurance wouldn't pay for me to be off work or doctor's bills. I have never thought that is was necessary to wear a helmet when fixing cars and trucks, but I have seen a couple instances where it may have prevented an injury.
  11. OMG, You guys seriously have to wear those stupid looking things?
  12. I can't remember what the DTC was, but I had a few of these on F-Series that would have a code for the FRP sensor, and it was actually a loss of fuel pressure that was the problem The code would set when there was low fuel pressure. One of the vehicles had a brand new FRP sensor and it had crap in the fuel tank. When I looked at the pinpoint test, it was pointing toward the FRP. I will tell you one thing, they aren't accurate. If you put a gauge on the system it will read about 10psi different from the FRP. A hotline engineer told me that this is normal. Like I said, I can't remember what the DTC is that I had so long ago, but just beware.
  13. That is quite the catch 22. Our shop would have put a turbo in it under warranty too. I am glad that this truck is in our shop. Work is work, and I'm not too picky.
  14. I don't think I have ever seen worse headgaskets off a 6.0L. I'm not sure if you can really see it in the pictures, but there is NO sealing material for cylinders 3,5,4,6. Ford called us back and said to just go ahead with the repair. They aren't even going to bother sending an inspector out. This guy got REALLY lucky. Lol
  15. Keith, I saw an installation kit for Ford vans, but I'm not sure if it's the right one because I'm not sure if the step I have is the correct 'series'. I would assume it is because it's the only one listed but you know what happens when we assume. The only contact information I found was a phone number that is no good. My parts guy is like, "just make a bracket. " Yeah no problem, let me just whip one right up. They are pissed because the last guy that installed a step had to make his own bracket and it took him 24.0hrs. Maybe one of the reasons it took so long was because he didn't have an installation kit.
  16. My latest project is to install a motorized step in a 2010 Econoline that is a brand new vehicle that will be used to transport handicapped people. The step is from Kwikee, and it is a 3 step design. There are no instructions in the box, but I was able to find some information on an instalation kit from the same company for installing on Econolines. I wanted to get a hold of some one there, but the phone number is not any good. Is there anyone here that has installed one of these steps in an Econoline, or has info on how to install it?
  17. The funny thing is that I just got done with a headgasket job on this guy's other truck that was a monster truck equipped with a tuner. If Ford happened to see those headgaskets, they would see that there is no sealing rings left and it would put up a GIANT red flag.
  18. I have a 2005 Excursion with failed head gaskets. The thing has a tuner, big exhaust, aftermarket induction system with a bigger intake elbow and CAC tubes. This truck has one of those 200,000 mile diesel warranties. When my service writer attempted to get prior approval, he mentioned that they have an aftermarket air filter. The responded by telling us to have the customer authorize the cost for teardown. I wonder if they will deny this warranty claim.
  19. It's been almost five months, so I think I can offically declare this vehicle fixed.
  20. I'm not sure, but is older than his 6.4L
  21. It certainly will. I have always had a knack for being the first one to have to fix something new. I'll guarantee that I will be working on the first 6.7 in our shop.
  22. What about the sphincter valve? Does this truck have one of those?
  23. We have a customer that hauls horses and has a 2008 6.4L. He also has a Freightliner. can you guess which one is more fuel efficient????
