  1. The headers on my hotrod are wrapped, were wrapped by the previous owner. I don't forsee me ever wrapping them again if there's an issue that requires me removing it. I will likely get them Jet Hot coated. Underhood heat is a non-issue in my car anyhow.
  2. The problem of germs is eliminated when a higher proof alcohol is used, like Jack Daniels. In other news, I made up some "Apple Pie Moonshine" about three weeks ago, and man oh man does that shit ever creep up on you. Base is 191 proof grain alcohol. After it's made, you can't even taste the booze.
  3. You can smoke in anything you want, as long as it's not a work truck or has a company name on the side, regardless if you're the only operator/owner of the company. Saw a cop talking on his cell phone today while driving, however.
  4. One I've got is Snap-On A137, it's actually a shock socket but it works for these too. http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item.asp?search=true&item_ID=636005&PartNo=A137&group_id=675666&supersede=&store=snapon-store&tool=all
  5. Here's me in the blue car (406 SBC, pump gas) and a dude I went to trade school with (71 Chevelle, 572" big block Chevy) at the drag strip on Labor Day test and tune. Best pass I put down was 11.64 @ 116. Air wasn't right, and the carb needs some adjustment. Fun for a street car though.
  6. Look! They have all the big names! Sorny and Magnetbox! I know a genuine Panaphonics when I see one.
  7. Made some guy in a real new Ferrari real upset with my 81 Malibu. He's got sandy underpants syndrome now. So mad. Lol. And I didn't even have a sticky tire on it.
  8. A good read up here anyways is the CVSA out of service criteria. I think you can read it online but I can't seem to locate it at the moment.
  9. I meant getting the part to you lol. After reading what I wrote it comes across differently.
  10. They are located close to me and if they have it id be more than willing to help you get it there.
  11. Kingpins support the axle and lift up and down on the wheel with a pry bar, shake wheel at top and bottom. Like checking ball joints. Slack adjusters are of two types, self adjusting or automatic, or manual. There are also long stroke and short stroke chambers, easily identified by their air port shape. I will post more specific stuff later. Having a hard time staying awake at the moment.
  12. http://bit.ly/17WzJqB Nothing negatives is meant by this but I just find this site hilarious whenever google is brought up.
  13. Do you know how to adjust and measure air brakes?
  14. I should know better than to read one of your posts when the wife is trying to sleep nearby.
  15. I have seen a truck that someone forgot to re attach the ground when they changed trans cooler lines, was at my shop for intermittent no start. It was starting off the ground strap, which had burned through the heater box when it was glowing red and eventually melted off.
  16. Anyone ever notice that bolts don't seem to fill the holes quite as much as the rivets did? What I usually did whenever I had to chop out the radius arms on twin I beam trucks is to drill up to a bolt where the shoulder fit nice and was long enough I could waste most of the threads (a la aircraft fastening practice). No, I don't think I ever saw a problem with the "usual" way with GR8s, but I can be an anal old Ralph.I see what you did there.
  17. It was a Barney job, and no core - customer opted for "NEW". Like $2000 more than reman. They probably don't want us taking them apart so they can do failure analysis. Does anyone else remember when they'd want the super duty brake caliper, bracket, and pads all as one assembly when they'd seize up? This is probably the same idea.
  18. Brad had a really good picture of protrusion to identify a bent rod before removal of the rod/piston assembly. I think it's on his photo post on this site. Look under Brad Clayton
  19. I am on the second wheel in mine and the surface is peeling off this one too.
