  1. How often do headgaskets fail on an Econoline? I think I have heard of one case here, but I have never had one that needed them. One of the guys I work next to has an ambulance that is venting coolant form the de-gas bottle. He has been following the TSB. 14 psi cooling system pressure on hard accel. He took the EGR cooler out this afternoon, leak tested it, and it is OK. He hasn't tested the oil cooler yet, but i don't see how it could cause the pressure to rise fast on accel like it does. It looks like it will need headgaskets. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smhair.gif Any tricks on doing them in an ambulance? Has anyone ever done them without pulling the engine? I can't remember who, but I think I remember someone here raising the body on an ambulance. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/notworthy.gif
  2. I just got off the phone with hotline. They think I have a bad PCV or VCV solinoid. He said that is common with a 6.4 that will stall when warm and re-start after sitting. His suggestion is to get the engine hot, and then check the resistance of the PCV and VCV solinoids. If it is over 10 ohms I have a bad solinoid. He said that the PCM will not store a DTC until the resistance is over 100 ohms. I hope this helps. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
  3. I've got one too, and its -15f here. The truck will stall and then start if you let sit. I'm looking into it.
  4. I agree with everything that has already been said. You still have a dtc for low icp pressure, your problem is for sure in the high pressure oil system. It seems like all 2005 models usally have bad STC fittings. Just for curosity, what is your icp and ipr reading while idling hot and cold. if your ipr is really high to keep your icp normal that is also an indication of a leak. This thing could also have a bad or damaged low pressure oil pump. But I don't think that would be intermitent.
  5. Have you pressure tested the cooling system overnight, with the truck parked outside in the cold? I have been suprised how many coolant leaks show up after sittiting overnight in the cold. Take a really close look at the EGR cooler hose before you start it up. Those things can leak really bad when cold, and then stop leaking completley after they warm up just a little bit.
  6. Merry Christmas guys. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
  7. I replaced 1 a long time ago. I have never done a reflash specifically for sticking injectors on an econoline. Most of the diesel econolines I work on are ambulances that sit inside a warm shop and little busses.
  8. I have to agree with cbriggs. The job of the FICM is to fire injectors. It does that very rapidly when driving the truck down the road. A few more rapid injector pulses shouldn't hurt it. What about sticky injectors damaging the FICM? When the truck is started cold and the FICM is opening theese injectors that are sticking, could that extra electrical load make the FICM work harder? Maybe that is what is killing theese things.
  9. What kind of noise is this anyway? Is it coming from the HP oil pump area? Possibly a HP fitting that is hitting the rear engine cover?
  10. I had one yesterday with the exact same scenario. There is a tsb about this and there are instructions for testing the FICM. You will end up checking FICM M power when the EOT sensor is under a certian temp. If the M power drops below 45 volts and the vpwr is over 11.5 volts then you have a bad FICM. You also need to disconnect the battery lead to the GPCM so it dosen't drop the voltage while doing the test. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/coffee.gif
  11. What about icp pressure/ voltage? Why exactly is it running so poorly? It might be good to have a little more info before you start taking it apart. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/2cents.gif
  12. Why would you (or an apprentice) do a recall that was expired and not on oasis? FWIW, it sounds like the SA made the managment decision and he or she should be responsible for that. Not you of the apprentice. I also don't agree that someone that is just learning should be working agianst the "flat rate clock" . That is how you turn a young tech into a "parts replacer" .
  13. It sucks. the threads break loose. It feels like it is going to come right out. The nut is turning without a problem and then it just stops. The next thing you know your pulling the trans down in order to remove the RH turbo up-pipe. Aggrivated that you spent way too much time trying to sneak the downpipe out without removing the trans. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hitthefan.gif Tony is really going to miss this. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hahaha.gif
  14. Good luck Tony. You will be great at anything you do, because you strive to be the best. This is going to be so exciting working in different places every day, not trying to beat the clock day in and day out. I hope it works out. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
  15. +1, it will also chaffe on the stud for the shock.
  16. Thanks Jim. I told him to have his "buddy" align it or we could install the strut mounted adjuster. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
  17. +1 /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif I think about that quote all the time. Thats how I like to live my life.

  19. I would really only get .5 - 1.0 deegree? This guy has a friend that aligns all of his race cars. I might just let him deal with this. The funny thing is that they were Ford racing springs that I installed.
  20. Thanks but this guy dosen't want to go that route. He is really really really picky and he thinks those look ugly. Thanks anyway Larry. Have a nice Thanksgiving. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
  21. I'm working on a 2009 Mustang. The guy had me install Ford racing springs that lowered the vehicle a little bit. Now his camber is around -2.0 (He had a buddy put it on an align machine). In the workshop manual, it says to adjust camber, remove the lover strut bolt where it is mounted to the steering knuckle and grind the lower bolt holes in the strut and install an eccentric bolt. Does anyone here know the ford part number for this bolt? Thanks in advance.
  22. Keith, We had one just like that. It started out as just a bad EGR valve. Then it would come back every couple days with a EGR valve stuck wide open. It eventually got a EGR cooler and it might have gotten a manifold too. I can't remember. It was a little bus. I usally just scrape out what I can, then blow ot out with compressed air. I usally start it up with the valve out too. It might start a little hard at first, but I have never had a problem.
  23. That sounds like a really good gig. I think most companies would have figured out that they cannot pay this wanker 104k a year and all the benifits to do this particular job that is only worth 30k a year topps. You could probably train someone that just got out of high school to do his job in a few hours. What does that say about his job? Most companies would have figured this out before they went out of buisness or had to beg for money.
