  1. How did it run with fuel correction turned off Keith? I find when they are that high they usually missfire with correction off.
  2. Got an 05 f-150 towed in, indi shop diaged it for a leaking #8 fuel injector and a broken rod. Customer is a dick, phoned and phoned until sm agreed to "look at it". Truck shows up, engine is out and torn down to the short block and scattered in the box and cab. We told customer to eat shit and come get it, then we phoned recall center and explained the situation.(they agreed) 4 days later a manager from the recall center phoned and said, go ahead and fix it. So I got to longblock it, and sort out some other dudes mess of parts. OH yeah, and the f-150 with the stability control problem is still in and out of my bay. Dealing with engineering in michigan and our fse from calgary is getting very frustrating. I'm about a day away from refusing to work on it anymore.
  3. Great idea, Except now they don't want the bolts replaced, clean and reuse, with new loctite. (oops, I read never seize?)
  4. This thing is still in our shop. FSE has visited and spent a few hours on it with me. We are both convinced it is a software problem. We were on the phone with a braking systems engineer in Michigan, he needs the calibration data from the abs module (we are assuming it is the same sort of info as asbuilt, only what is actually in the module). I had to call hotline to find out how to retreive it, to find out it cant be done. I had to run a monitor trace and then send my session to hotline, and they are messing with it at their end.
  5. Well, no dice on the new (proper ratio) rack, new rcm with and without overlayed circuits, Multiple ivd initializations, a later calibration for the abs module. The fse is trying to get ahold of engineering to see if they can shed some light on the code C1963 that sets almost everytime the truck is driven. Pushing 30 hours into it now. I wonder what will happen if I quit (due to other unrelated issues at our store) before this thing is figured out?
  6. I thought all powerstrokes were eec v? with an obd2 connecter under rh side of dash.
  7. Quote: Doesn't it instill absolute confidence to see Microsoft logos festooned about new Ford products? UMM.... NO. Evertime I hear a customer complaining about trouble with sync, I have to refrain from saying, what do you expect? Its microsoft.
  8. I think we may have pinpointed the cause. It appears that this truck was built with the wrong steering rack. According to wsm and microcat, all trucks with max trailer tow should have a 20:1 ratio rack, which is 3.75 turns lock to lock. All std equiptment trucks get a 17:1 rack, which is 3.25 turns lock to lock. This truck has max trailer tow, and the rack is 3.25 turns lock to lock. I have yet to replace the rack, but we are fairly confident this will repair the concern. Like I have thought all along it is a programming glitch, the programming is set to recognize a 20:1 steering ratio, but the truck is steering at a 17:1 ratio.
  9. Well, the trigger wheel didn't solve anything. Neither did the overlay of 4 more circuits. I am now dealing with our fse out of calgary (Daryl). I'm hoping he will come out and get a fresh pair of eyes on this thing, because i am so far into it that I'm wondering if its something completely unrelated to the direction the codes and ppt tests are steering us. I'm into this thing for over 20 hours now. Nobody can tell me what can prevent the abs module from learning center of steering. The customer is losing his patience.......
  10. When I overlayed the network circuits I did it right from the pins, used some donor pins from a junk harness, pinned out the oe hardshells and inserted my overlay harness pins in their place.
  11. Ok guys, I have a nightmare truck. It has a C1963, C1280, C1282. I can repeat the C1963 on ever test drive, within 15 seconds of leaving from parked. After a 5 minute drive it will set C1280 and sometimes C1282. The concern originaly appeared around 16,000kms, and was very intermitant. The truck now has 59,000kms, and is not driveable. This is the 6th repair attempt for this concern, by several dealers, but mostly ours. The truck has had 2 rcms, 1 abs module, 2 swa sensors. I have tried another swa sensor, inspected everything, load tested network between abs and rcm, load tested all wiring between swa sensor and abs module, removed seats and carpet to inspect harnesses and floor. Overlayed network twisted pair between abs and rcm, disconected alternator, reflashed abs,run multiple ivd initializations. Have spent hours on the phone with hotline escalation team. The problem that causes the C1963 is that the truck cannot find center of steering on initial driveaway from startup. It has to find it within 30 seconds or before 70km/hr on each startup. Like clockwork, as soon as you break 70km/hr after starting the truck it sets a C1963 and turns the tractioncontrol light on. I have about 20 recordings of the event, and all sensors apear to be functioning correctly. Hotline cannot tell me what the abs module needs to see as a set condition to determine the straight ahead position of the wheel, if I knew that it would be easier to pinpoint what it isnt seeing. They want me to replace the triggerwheel on the bottom of the column, and if that doesnt improve anything they will send out an fse. Anybody have any experience with one like this? Oh yeah, truck is bone stock, no suspension, powertrain or body mods, oem tires, driven by a 65ish year old man.
  12. How would you like to be the guy that has to design that to fit in there?
  13. Keith, Ford may not have much experience building Diesel engines, but they have lots and lots of experience fixing them. Maybe that was thier inspiration to do it right.
  14. Tosh.0 is pretty funny, Also watch ridiculousness on mtv, its all viral videos. Dumbest stuff on wheels (on speed network) is pretty good also.
  15. I have seen a few do that. The sensor is biased, commanded wants to see a certain %, but the egrtp never changes so the valve closes all the way. You should see what this does on a truck with the egr blocked off. Ever heard a 6.0l backfire? I also removed the plate from the shaft and all was well. Didnt see the point in having a functioneng egr tp when the customer (hd mechanic) has his egr cooler blocked.
  16. 09 f-350 harley that used car dept just brought in, needs bed plate seals, front axle seals, track bar b-j, rad and rad hoses, primary belt tensioner, pinion seal, and has a trans leak on top somewhere. Just rolled in a 97 45 foot genie lift with a 2.3l ford industrial motor, hard to start and runs like crap once it is running. Then a friend of mine wants me to fix an oil leak on his 92 case backhoe, turns out the rear main seal is puking oil, doesnt look like fun to get at the rear of the engine.
  17. ICP sensor makes total sense Brad, Now that you mention that, I have seen a few before like that. This is a strange, almost eerie quiet. ICP sensor came with the engine, I would hope it was new, but hard to tell as it was painted over. The one in the engine I removed was puking all over the back of the engine and trans. If I remember right the the koeo icp v was .22v. I beleieve that is very close to normal? EGR valve was definatly functioning correctly.
  18. Swimming in retail 6L repairs right now, Engine in an 03 550, 3 injecters in an 04 350, now headgaskets in an 06 350. Kinda nice to be busy with big jobs, I was starting to lose my mind with all the small jobs and services we are doing lately.
  19. Well its up and running, luckily that was the only problem with it.(so far?) Not sure why but it is the quietest running 6l I have ever heard. Runs smooth and makes good power, just very very quiet at idle.
  20. Anybody ever dealt with one of these? They are out of Minneapolis Minesota (according to the stickers). Customer brought me a 6.0l built by these guys to put in their 03 f550.(That they bought thru Napa) Got it all in and buttoned up today, and voila, it wont start. Doesnt build ICP. (only 200 psi ish) So, back apart it comes, they forgot to put orings in the stc fittings on the hp flex hoses. I phoned the customer and told him, he says, well fuck, I wonder what the rest of the engine is like? Worst part is our engine was only $1200 more. At least he supplied the engine so it is all customer pay.
  21. I had one of these recently w/o intake gaskets, But the last 3 I have got had them. I was thinking the fuck up fairy visited the egr cooler packing line?
  22. Just a thought, but it looks like coolant is in the oil. The last 6.4 I had with a cavitated front cover looked alot like that inside.
