I have done tonnes of bed plate reseals and never replaced a bearing, never had an issue. If you are using the same crankshaft I dont see the need. Aren't all engine bearings a "crush fit"?

I had one of these to do last week, but when we phoned the fleet managment company to get approval(retail, 150k on it), they would not approve the bill, and told us to sell the driver several jugs of coolant and he will just have to top it off as required.

If this is a high mileage truck, say around 200k (120,000 miles)or higher, and that much water has gone thru it, you may be replacing all the injectors, either before it leaves or very, very shortly after. The P0611 and the low injector circuit codes are all signs of a bad transformer in the ficm.

I have had seals out of 08's that had the old style seal, never had an 09 apart, but thats about when we started seeing the new seal as a service replacement I think. Would stand to reason the the factory would have been using them sometime before that.

No Mike, I didnt take it appart first. We still looked like jack-asses to the customer. He took his truck in the meantime as he needed it for work, I guess a 5 cyl truck is better than no truck.

I have seen hundreds like that, I just tap them back in with the handle of my screwdriver.

I just waited 6 days for prior approval on 3 injectors for a 6.0 with the 300k dielselcare policy.Got sent to an escalation team???? I think they may be regretting selling these policies.

I put a brand new 9' western kit on a 450 a few years ago. Was pretty gravy to do, mount was a direct bolt on I beleive, dont remember drilling anything anyways. I seem to remember charging 8 hours.

Torqshift Towing Damage
cbriggs replied to Keith Browning's topic in Driveline: Transmissions, Clutches and Axles
It would have, but I dont think youtube existed then... And we were a little more concerned with putting the fire out, as the tow truck pulled right up to the shop. -
08 f-550, ongoing multiple problems
cbriggs replied to cbriggs's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Oh, almost forgot, attempted to reprogramm pcm using vcm 2. Vcm lost comm with ids and balnked the pcm in my driveway, luckily was able to recover the module. Nearly had a heart attack. -
I have an 08 f-550, finning service truck, 115k on the odo, 6400 hrs on the clock. Replaced t-stats a month or so ago for p00b7. Truck has lost all its coolant 4 times in the last year or so, due to coolant hoses being torn off the vmac cooler, and the plastic "t"s for the box heater have both blown off it as well. Driver phoned the other day, losing coolant, no leaks underneath. Guess what, front cover is cavitated thru. Replaced cover, water pump etc, flushed engine oil 3 times and cooling system.runs good, test drives ok, self tests pass, release to driver(weds) Driver comes back the next day(thursday), engine light on and in derate. P006B, Ebp sensor is fubared, skewed 5 psi high. New sensor(friday morn), all selftests pass, away he goes.He calls me at home today, cel is coming back on and in derate again. I had to go into town anyways so I grabbed an IDS, he finally got back out of the bush around 9:00 tonight, so i scanned it, now it has P0003, P0088 and P2291. At one point today it was a crank no start, which would explain the P2291. I am wondering if the moisture in the oil and throughout the engine could be affecting all these electrical components? This truck had a whole new fuel system due to contamination around 10,000km ago, so I cant really see why the fvcv would be haggered already?

Torqshift Towing Damage
cbriggs replied to Keith Browning's topic in Driveline: Transmissions, Clutches and Axles
I've seen an old e4od truck catch on fire after being towed with the rear wheels on the ground. Driver thought he put the t case in neutral, but actally was in low. Spun trans internals pretty fast I think. -
We have a pretty nice 07 f-150 at work with an oil pressure related engine noise and driveability concern. Traded a guy out of it, I can buy it for around 4 grand. Its one of those 50th aniversary trucks. Considering it for a winter project, repair and re-sell, what do you guys think? And Jim, I am only an hour from the alberta border, 2.5 hrs west of calgary. We have winter here, probably not quite as bad as yours!

We dont see nearly as many 5.4 3v engine problems in super duty right. I firmly beleive its b/c the superduty has an oil cooler. We have one customer with an 06 s-d 5.4, that has 515,000 (at last visit) on the odo, gets an oilchange every 20k or so, and has never had a single engine problem. I run 5/30 in the winter and 5/40 in the summer in my own f-150, both synthetic.

We sold those chironex piles of shit for a while as well.(couple years ago now) Several of them broke down or fell appart just sitting here. Everyone we sold was back for something. Had to replace a centifugal clutch assy on one, waited 5 weeks for parts. Service manuals are shit, dealer tech assistance is shit. Finally we said enough, and sent all our stock back. (I think they transfered it to another dealer.) I regularily work on a few boats for some friends. Replacing the steering cable on a tige ski boat is not a fun job. Very nearly had to remove the entire power train, to remove the fuel tank, to replace the cable. I also installed a new samson waketower on the same boat, another interesting job.

I've seen a couple 6.4s with 7 conv nuts as well. I find most ford long blocks have oil in them, but not usually enough. Most require a liter or two top up. I fired a 6.4 yesterday with the oil filter cap unscrewed, after replacing a cavitated/ perforated front cover (on a finning 550 with a vmac). Call it an oil flush..... Amazing how muck oil it dumps in 5 seconds run time. When the oil can symbol didn't go out in the cluster I knew exactly what I did.

I have seen and repaired at least 5 or 6 no-starts caused by a bad oring on the end of the ipr. On the other hand I have seen and repaired hundreds of no starts caused by an stc fitting failure.

I have always gone by Bruces same rule, no roloc discs on any thing that cannot be thoughroly washed on the bench.

6.0 Manual Transmission Oil Pan Removal
cbriggs replied to fordboy1987's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I have done a pan on a std 6.4l, but never a 6.o. 6.4l one went past the trans, cant remember much else, it was atleast 4 years ago i did it. -
I just did a cooler today, removed the oil pressure test fitting from the front and it came right out with intake and top cover on. Wasn't even a tight fit to get out.

I've had a few interesting jobs in my bay recently. Assembled and installed a #s and date correct 302dz engine in a 69 camaro Z28. Am currently rebuilding the original holley 780 carb (43 years old) to put on it as well. Last week replaced a crankshaft on a 66 corvette 327 b/c the crankshaft pulley fell off and ate the snout all to hell. And to think I work at a ford dealer....

A guy here has an 09 gt500, with some mods done. It runs 720hp at the crank, man is it wicked to drive. He goes thru 2 sets of rear tires per year.

We also have a vcm 2 on order. Need a second ids badly.
