2006 F350 with a 2004 1/2 engine smoking
mchan68 replied to lmorris's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Got one right now in my bay (one of my bays) with the cab raised and engine out on a stand getting a new cam and lifters. Also an out of country warranty. Hmmmmmm. -
Only on the KOEO on-demand screen. The KOEO Injector Buzz screen doesn't give you the option to clear DTCs.

I have 1997 E-350 that came in with a complaint of a Check Engine light on. IDS tested it and retrieved a hard P1272 Cylinder #2 high to low side open DTC. This vehicle definitely feels like it has a dead miss. Cylinder contribution test flags P0266 and P0275 cylinders #2 and #5 contribution low. Here's the kicker. I got as far as pulling the driver side valve cover off. Did an injector buzz test, with weak buzzes from cylinders #2 and #5, but only flags P1272. Swapped UVC harnesses around on the same bank and still the same result. Plugged in a new injector without buzzing again during the self-test. Swapped in a new IDM and still P1272. Checked circuit #556 (white) between C1157 (IDM connector) and C1002 (driver side valve cover front connector) with good ohm readings. Is there any possibility the PCM could be bad? I can't talk to Hotline due to the vehicle age, and OASIS won't give me a nine digit contact ID to get through.

I have ran into situations before, where either the EOT wasn't plugged in properly during a recent repair or an issue with the EOT circuit itself. When this is the case, you will still see EOT readings (but I'm assuming they will be estimated values), but will also get a fan clutch cycling on more frequently during acceleration not to mention the MIL illuminating with a P0198 (I think that's the DTC number off the top of my head)setting as well.

I could swear I've seen that video before.

Jim, I'm at a loss for words after reading this. I just received a phone about three weeks ago by my uncle to inform me that father has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer!!! To add to this, I hadn't been on speaking terms with my parents in over seven years due to a major falling out I had with him. About three Sundays ago, was the first time I saw him since the "dispute". I couldn't believe how yellowed his eyes are, and how emaciated his entire upper body is, almost to the point of appearing like skin and bones. Between bringing him to appointments, and having repeated discussions with my mother, you can imagine the undue stress this has brought to me during the last two weeks. In any event Jim, I'm rooting for you to make it through this and coming out ahead. STAY STRONG!!!

I'm not sure if I like the idea of a chain driven cam on a diesel. I thought most diesels use a gear to gear setup. -
..... with two doors.

Looks like this recall is going to go the way of the 10S13 and 11S16 recall for me. I WON'T DO THEM.

Give it to the apprentice or sublet to the body shop.

new cab and chassis for 2014

Okay, you can add me to the list of techs who doesn't miss these cars. I only remember how much fun they were to drive when they were new (for a Lincoln). Of course when vehicles are new we never foresee what kind of problems they will have. But yeah, I worked on more than my fair share of them, and I sure didn't like it either.

I pull cabs/bodies on vans too.

I've had to SPW a water pump on an FQR long block I did recently, but this was one pissing coolant due to the o-ring seal being cocked during install by the rebuilder.
-
HA HA!! Yup. Do you know where a good used late-build '04 6.0L engine can be obtained easily in Ontario? Apparently a Ford repaint is too much do re mi for the guy. I tried Carcone's, but I'm waiting to get a response back from them.

Okay, I guess I'm not the only one to have decided cab removal was the best approach to this engine R & R. In looking at it before teardown, it almost looked like there could be enough room to pull it with the cab still bolted to the frame. But when you look at all that complex intake plumbing, not to mention the tight areas where the turbos are situated, along with those stupid ass coolant in/out and oil in/out lines, I was very glad I chose to remove the cab on the one I did. Well, this morning I had an F-550 that DROVE in like this. The story goes that the son drove far up north to pick up a heavy piece of equipment with the plow attached on the front of it. The truck then overheated and blew the heater hose to coolant degas junction so he pulled it into an area shop where they did this to it: By the way it DROVE onto our lot, this is what the oil filter housing looked like: By the time I got to it, the truck wouldn't start due to insufficient ICP pressure. Geeze. You think?!!!

Has anyone ever heard of, or thought about attempting this?

If that had've been me, I would've been out the door faster than anything without even touching so much as one fastener on said vehicle that I'm being accused of causing failure to. And after that, I would make sure anyone else wanting to apply for said position to replace me clearly knows exactly what happened.

You mean like this? .... which happens to be a 1972 IHC truck with a big honkin' 549 inch gasser V8, since we're on the subject of old IHC trucks with gassers. I can't imagine how much gas that thing would drink up at today's fuel prices. Although I haven't personally had the pleasure of driving one of these, I've heard that you don't want to ever get yourself into a situation where both transmissions are in neutral while you're moving, correct?

Just looking through the workshop manual procedure for this, also makes me shake my head when I see some illustrations with highlighted parts but no text to accompany it!!! WTF?!!! Does FoMoCo think we don't know how to read?!!!

Jim I'm sure if you really feel the need to voice your input, you could always do so under someone else's log in.

Ooooooohhhhh boy, Jim you don't know what you're missing. Here we go, an unamed tech at an unamed dealer in Saskatoon just posted this juicy tidbit regarding his disapproval for having his posts repeatedly removed: Quote: Instead of pulling my posts off this site maybe someone at FORD mOTOR COMAPANY should have the guts to give me a call.

Somehow, Ecoboost engines are really not growing on me..... VERY FAST.
