  1. Quote: Enough lube, moving the part up and down eventually works the penetrant in. HAHAHAHH Sorry Keith, I couldn't resist.
  2. Nowhere in any literature (that I'm aware of) have they actually come out and said an engines warranty lasts for "xxxx" hrs. Untill they do I dont think it should even be a consideration for warrantee denial. (unless its a lack of maintenance vs hrs concern.)
  3. Quote: (FRED = fucking ridiculous electronic device)). HAHAHA! Thats awesome Jim.
  4. I've seen a few blown out orings between the pump and the manifold that bolts on top of it. They were very large leaks. One truck actually blew that same oring twice within 100 km. I determined the pump was heating up and melted the ring. Once I unbolted pump it was very hard to turn, must have been seizing up.
  5. Quote: like to know exactly what I expect to see once I go into any transmission.... opening these damned things up and praying you will find what ails it can be time consuming, frustrating and even be overlooked during component inspection. This is the best advise on trans repair anyone can give. It is way easier to duplicate and test a problem, have all the info and research done ahead of time, and know what you expect to find wrong inside. Once the trans is in 500 peices on the bench its too late for testing, and it would definatly suck to have to put it back together to do more testing. Have a clutch and band apply chart, and a solenoid apply chart handy, and see what all of your problems have in common. I have had a few direct clutches smoked on these, all were 6.0l that involved a chip of some sort. Have also had a few reverse clutch failures and one reverse piston seal fail.
  6. Can you pull a fuel sample when the pressure drops off? Possibly a pinhole in a fuel line or a problem with the sending unit causing fuel aeration. See if sample is really foamy.
  7. I heard a blurb on the radio this morning, something about the amount of car accident related deaths is lower now than 30 years ago, even though there are one hundred times more accidents now. (not to mention cars on the road.)
  8. Quote: What sucks about this is the tensioners on the 6.4L are covered by the 5/100 diesel engine warranty. Yeah, no doubt. Of all the things to cover on diesel engine warrantee?
  9. I have had one do that, and the customer told me staight out that his wife had run it out of fuel a few months before. Didnt really atribute the failure to that at the time, but it makes total sense. I have also had a few 6.0 trucks trap air in the fuel system after filter changes or being run out of fuel.
  10. 7.5 hrs to do a headgasket on an 05 6.0l, @ 74$ per hour, in beverly hills. (Yes, i used 90210, only US zip that came to mind) This should help when doing estimates.....
  11. I have seen it 6 times now. Always when customer "limps" (read as: drives till it wont go anymore) it in rather than get it towed.
  12. Best thing I've found is use a regular socket, not a spark plug socket. The cap in the plug socket that is supposed to hold the plug snaps it off if the socket leans at all.

Anybody have the joy of toying with this one yet? (sync, MFT reflash). Between IDS freeze ups, crashes and reboots, a failed IDS software update which required uninstall / reinstall of IDS, and 3 - 45 minute software downloads, it took me 6.1hrs to do a reprogram on my first one. If you have the joy of doing one... perform all of the security changes in the sevice tip link and update IDS to the very latest level before starting anything. Follow the onscreen directions carefully, but beware, the wsm instructions leave out a few minor steps, and dont state clearly what to do in a few instances. Clicking the wrong thing in these instances will send you for a 30 minute loop backwards. Ask me how I know.....
  14. We were told the difference in "running " order of the aftertreatment parts was due to the (assumed?) fact that a cab and chassis set up would be run at higher load, more consistantly and thus create more heat for passive regen to occur.
  15. A restricted oil cooler will vent because coolant boils in the egr cooler and creates (steam) pressure. I doubt there would be enough egr flow, or exhaust temperature to boil it at idle... Unless the cooler is completely 100% plugged... Stopping egr flow at idle should remove the venting at idle if that were the case. You could remove the cover plate from the egr cooler hose addapter and look down into the oil cooler.
  16. I worked for a tow company a few years ago. We had 4 rollback decks, international chassis. We put a set of tires on one of them and it did exactly as you describe. As near as we could figure it was due to the tread design; deeper, smaller lug blocks with more syping seemed to be too soft, especially with no load on. We tried a set with larger more solid blocks and the concern was gone.
  17. Reflash it with ids, then re-run self test? Worst case the customer will let you know if he "had" an aftermarket tune.
  18. Oh wow, got yourself a winner there! I have had a banks 6 gun chip cause a glowplug nonfunction and no cold start. It was an inline one between engine harness and pcm. What did the glow plugs look like that you pulled? Possibly the propane injection has smoked the glow plugs? Have you run a KOEO GPM test?
  19. If a lifter is out of its hole (for whatever reason) you will have very low oil psi.
  20. I think I may have posted this before, but the only truck I have ever done head gaskets on twice (60,000km apart) had ARP studs installed at the first gasket replacement.
  21. I had a bridge not sit onto one of the valves recently. The top valve stem was in the pocket, but the bottom valve stem was on the edge of the bridge. Same deal, I heard it when I was cranking so I ran relative compression and found it. No other damage caused.
  22. I have used this method as well ^^^^ Works quite well.
  23. We've had about 4' in the last week. Running out of places to put it!
  24. "The other night I was flipping channels between porn and fishing, my wife says, leave it on porn, you already know how to fish."
  25. You would think engineering would want that thing back to look deeper into it? Any chance it has had a programmer or chip in it?
