  1. Getting a little off topic, it ceaselessly amazes me how many guys don't know that these engines DON'T have a timing chain. Believe it or not Jim, someone not too long ago had asked me how often the "timing belt" should be replaced on these engines .
  2. Spinning the engine over by hand a couple revolutions to ensure all valvetrain parts are moving through their proper range of travel before bolting up the valve covers also helps to avoid having to go back in again.
  3. I vaguely recall common issues specifically with cylinders #5 and #8 being the favourite ones to bend pushtubes upon initial engine startup after a major disassembly (such as heads off) and reassembly, due to not setting the dowel on the crankshaft to the six o'clock position when re-assembling the engine. This of course is referencing 6.0L engines. I know the 6.4L uses a very similar valvetrain layout to the 6.0L. The only intuitive reason I can come up with for setting it up this way is that no pistons are at TDC when the crank is set to that orientation. Hope this helps. Look on the bright side. At least on a 6.4L, you don't need to disturb the cylinder head gasket seal to disassemble the valvetrain like you do on a 6.0L.
  4. C'mon folks, remember what one of the final practical exercises was on the final exam for a P0234?
  5. Three 6.0s. Two E-Series, one getting a set of coolers. The other an STC and dummy rail plugs as well as an F-Series getting an STC and dummy rail plugs. CHA-CHING!!!!!
  6. So what's the total hooping? I could use a good laugh these days.
  7. Well, you know what they say about the truth don't you? Kind of hurts doesn't it? So what exactly do the goons from FMC expect your circus manager to do, yank your ass into his office to give your little pee pee a big WHACK?
  8. Some of us already do. Those of us who've taken the initiative to buy our own IDSs and then have to pay THEM for the yearly subscription to fix THEIR shit for THEIR shitty tmes.
  9. Plain and simple. If they ain't gonna PAY, I ain't gonna PLAY!! The vehicle sits outside to grow plants under while the owner takes it up with FoMoCo directly. BTW Alex, that was a funny post of yours on the Freestar Recall thread on the message board. Noticed how quickly our posts were deleted?

    Glow plug harness?

  11. What are your FICM voltage readings on datalogger showing?
  12. Only one way to find out, is to pull the HPOP cover off before installing the engine.
  13. Isn't that how a newly hired service manager's job usually begins? The position did become vacant for a reason you know.
  14. Guelph or Kitchener are two cities that come to mind.
  15. Which was what I had in mind anyway, that's why I offered. I'll bring my 8 and 10mm stubby ratchet wrenches and IDS with me if you want to test it out. My truck is the easy peazy late 2006 style engine with only the four spaceship type nuts securing the FICM so swapping it out will be a quick and easy affair.
  16. Where abouts are you these days Aaron? I don't mind using my own truck as a "guinea pig" if needed.
  17. It's a Samsung using Windows 7 and 64 bit operating system. I managed to get it to work finally. Now I'm having problems getting it to work wirelessly. Baby steps.
  18. I just got my VCM II today and can't for the life of me, get my laptop with IDS up and running, to recgonize a connection when I plug into the USB port. I have tried rebooting it three times with the cable connected and it still won't initialize.
  19. ...... and that perfectly describes the ever so popular Black Onyx head gaskets that have been showing a higher propensity for repeat failure more and more. Why they are failing is still speculation as this point.
  20. I've already driven SEVERAL Mustangs of varying model years and engine/tranny combos to the point where it doesn't excite me anymore. And that's a sad thing because, once upon a time I used to love cars. In fact, the Mustang GT was my ultimate favourite ride that got me so hot and horny to work at a Ford dealer in the first place. Now, even a Ford GT doesn't overly thrill me anymore. I just actually had a 2012 Mustang GT that I long blocked about a month ago for a spun #2 rod bearing, that I got to drive home three nights in a row. The young kids at work were jealous that I got to drive this car home, which I quickly replied, "It's just another car. Whippee shit".
  21. So did you actually order the part number above? If so, did it actually include a set of four lifters along with the plastic guide? The reason I ask is because it would be nice to know for future reference. Fortunately, I have yet to have the pleasure/displeasure of doing one of these.
  22. No opinion on the main bearings here, but I am going to ask if you are replacing ALL the lifters or only one? I should hope the answer would be ALL if you are replacing the cam. By the way, speaking of lifters you might want to have your parts department look into this. According to Microcat, you buy a set of four lifters including the plastic guide (part number 8C3Z-6C329-B) for less than the price of one lifter. Not to be confused with part number 8C3Z-6C329-A, which is just the plastic guide without the lifters. And, are they worn like this?
  23. All of the above are well looked after, if/when needed. Not to worry. I am toying with the idea of sending my FICM out to www.ficmrepair.com though.
