  1. Okay. About two weeks ago, my service manager had me driving an '08 Edge home every night, including the entire weekend in the attempt to reproduce a "slight harness" at highway speeds. I ended up putting on about 453 kms. on this car not able to reproduce the customer complaint. The story goes, "it happened three times on the drive from Michigan back to Toronto". She hasn't been back so far. Okay, now I have an '09 MKX (same vehicle) that I've been driving home every night since Tuesday night, up to and including this weekend with a similar complaint. Apparently this vehicle has been in three times prior, attempting to address this complaint. So far, the servicing tech has reflashed the PCM to the latest and greatest level. S.S.M. # 21227 has been done in an unsuccessful attempt to resolve to the customer's satisfaction. Has anyone else ever received similar complaints on these vehicles? I've been driving this thing home with the IDS hooked up and datalogger with a grocery list of PIDs, ready and waiting for the unsual to happen, and my trigger finger ready to hit that RECORD button to no avail so far.
  2. Sorry Aaron, SHIT is spelled S-H-I-T, for those that give one.
  3. I have my share of customers bringing their trucks to me that swear up and down about the cost for the repairs. But yet, these same customers keep coming back for more. Go figure. I wonder why?
  4. If this vehicle had've shown up on MY doorstep, I would've approached the quote with, "Well first I need to START with ......" before going any further. Funny Alex. The way you describe this vehicle almost perfectly mirrors the two vehicles in my post above.
  5. Well, here's my list: My Parts manager asks me to talk to one of their "good" customers. The end result of this, is their "good" customer ends up towing a high mileage '04 E-350 box van (679,000 kms.) onto my doorstep. This thing is SOOOOO dead, you can barely see the lights flicker when you key on. So, I sell two new BXT-65-850 batteries (with labour to install of course, and don't you just LOVE replacing batteries on E-Series?) just to BEGIN the diagnostic process. Very quickly, I determine insufficient ICP pressure to start engine. Open the hood, and the air inlet just REEEKS of ether!!! About less than a half hour later, I determine the IPR not fucntioning. Slam dunk a new IPR and life is good....... for about two months. Apparently this truck sat for two weeks before being towed to me. Same vehicle shows up on the doorstep of "good" customer with a misfire and a turbo not functioning. After I brought IDS with me and some testing at "good" customer's shop, I quickly instruct him to test and replace #8 injector and remove the turbo and EGR for further inspection. A new unison ring and EGR valve later, and the truck is running like "brand new" as the owner of the shop puts it. Same shop now gets an '05 E-Series towed into them as a no-start with P2290 and P2291. I bring IDS over along with the air line fitting to air test. Very quickly, I instruct his guys to remove the HPOP from the vehicle. Sure enough, this HPOP is GRENADED!!! Supposedly, this truck had just been "repaired" by Dixie Ford in Mississauga the day prior, to fix this issue. And they paid $1700 for the "repair". With 469,000 kms. on this truck, it didn't even have the updated one-piece branch tube connector in it!!! Well, at least these guys are giving me some $$$$ for my time, I will say THAT much.
  6. Thanks guys. It appears the customer is DRIVING to Ohio on a road trip himself to pick up the part.
  7. I've already forwarded the information from Keith's reply on to the advisor. It's now up to the customer as to how important it is, to have a functioning driver's window in order to get the part in to replace.
  8. That's my point. Where we're at with this truck, is it's loosing/drinking coolant. It has something wonky with cylinder #1. Tune-down department diag'd a POSSIBLE intake gasket leakage into cylinder #1 (since the coolant passage at the front of the intake happens to be adjacent to the intake port to cylinder #1). After completing my retail 6.0L harness replacement, I rolled it into my bay to rip the intake off, and the gasket appears to be okay. NOW, is when I'm wondering if anyone else has ever had an issue like this before with one of these. This is a 5.4L 2-valver by the way. Also the first year for the 2nd generation body style Expedition.
  9. I got this one passed down to me from our tune-down department. Apparently this vehicle has had an ongoing issue with cylinder #1 eating spark plugs. Also has an ongoing issue with coolant loss and overheating. Vehicle has had two spark plugs and one COP replaced. No external coolant leaks. Vehicle definitely runs with a slight miss to it. T-stat appears okay. Overheating appears to be due to level getting low enough to require top ups. Pulled intake on it. Nothing appears to be wrong with the intake gasket. I remember replacing a lot of 4.6/5.4L heads/gaskets back in the day for external oil leaks, but never heard of any issues with cylinder heads cracking. There is a lot of coolant staining on the degas bottle (like a 6.0L with stretched bolts). Vehicle is a 2003 Expedition 5.4L with 139,000 kms. on it.
  10. I just did the web based course on that tranny a couple weeks ago. It seems like we're going in the same direction as Honda and Saturn. Really neat how it uses two input shafts with each, servicing a set of three ratios.
  11. Can someone please check the availability of part number F8VZ-15K602-BA please? On our end, NO STOCK U.S.A. is indicated. Thanks in advance.
  12. Because we make less money off of someone else's stupidity if that's all we do.
  13. Manual transmissions are available on 6.2L trucks in Mexico too. A 5 speed too, at that.
  14. I have no problem doing this when the repair is warranty, as long as I have a paper trail from Ford Hotline backing me up, so that Ford can't shove that one up my ass. Remember the 6.4L that Ford tried to shove up my ass? I'm still aching over that one!!!!!
  15. I had a 2010 E-Series that the two 8mm bolts on the branch tube connector had backed out, causing a hot no-start if it helps.
  16. Is that BASE oil pressure or ICP pressure?
  17. ..... and F-150s with a complete new engine lineup, namely the 3.7L V6, the 5.0L Coyote V8 and an Ecoboost V6.
  18. Furthermore, I'm still not to clear on how the most current calibration works for '03/'04 model year trucks, since not much mention is made of them, it seems.
  19. I've seen two trucks that have come in with this particular DTC set in CM. On both trucks, EBP, MAP and BARO were well within specs. Of course, "around the block" road testing of these units failed to reveal anything that was not right, given that both of these particular trucks came from owners who complained only of loosing power while driving on the highway pulling a trailer under heavy load. Unfortunately, I have no means of being able to road test these vehicles under similar conditions to be able to attempt to re-create the concern. But judging from the number of posts I've been reading lately about this very complaint is leaving me wondering if the most current calibration may just be a tad bit too sensitive. Just my
  20. Oh I think I pretty much figured THAT out when I first saw the poster. My question is, what in the hell is that intended to achieve? Is he looking for sympathy? It's not like he's alone or anything. I mean, it's not like his OASIS Report looks like anything I'm not used to seeing on most 6.0L trucks that have darkened my doorstep yet. I would hate to imagaine THIS guy being the owner of a 6.4L, that went through three engines!!!
  21. You guys would laugh, if you saw the CuDL Report details. I'm not sure if I should post it.
  22. Supposedly, this customer complains of the heater fan stops working intermittently under random conditions. On the two prior visits with the same complaint, neither myself or the other technician was able to recreate the symptom. My service manager even asked me to drive the vehicle home for a night for this. Vehicle is a 2009 E-250 with a 4.6L if it matters. No SSMs or TSBs in OASIS for this. Anyone else run into somthing like this?
  23. To even THINK of attempting this would be akin to attempting to run a gas engine with the spark plug wires arranged in the wrong order wouldn't it?
