  1. Soon to my stall is a 2009 F350, customer droving on highway with oil light on then it quit. Pushed it in, added 12 litres of oil and fired it up. Turbo rattling, high pressure shaft broken, lower end squak...How much money do you have? $15,000. Might have been a whole lot less if he would have shut it down when the light came on.
  2. This seems to be a quality control issue on block re-useage. Funny you should mention warranty. The first head gasket claim was kicked back with the question "Did you use the coolant loss TSB to diagnose this concern?" .....Cough" An idiot say what?"...Seriously?...So I printed it up the TSB for our waranty clerk and she read it and almost fell off her chair laughing. She then promptly replied "This TSB only applies to the 6L engine, which this vehicle does not have." As far as the waterpump goes, I will put thre old one back in the new short block, after I check deck flatness, that is.
  3. Hotline told me this... WTF?? This is the one with that I put in an enhanced long block and a water pump(because it looked like it was rubbing, or had some possible cavitation wear). The impellers on the replacement pump spun on the shaft, so I changed it. It came back with degas bottle purge, so I pulled the heads, nothing obvious found, so I put new gaskets in. 10 days later it is back, further inspection revealed the block deck flatness is out of spec. AND the water pump looks like it took a beating again. Makes no sense to me.
  4. Update: It's back, coolant blowing out the degas again. Pulled the heads and are still straight, crack by one valve seems harmless. Checked the block distortion and it is over spec. I guess we will be putting in a short block.
  5. We see those on a regular basis, mostly from the front hub seals failing and the front hubs stay locked in. They get up to highway speeds and BOOM. What a mess. We have 2 fleets that stock a few of their own t-cases and send them down with the trucks.
  6. Do you have access to Ford manuals. There really are no short cuts and the procedure is laid out nicely. It helps to have either long arms and fingers or a second set of eyes when putting the bolts back in down by the lifter holders. You do have to remove the rear cover. You will need the valve spring compressor tool that allows you to remove the rocker arms with out removing the head bolts.
  7. Have one currently that is back again for smoke and the coolant is purging out the degas, just did headgaskets a week ago. Seems to happen when they pull their trailer. This started as an enhanced long block because they melted down one piston. The new water pump impeller spun on the shaft and it ran hot. Fixed the pump issue and was good for a month, then the degas purging started. The last time I had the heads off it had a crack by an exhaust valve but not through the seat. I let it go, now its back blowing out the coolant again. Sadly I can't remember which head it was so I get to take them off AGAIN.
  8. Seen this code twice, never found anything concrete as far as a failed part goes. Code is set when EGT12 is reading below a calculated expected temp. When comparing to reference values, all the EGT sensors are lower than what is listed. There is no explanation as to what is being used to calculate this expected value and why. I replaced EGT12 plus pigtail on one truck to see if the readings would change, they didn't, but the code never reset on both trucks after clearing them. Has anyone seen this code or have any more incite?
  9. Took the truck home for the night, 30 minute highway drive each way with some city driving before and after, no smoke.
  10. The 2014 WSM still has the E-series listed and the 2015 shows no North American vehicles. And no diesel engine option, I had no idea that 2010 was the last year for the diesel E-series.
  11. Lesson learned: NEVER tell ESP any more than they need to know. Especially customer pay stuff. FWIW an oil cooler can't cause head gasket failure, the overboost does.
  12. That is very odd. I have never seen mls head gaskets leak so much that it would smoke out the tail pipe. Who's long block? Ford's? I would have a close look at the heads for sure. It's a Ford/Vulcan engine. Not sure if the white smoke is directly linked to the head gaskets, it didn't smell like coolant. Just finished up the job and going for a drive, we shall see if the smoke stops. Heads are fine visually, no warpage, very minor crack by one valve seat, but Ford says those are normal. Cylinder walls look good too.
  13. Can this thread be stickied? I tried finding this 3 days ago and couldn't, we are starting to see more come in.
  14. Here is a doosey. Last week I had bedplates on a 6.4L with only 24,000 km on it, but was over the 6 year time period, and they had ESP. First submission comes back "ESP will no be participating in this repair as it is still covered under the powertrain warranty". WRONG, so I informed them of their mistake and continued on. When I finally got approval they had the labour rate listed wrong, low by about $12 per hour. Now they are being dicks because of their over-site and won't pay. Now here is the kicker, they just approved an injector on a 6L with a cracked tip because we told them it was possibly metal fatigue and there was no water in the fuel.
  15. Mine needs head gaskets.....Just had a long block put in. IIRC it was a bugger to bleed the cooling system when I put it in. Now I know why.
  16. Just finished an Enhanced short block on a 2009 F250, sludged up oil and seized main bearings. The F550 I had in earlier with the sludged up oil left on a flat deck. Just brought in the 2008 F350 I put a long block in a few weeks ago, head gaskets are gone on it. I have had at least 7 6.4L's torn down to short blocks in the last 4 weeks. All retail but 2.
  17. I told the guy that it wasn't anything to be concerned about because it isn't fuel or coolant. He seemed ok with that but has booked it in for a thorough check up. Thing is with this truck is that it gets bounced between drivers, so getting a complete story of past behavior is next to impossible. Will update as required.
  18. I have one booked in that I have verified the smoke. Last month we put in a long block for a melted down piston. Already had the EGR and DPF deleted. Truck runs great, lots of power. Truck sat for a week, then they noticed it smoking white at idle mostly and clears up driving, it even cleared up idling in the parking lot while I was doing a quick visual on all the vitals. Smoke almost resembles cold weather exhaust, not overly thick and no smell. Any thoughts?
  19. It hit the ditch during the police chase and rolled into a farmer's field. As for the IDS, they stole it from Westlock Ford. Broke into the shop, went straight for the IDS and left. Then they came here and used the IDS to program the new key they had, drilled out the lock cylinder and drove off. The driver is currently in police custody.
  20. How would you put the new ones in? Don't you need a hammer? There would be no room to swing it.
  21. The story starts 2 weeks ago with a couple of vehicle thefts. One has returned after it was involved in a police chase. The thieves broke into another dealer and stole an IDS to assist in the theft. Here is what came back to us.
  22. That the 2013 and ups have 2, YES 2, NOX sensors and modules,as well as a before and after DPF hose going into the DPF monitor? We just did, and I have seen no articles about the running change.
  23. Especially when we capitalize the first 2 letters of words....
