  1. guys haven't you learned if you do not lock it up in your tool box expect it to come up missing??? I have the same collection of caps and Ive got a drawer in my roll cart for them. I cant you how many times I found other techs picking through my bench looking for who knows what and until I started locking up what I wanted to keep it would always come up missing. I even locked up some shop supplies. A simple can of wd-40 if left on the bench would disappear.
  2. We dropped another one last week, this one has about 60k miles on it.... still no answer on the cause....so far about 50-60% of our 2011 6.7 550s have lost a turbo
  3. I agree 100% here. We all fuck it up sooner or later as its just human nature. I would always go to the boss and say I fucked up and what do we want to do to make it right. Typically I would eat the labor involved and they would cover the parts. however on the flip side I had to rebuild a 6.0 engine for a failure that was not caused by my workmanship.(which I proved) I did not get paid a dime for that repair and was also not allowed to work on anything else until it was finished which even included the wait for parts. I may have not had to eat the parts involved but I bet it was cheaper then the wages I lost by getting fucked on not being allowed to pull any other jobs while I waited on parts. I just about packed my shit and left over that one.
  4. I have been in this situation too and been a victim of standing up for myself and refusing to use equipment etc. you dont always have another option, you cant always quit, if you open your mouth your on everyones shit list and your hours suffer to the point of not having a job is better etc It really isnt as easy as refusing to use a lift and calling osha to report it. Some of the places I have worked your better off looking for a new job if that is the route you plan to take. Yes legally the employer cant shit can you over something like this but they sure can make your life hell when they find out. I dont know about some of you but I dont have the money or time for lawyers, even so think about this....You refuse to use your hoist, your boss does not think its unsafe and tells your to keep using it but you hold your ground. You then get shit canned for not following the instructions of your boss then proceed to file suit for wrongful termination. Ignore all the time and money you will have to invest to find the right lawyer all while your trying to find a new job and build up the relationships within the dealer to make your flat rate pay again. Say you actually win your case what now? You get back pay for lost wages? (which are probably needed to pay the lawyer) or get your job back? which you damn well know if you where not blacked listed before you sure as hell are now. Besides all that what happens when the word gets to all the other dealers in the area that your doing this? You have now fucked yourself on getting a job and making money at another dealer in your area. I guess my point is I know where you guys are coming from in refusing to work on unsafe equipment however I also know the feeling of not being able to actually follow through with the actions of that decision. It isn't nearly as easy as it sounds.....
  5. I just got one of these letter in the mail...tossed it in the shredder right away. I disregard all class action law suits as 99.9% of time its all horse shit
  6. This was a very common sight in my bay unless I was lucky enough to get one that had not been apart before. Whats worse if you would get one that had been hacked on by one of their own ambo techs then it got real ugly.... Seeing under the hood of some of these ambos makes me fear ever getting a ride in one. I could be missing a arm or leg and be laying there worrying about the hacked together 6.0 running me to the hospital....
  7. this video is making it around the internet faster then some hooker disease kudos to this dude for destroying a perfectly good truck, It makes mine more valuable in the end
  8. dd we really need the walk up from the shop to the truck in the vid?
  9. Its a oil and filter change, Fuel filter replacement(engine dependent), the typical inspection and lube all the grease points
  10. The medium dutys have always been 1.5hr labor when I did them at the dealer and now I write POs for the same time labor times with our customer pay.
  11. If our EPA doesn't cripple it into sucking ass will be the determining factor if its worth a damn or not....
  12. I too have heard this line one too many times. At first I would say no problem and do the repair asked of me, after all they are your boss.....once I was finished and got to tell them "I told you so" I proceeded to get it rammed up my ass sideways. As per usual I ended up going negative on the job repairing the vehicle how I said it needed to be done in the first place. My intent was to get the vehicle repaired the correct way and move on to the next one, instead we would waste countless hours dicking around with either customer or service manager arm chair diag.
  13. If its a early build 2004 I have had the ball fall out of the side of the hpop and cause a similar concern. random hard starts, low base oil at idle, but runs great otherwise, etc.
  14. sooooo I still have turbos taking a shit on our F550s. We just lost another one on a one with less then 15k miles. I personally drove this truck from Iowa(where the truck was completed) to AZ. I did my thing which includes checking for updated calibrations and updated if needed before going into to service. We then sent it to Elko NV where it has been working until yesterday. I have another one in Las Vegas that just died last month. Its now on its 3rd. This one is in the 60k range and seems to loose a turbo every 20k miles or so. So whats the real deal? I have a feeling this "program" is nothing more then fluff....
  15. not a airplane puller truck but along the same lines...This is another truck that never sees the road, actually I dont think it even had plates on it.
  16. Valid points Keith however I disagree with being subject to vehicle "certified use" Just as Aaron pointed out ford does offer the race ready cobra jet. I have even seen the shebly gt500s have a special title and vin that made it except from registration for road use. It was a track only. If we stand by the certified vehicle use then what about NHRA? NASCAR? BITD?,SCORE etc etc etc. We would never have any type of motorsport worth a damn if they all had to follow the EPA rules or only using a certified manufactured race car. Mining also comes to mind. I remember a particular 6.4 from a mining outfit in NM that had a broom handled rammed up the DPF. Long story short after talking with several people at the mine I found out they purposely hog out the DPF because they plug up in a day and can never perform a regen cycle. What they didnt realize is the amount of fuel that accumulated from the vehicle attempting to perform regens which ended up killing the engines. In this case it would have been logical for them to do a DPF delete with a calibration to stop the regen cycles thus allowing them to use the vehicle as they wish in the mine. Point is I believe their are exceptions to every rule not necessary a "work around" just because the average joe blow thinks he is better then anyone else
  17. I keep warning customers this was coming down the pipeline sooner or later. Too many tards out there smoking like a freight train thinking it was cool for EPA not to notice. I do believe this really needs to fall on the end user of the "offroad only products" and not the company building the product. If the product is properly marked not emissions compliant and offroad racing use only then why should they be stopped from selling such a device? I can see alot of uses for DPF delete such as vehicles used by the military, emergency vehicles, airports, farming use, etc. Not too mention racing applications. Instead of forcing the company from designing the product go after the idiots using it incorrectly on the road.
  18. But thats how you do it in mexico!(sorry thats a southwest reference ) I keep chasing down guys down that are doing it. They think they are out smarting the GPS system that monitors seat belts to avoid wearing it. What pisses me off is they will be the first one to be standing in line for a handout when they get hurt after crashing the truck with no belt on.
  19. I found this a few months ago and speced all our new order trucks to come with it Its a nice feature if I can get our guys to use it....
  20. Agree with everything said here and have been involved in too many discussions just like this. I have some fellow employees that drive fords here and the most recent one was a 2005ish 5.4 F150. He never changed the oil and when he did it was some jiffy lube special bs. We guess what happened at 80k miles? camshafts and phasers took a shit. Of course he is blaming Ford for a shitty product and cant understand why they wont warranty it so now he wants a GM product....Well guess what that GM will do in 80k with the same maintenance schedule...... you cant fix stupid.... Bruce is on the money and all we can do is strive to service our customers to the best of our ability each and every time.
  21. I love that one. I will typically ask why he wants the glow plugs changed. You do need to tread lightly when asking as to not look like a total dick to the customer. I will ask if they have been having any other issues with the truck that they might want us to look at while we are in there. 95% of the time the response is "yeah its been hard starting or no start when cold which is why I want to replace glow plugs" From there I can convince them of a proper diagnosis as to not waste their money throwing parts at it The internet is a very powerful tool but I really hate these customers that read a couple forums and now they think they are pros
  22. Hope you guys got a better gift then I did.... After coming down from my anger fit The rest of my Christmas was great
  23. imagine that we are still here? now what? The crazy is out in force however. Seen people on the corners with signs "the end is near" yesterday evening. People even had "end of the world" parties around here. lets just say I am more heavily armed today
  24. I have seen the kit your talking about and it was classified severe duty service if I recall correctly. I find that hard to believe as the filtration is actually worse on those conventional flat paper filters then the Donaldson filters we have come to love in the 6.0. just look at the 7.3 kit that upgrades to the Donaldson filter to improve filtration. Yeah its a 60dollar filter but you will make up with that in a clean engine
