  1. Not so much for overheating, more for A/C performance, and destroyed A/C compressors. P.S. these NEVER set a DTC but they would blow the high pressure pop off on the high side line on the manifold near the compressor. The ambulance crews seldom notice anything is amiss until the A/C blows warm or the smoke comes out of the compressor clutch because it was on high idle when the fan clutch failed to engage and locked up the compressor up. All of my fleet are Econolines so air flow is already marginal.
  2. Looks kind of like a push rod I saw from a 2.9L Ranger. Hows that??? Anywhere close?
  3. I have seen this too in a few of the ambulances in the fleet I service. The first one was hard to find because it was also running fine most of the time. Good find
  4. You can get the FICM and injector connector shells in the Alliant catalog too. I just ordered the three FICM shells because the locking tabs were broken on something I had apart. I think they were around $20.00 each. Alliant also had both halves of the injector connectors but I don't remember the price. Some of the units I see have 350K miles and 35-40K hours so the connectors are all baked and crumble when they are touched
  5. I had one a long time ago like that and it was the shaft seal on the HPOP, it also was a fresh re-manufactured oil pump. I found it by removing the HPOP and filling the inlet to the HPOP with oil and leaving it for a while, soon there was a trail of oil from the shaft that the drive gear bolts to. I replaced the pomp again and no more issues.
  6. Would you believe I have never encountered a stuck VGT on the fleet of ambulances that are serviced here? (We run these units to 350K). I have seen a lot of worn unison ring with a key hole instead of the slot. We also have EGR valves going for more than 100K. Most owners would say we over maintenance but break downs are not acceptable. Too much paper work!! We have a very aggressive P.M. program. Predictable time out of service and contained cost without a lot of surprises. Most owners and many business customers fail understand to power of Preventative Maintenance.
  7. I have an engine to install tommorrow after a 6.0L P.M. 150K miles both coolers, head gaskets, injectors and clean to turbo. I'll test fit the sensor. It will be good to know if it will fit.
  8. Is it possible to install the sensor tool in a van??
  9. Does the radio also delay? If so check fuse F2.15 if blown the radio and windows will not work in accessory at all and will not work in run until the gauges come up because the accessory delay relay is controlled. I just had the same type of issue with a 2004 E450. I ended up overlaying the harness from the fuse panel to the cluster because we do not use the trailer battery charge relay or the DTRL on this unit and I have not had any more problems with this one.
  10. Jim, the take out is going to be beetween the brake master cylinder and the air cleaner taped to the large convoluted harness very close to the air cleaner mounting bolt. The wires will be labeled CTO, 4X4, VSO, TPO.
  11. There is a takeout in the harness and the wires are terminated with heat shrink, there is a 4x4 input and there are Clean tach and vss outputs also there maybe a chaffed harness or water intrusion at the PCM connector allowing voltage into this circuit. Is the code in set because it is seeing a low range 4X4 input and too high VSS? I will try to look into the wiring diagrams to verify my theory. When they convert one of these to 4X4 ie Quigley this is used to modify shift timing and limit engine rpm low range. Good luck Jim, I know you will figure it out. Is there a PID for 4X4?
  12. I service a fleet of ambulances and use only Aliant injectors because I have had many issues in the past with remans from many vendors. I don't have time to do something twice and I can't beat the price for the Aliant injectors. I have a 100% satisfaction rating with the Aliants. I have had remans where the oil side is so worn they won't fire at idle but are perfect at WOT. My vote is Aliant for sure.
  13. So is there as much truth in that letter as in the general media reporting. The only way to get the truth is to be there!
  14. And that is the real story, those brave men and women that have chosen to serve and protect my freedom have my deepest thanks. I was signed up in the seabees on graduation from high school, but a car accident changed everything. Seabees (still with the diesel smoke)
  15. Don't look under the hood it all comes out the back, it is not the worst thing to have to do. I R&I the turbo and Y Pipe, loosen and lift the intake enough to slide the cooler out the back, maybe a bit over simplified but it will work. Don't loose heart it can be done.
  16. I read a memo from the trailer mfg. The IBC is not compatable with the electric over hydraulic trailer systems used on the large travel trailers with disc brake on them. The memo also states the owner should contact their Ford dealer for installation of a compatable hang on controller and bypass the IBC, I have not seen anything from FMC regarding this issue. Also note General Motors vehicles have the very same issues with their 2008 Trucks with the IBC. I found this out at a campground with some friends, their truck would not apply the trailer brakes, made for an interesting ride. We swapped trailers for the trip home and both worked flawlessly. Bottom line is the IBC is not compatable with the microprocessor controlled trailer systems.
  17. They had two diesels in the Ranger, Bronco II body style 2.2L in the 4X2 and a 2.3L turbo in the 4X4 Short lived, not very popular, but I liked them, but I have been told my brain has been damaged by diesel smoke
  18. I only use Alliant New injectors, been burnt too many times with reman ford injectors. I have had good results reading the glow plugs, wash the pocket with brake cleaner and blowout the residue, when you get the glow plug out the offending injector will leave a tan residue from the engine oil. It has not failed me yet.
  19. What type of ambulance? I have also have done engine work on E van and thought about lifting the body, it did not look like a winning idea, no easy way out with all the additional stuff. No body lift here.
  20. I changed dealers two years ago and am servicing a fleet of ambulances on E350 and E450s, some have 325,000 miles and over 30,000 hours of run time and the 7.3L will out run the sic-o every time, the crews like the 7.3 units better than the new ones with sic-os. I am not seeing severe issues with the 6.0 inspite of the extended idle times but I am using fuel perfomance additive single use bottles that the crew can add when they refuel. It seems to be working.
