    Sleep

I go to sleep watching TV, helps clear my head.
  2. Compression test is good. Although after some cleaning, I discovered the upper rad hose has been changed. Going with Matt's advice on the timing cover inspection and will have a good look at the EGR coolers whilst in there. Thanks Matt for the info, never would have thought a slow leak would do that to the oil. So I think I need to get a look at the back of the cover to see if I have any holes.
  3. 2009 F450, 170495 KM. Original complaint: Overheating and oil in coolant. Visual inspection, degas bottle empty, inner walls are black, no signs of oil in coolant though. Drained rad, got about 3L of that red "Heavy duty coolant" Checked oil level, black, thick and over full. Pulled the oil filter and the oil is so thick it would not drain back to pan, filter looks like its been in there for awhile. Drained the oil, all 30L of it, let it drain over night. When I dumped out the buckets I found about 3L of coolant in them. Pulled of the upper rad hose, no sign of oil in there either. New oil and filter. Filled with 13L of water. Ran engine. Lots of blow-by. Pressure tested cooling system, seems to have a coolant leak, but can't see one. If it's getting into the crankcase, why am I down 12L? The oil condition does not suggest that it has 12L of cooant mixed in. It looks like tar. This one has me a little confused. Going to do a compression test and try to get a long block.
  4. you mean the die grinder collet tool? Gonna out myself on this one. The last dealer I worked at had a tech that walked off with a lot of tools and management that was too tight assed to replace them. So I made my own using that tool. Working great for over 15 years. No issues. Sorry guys.
  5. Lucky for me I got my start at a Midas shop that had their own training, plus they signed me up for my apprenticeship. After 3 years there I was given the opportunity to work at a dealership under someone I knew on a night shift( the other guy was day shift). Finished up my apprenticeship there then moved on after a very stupid mistake on my part that got me fired. But that's another story. Thankfully I did very few oil changes in my time.
  6. It should have the two engine oil dipstick tube o'rings. The last 3 I did came with them.
  7. Got it. Makes you wonder who let him get to forth year. I worked at a dealership that put you on flat rate as soon as you passed 3rd year. Not good for the guy that was doing nothing but oil changes for the first 3 years. He quit soon after. Partially his fault though, he should have pushed for more work. IIRC: they teach you how to measure wheelbase in 1st year, in Inches. Funny stuff.
  8. What about unburnt fuel in Cat, left over from regen that lights up later when it get hot enough. Or fuel that doesn't get burnt off properly on shutdown and collects in the exhaust, waiting to get burnt off when the temps allow it. Just a thought.
  9. Submit it with the explanation of the part update. It may take a few times to get your point across, but I should go through.
  10. Are you sure he wasn't trying to mess with you? Marking a 2 foot piece at 24 inches? Uh, I would have made 24-1 inch increments just to be a smart ass.
  11. I just finished an ESP claim that is so far not going good. The truck has only 23,000 km on it, but is over the 5 year limit. The first response was that repair is covered under powertrain warranty so ESP won't participate. WRONG, had to point their mistake. Then they come back asking for labor ops because they only get 12.9 for bedplates... .
  12. You need to have a good eye, and know what to look for on those buggers. I have glasses, but need to take them off to see better up close.
  13. I think they put in some kind of muffler/check valve maybe to hide it. Will see when we order one up.
  14. Judging by the fact that the front clip is removed in the first picture, I will guess front end collision with some frame damage.
  15. 2010 F350, Enhanced short block: 156319 KM, high crank case pressure, #2 -60 on power balance and 14% on relative compression, lots of white smoke. Forth one in the past month. Next up is a 2008 F350 with only 24000 KM for bed plates. Been doing a lot of those lately too.
  16. Does he have a passport? We could use him up here. Sublet him out to all our fleets, he could just walk their lots checking each truck as it comes back from a job site. I would save them a lot of time and make us a lot of money. We could work you in somewhere with a consult fee.
  17. Also a Snap-On B3404B brake adjuster works nice too.
  18. I loosen the clamp last, that way the pipe is loose. I open the clamp just enough to get the pipe out and leave it on the flange. Don't try to pop it over the flange like you can on a 6L EGR cooler.
  19. Two 2010 F350's that are making oil. First one is waiting on approval for HPFP cause I found no other leaks. The other is waiting to get in for diagnosis.
  20. Used to do that with STC fittings on head gasket jobs. Second work order was written up 2 days later.
  21. I have a 4 foot piece of plywood that I put on the oil change caddy with 3 drain pans lined up, the middle one gets the big extension pan, then hit the hose with a long pry bar. Most times I catch every drop and stay dry.
  22. There seems to be no accountability for one's actions anymore. They just don't give a shit. It starts early too, the new grade 7 kids at my son's school are disrespectful little shits. One of the local radio station DJs has a good theory on this, ever since they stopped keeping score and giving everyone "Participation" ribbons, it has gone down hill. I could go on forever on this one.
