Keep the sticker as a souvenir. Not much else to suggest. pretty straight forward. 245 ft/lbs.

We only have three Colet's for the pins, so we can only do three cylinders at a time. We also have to get our pins through the parts department. Can you believe these pins retail for $25.00 each. Thank God I only needed two for my truck at my cost of $15.00 each. And I may not have communicated in my first post properly that I do think the TSB removal procedure works fairly well although it is time intensive. I do see what you're saying about allowing more than one cylinder to cure at a time though. That will cut down on the time involved. I guess if you had three or four porcelain's broken off, you could charge One hour for the first hole and 0.5 for every other hole. But the More I think about it, I a lad could probably break even at 0.5 a hole. But if you only had one porcelain broken off, I would say to charge the 1.5 above the tuneup labour. But then again, straight time may just simplify these repairs. But the term "Straight Time" could also scare a customer. I guess it also depends on how well the front counter staff can eplain the complexity of this repair to a customer. Did you get the answer to your original question Keith? Or are you still scratching your head?
-
With repairs like this one, gain time is not what I'm personally after even though there are some techs that may be after gain time. It is just breaking even that matters the most to me.
-
No other opinions on this? Did I say something wrong, or is everyone thinking about it? We tossed the idea around at work and came up with a couple of different theories. One was worried that that eventually customers would be taken advantage of. But my thoughts on that are that if your management is good enough and reviews your times, they would make sure no one is screwing the customer. The other idea was straight time.

06 f-350 red diesel fuel
DwayneGorniak replied to robp823's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Red dyed fuel (up here in Canada anyway) is like Keith said, non taxed fuel and is used up here for "FARM" use. Therefore we call it FARM FUEL. The dye is strictly to identify the fuel for many reasons and for organization's such as Department of Transport Officers so that they can keep track of where the fuel is being used. Up here, the DOT officers used to look for vehicles that didn't have farm license plates that were running Farm fuel and you were not a farmer running it and caught with it in your vehicle, you would pay a hefty fine. Gasoline also used to be dyed up here for Farm Fuel identification as well. Farmers used to try and sell it to locals at a cheaper value than what the fuel stations sold fuel for. That was in Saskatchewan anyway. These days it is at the ULTRA LOW LEVEL up here in Canada anyway and we don't really see any boot legged fuel much anymore. -
All right, I'll weigh in on this topic as I just did a tuneup on my own 04' F-150 with these God Forsaken shitty designed plugs a couple of days ago. First of all: If just the ground electrode shield is broken off in the head, I believe that charging 0.5 per hole is fair on top of the tuneup or spark plug labour in the labour guides. Second: if the porcelain is broken off as well, 0.5 is no where near enough freakin time. This shouldn't be a hard argument if everyone's Management can actually read. The TSB states that the the Loctite 638 product must be allowed a "MINIMUM" of one hour to cure. And if you have more than one hole with porcelain broken off in them this can consume a tonne of time. And for anyone who argues this point, if you read the TSB and do it correctly, there is a crucial amount of time spent cleaning the porcelain properly with brake clean, compressed air and scrubbing the porcelain of contamination so that the Loctite product will adhere to the porcelain. My truck had two broken off with the porcelain left in the Ground electrode shield and I was successful in removing them. Therefore this repair for this tsb should be charged for in different stages as the TSB has different stages of repairs. I recommend charging 1.5 hours for the holes that have porcelain left behind and I recommend charging 0.5 for the holes that have just the Ground electrode shield left behind. And those times would be on top of what the labour guide charges for the tuneup or spark plug replacement. I think I am going to post this on the Protech site as well seeing as there is some discussion going on about it over there. And if we all charge the same industry wide within the dealerships, there will be no undercutting. And I feel that I have done a fairly accurate review based on the research of doing this repair myself.

Discolored oil rails, 6.0
DwayneGorniak replied to STROKER_T's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Yup, Headgaskets! I see condensation buildup like that in an engine alot when the heads are liftin off the block. I suggest checking your cooling system pressures as per the headgasket TSB. -
That poooorrrr carrrr! No car deserves an IDOT like that. Is this guy for reeal?
-
I put the dye in the secondary filter as well. And with the rush of fuel pressure you get, it mixes extremely well.

MIL caused by a-market air fiters? SSM? Can't find it. 6.4L
DwayneGorniak replied to Aaron's topic in FSA - TSB - SSM
Aaron, I don't there ever was a TSB or SSM for this. I think what you are thinking of, may be what tech hotline has told us many times and what a few of us have talked about on this site. And that is the fact that after market high flow air filters will allow to much air flow through the engine and will crack DPF's which will usually turn on the MIL. When i was at Fourlane, I replaced at least half a dozen if not closer to a dozen cracked DPF's on trucks that were equipped with high flow air filters or engine dusters if you want to call them that. -
Headgaskets on an Econoline?
DwayneGorniak replied to Mekanik's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Welcome aboard the DTS Mark. At least I taught ya and you've learned the rule of RTFC (read the fuckin computer). Now that you've got your own laptop at work, I'm sure you will find a tonne of information on this site. Hope you enjoy it. For those of you that don't know, Mark was my young diesel apprentice Gynaecologist/proctologist while I was at Fourlane and used to always check this site out by looking over my shoulder while I was checkin out the posts. He is now a full fledged Journeyman hemorrhoid surgeon. Take care Mark and hope to see on here quite a bit. Mark, here are a couple of links to posts that you may want to reply to: http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=5#Post5 http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=9867#Post9867 -

Not sure what you mean. But I can tell you that if you tip your beer cup while filling it, the beer will foam less and you will get more beer in the cup. MMMMMmmmmmm Beeerrrrr. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif

Maybe I can elaborate on this. About two years ago, Ford had a program that they were promoting for technicians called "Project Access". This Program was created to promote dealerships to allow their technicians to have their own unlimited source of information at their fingertips in their own bays at their toolboxes etc such as OASIS, training, service manuals and publications, etc. The idea was that technicians would spend less time looking for manuals and running around the shop for resources and be more efficient by never having to leave their own bays. The program was really a great idea. Unfortunately, Ford doesn't have the program anymore because they most likely felt that everyone had already jumped at the oportunity to get with the times. The other unfortunate thing is that I never kept a copy of the original anouncement letter about the program. I used to have it in my toolbox. I wonder if anyone else on this site may have a copy that they could post on this thread. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif The other unfortunate thing Greg, is that your IT geak has either never heard of it or is just too plain ignorant to let you know about it.

Man, you really work for a tight wad.

Tell your IT guy he is a Douche Bag and to go cleanse himself because he really full of crap. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/icon_crazy.gif I have had this arguement with Ford and I-Connect before and they said it was basically because they didn't want any non I-connect computers on their I-connect system whatsoever. So here is how you can get around your IT guy. I-connect offered instructions on how to isolate your personal computers from their system. You just have to have a second Internet address and an ethernet switch (Isolation Router) and a wireless router. When you're on that second wireless system, you have absolutely didly squat to do with I-connect. In fact, here is the link to I-Connects Policy about it: https://www.inford.dealerconnection.com/iconnect/ViewPDF.asp?NewsID=154 This information is all found on the Inford homepage. So print it off and tell your IT guy to shove it up his ars! And if you want information on how to hook it all up, I'll gladly post it. Ohh yeah. I hope I was of some help.

HPOP Oil Change
DwayneGorniak replied to Keith Browning's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Ohhhhh, Mannnn. Not that video retard again! And no I'm not making fun of Handicapped people. Handicapped people are just simply handicapped. But this guy is just plain friggin retarded. Maybe some of you folks who have been around for a while may recall. But I slightly remember in 94' and a half when the Powerstroke first came out that Ford recommended changing the oil on High Pressure reservoir. And then about six months or so later they said not to worry about it and just change the crankcase oil. Or am I just drinking too much lately? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif -

Canadian seniors/masters program discontinued?

Same with me Bruno. WTF? -
Frank, why don't you just print off this whole thread and show your boss what a cheap prick he really is? I have never worked anywhere that charged me over ten percent above cost. How does he expect to keep techs or any good employee if he isn't going to give you proper bennefits. I hope you don't work any overtime or go out of your way to try do extra things for that place because they're sure not going out of their way for their employees. Like the ole saying goes: What goes around, comes around.

You just reminded me of the back door customers that come walking into the shop. This is something I used to love saying at Fourlane when a customer walked into the shop and asked me if I was a Mechanic: No, but I stayed at a Holliday Inn Express last nite. Ahhh, the looks on their faces when you use that line. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hahaha.gif Or I would would say no and point at a poor apprentice and say I'm just the janitor, you need to go talk to that guy over there.

SHiii!!!t Bill, you're still a freshman with only 12 posts. You gotta lotta typin to do to catch up. How's things? And we should be able to read it in Engrish up here by now on Protech. It just takes so darn long to go through all that French conversion crap. Why does the rest of the country have to wait for those slow pokes to understand crap before we're allowed to read it?
-
I noticed that too. You actually have to type in the web address to get there. For some reason, if you copy a shortcut or put it in favourites, it just takes you to inford.com. You will still have to log in like inford though. Never mind. I think the site is for Canada and you have to have a Canadian ID. Or am I wrong? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif I was flat rate reading again. I think I better start drinking.
