2017 F-450 Flames out exhaust.
lmorris replied to Chad_Kelsoe's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
The new DEF tanks and pumps on the 2017 may not be as easily damaged by diesel as the prior years. If you read through the posts on the link I posted, most people are more concerned with Ford Canada's response than the fact that the owner may have been to blame for this. -

We are told not to "Top up" any fluids, as they are filled from the factory as well. -
6.7L front cover oil leak (vacuum pump) and oil dye
lmorris replied to kbomb2788's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
First one I had come in had been done by another dealer 2 months prior. Started by checking every single vacuum hose on the truck and found oil all the way down to the front knuckles. Quick inspection of the front hubs revealed worn out wheel bearings and badly leaking hub seals. Sent findings off to the hotline and they agreed with my diagnosis. Never said if they had seen it before and never heard anything more on the subject. -

I posted on the Protech message board, maybe we will get some answers there. -

It's obviously an injector issue. Sure would be nice to have more information on the repair. http://www.ford-trucks.com/forums/1458379-new-2017-f450-flame-thrower.html -
6.7L front cover oil leak (vacuum pump) and oil dye
lmorris replied to kbomb2788's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Any oil filled vacuum system I have repaired has had damaged front hub seals that allowed water and dirt to get pulled into the system when the 4x4 hublock system is in use. The dirt gets into the pump and wrecks the seal. The pump is fed lube oil from the engine, as soon as the seal goes, it fills everything with oil. -
Clean exhaust message won't go away.

Everything's good as far as pressure readings. Reset the Turbo system adaptive and so far I haven't heard back from the fleet manager on it. -
You can claim straight time to access the damaged wiring and to open the harness/close the harness, or use applicable SLTS for access. Only the actual repair of the wire is covered by the *d45WR.

Be very careful timing that bugger. Read the manual very carefully. Be very careful putting the front cover back on too. The black rubber seal for the oil pump should be put in the block, not on the cover, chamfer facing out. If you don't, the seal will tear and you will have no oil pressure. Tech next to me didn't quite follow the WSM doing a right head gasket replacement and ended up tearing it apart 3 times. 2016 F450 pick-up, Cranks/ no start: 1490 PSI ICP. Customer had WIF message, drained separator, took him 20 minutes to get it running, now it's here. He also stated he wants the truck back tomorrow to go camping with it, regardless of weather it's fixed or not. Not sure how he's going to pull a trailer with it. 2015 F350 diesel full of gasoline. Did you know the 9b246 kit is over $3000 cheaper than individually priced parts.

Sorry Tyler, no go. Running a full shop at the moment. I'm not going to lie Tyler...You don't want to work here anyways. That's another tale for another time.....

Starting up a new thread because this is the first time I have run into this situation. I have done a few contaminated fuel system repairs, mostly gasoline or metal in the system. Only 2 for DEF. The first one went smooth, I don't think the truck was actually ran, but the key was turned on. This current one was ran. I removed the tank and cleaned it out. Performed the flush procedure per the GSB, removing the fuel cooler inlet line as stated. This was my mistake, I didn't take into consideration how much DEF might have been in the system because the customer said they had drained the tank themselves, but it still runs rough. After getting it all fixed up and running the water in fuel message pops up. Pulled the tank again and its definitely got more than just diesel in it. My thought is the rest of the return system from the fuel cooler back was full of this crap and was pumped back into the tank. Thankfully the separator caught it and nothing made it to the engine. Now that it's back together a second time, I have removed the return line off the pump and have run a few more gallons through it. Anybody else have this happen?

How is that even possible? -
complete fuel system replacement labour time???
lmorris replied to the_twig_187's topic in 6.7L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Just finished one off. Quoted 17.9 hrs. Done in 14.7. Didn't even remove the EGR cooler, just the right side battery tray. -
Just finishing a fuel tank full of DEF repair. Waiting on parts for one that drove for 30 km's with gas in the tank. Have 2 6.7L's in line for oil leaks.

Well, now. Looks like this is turning into a funny pets in vehicles thread. I have a doozy. Mid 80's Jeep Cherokee with 2 dog in the back. Customer said the dogs are fine in there. Lift it up to check the brakes and the dogs either became scared or excited, because both of them decided to take a crap on the back seat, which wasn't covered.

Had a car up on a hoist running, checking exhaust leaks and a bird flew into the shop, under the car, and right into the fan. The body fell to floor, we found the head clear across the shop at the end of the day when cleaning up.

Roda Deaco tied into throttle valve harness...
lmorris replied to lmorris's topic in Upgrade and Aftermarket Equipment
I can see that, all the shut down valves have plates twice as think as the factory ones. -
You're not alone. I have resorted to working at my own pace. When they ask for a "quick diagnosis" I reply with "Holy shit, they finally cane out with a diesel engine that can be quickly diagnosed, well isn't this the best day ever!" It varies from day to day. Sometimes my responses go from condescending to down right nasty. The stupid thing is, we have this kick ass work distribution system at our disposal, but none of the yahoo's up front will use it, and none of them work together. They say shit runs downhill, I have designed a system where it gets thrown back uphill before it hits me. I also use phrases like "unrealistic expectations" and "not my concern" when they try to throw too much at me. Plus I am not ashamed to use the phrase "I don't know".
-
Sometimes dealers will buy multiple licences and will not need all of them. You could look into renting a licence off someone, we have 2 of our unused ones being used by big fleet accounts in the oil patch.
-
This is what they mean. Keeps the shop to one color, looks more professional.
-
So how do you get away with parts returns? Typically they don't like that.
-
I believe they changed it to reduce leak points. At least the 2017's removed the sensor.

6.4 camshaft removal with crank in block
lmorris replied to Brad Clayton's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I've heard both horror and success stories with this. I'm with Matt though. The crucial thing is to check runout before and after the repair. I have been told by a Ford trainer that with the same runout and proper installation, it will be fine.
