Some really wild rides
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI replied to mchan68's topic in Upgrade and Aftermarket Equipment
Yeah pretty awesome!!! Did anyone notice the small exhaust pipe on the passenger side, What the hell was that for ??? -
Quote: but customer never wanted to leave truck My take on this is shame on the customer, if they want it fixed it has to be down for a period of time to enable you to properly diagnose and repair it. This sounds bad and I'm probably going to hear it from a few here but...I personally would refuse to work on it until I had the time to fix it the right way. By the way any a/m goodies on the truck???

Cost +10 usually covered the cost to run it thru the office. It's pretty sad that your dealer is already making money off of your work, and now they make more on the parts side from you. Sounds like your dealer has no consideration for you or the other employee's at your shop. Greedy SOB's /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif

Quote: Life is a lot like a pick up truck.... after a while, the paint fades and picks up a few rock chips.... but it's still pretty good transportation... That's true, but most old things can be made new again. Paint job, tune up, hell even hop it up. Maybe you just need a overhaul, maybe go out and get the Electra Glide you want. You can't put out to everyone all the time, sometimes you have to take some time for yourself.

Happy B-day Aaron -
Some of the Big Bore Cummins Celect engines use a ECM cooler plate that mounts to the block and the ECM mounts to the cooler, Cummins uses fuel to cool the ECM's. It's the same size as the ECM and has a inlet and outlet, obviously. It also has a one way check valve in the inlet to stop the fuel from draining back and losing prime. Cummins has had heat sink issues in the past and found that this system worked well. The CM550 and CM870 ECM's produced alot of heat from the Drivers they were built with on the newer IS series engines. The newer ISB HPCR engines have the ECM suspended away from the blocks and the lift pump mounted between the ECM and the block. I don't know of any real issues with them as of yet. I thought there was a TSB about the mounting on the valve cover grommets on the 6.0. Could this be a fix that Ford has for some of the heat transfer? It seems to move the ECM a little farther away from the v/c's.

Turbo issues? Oil in the CAC? -
Okay so we all have seen a ton of FICM failures, but has anyone determined what is causing the failures? Possible the board or drivers may not be strong enough to handle everything it has to do?

+1 on your insight on the programs available. Cummins expensive but worth the price for the available data and information, Cat still a pain and Detroit and Allison difficult to deal with.

Sounds like Keith is getting an idea....

Chrysler Shutting Down ALL Factories for 30 Days!
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI replied to ktmlew's topic in The Water Cooler
Just seen that report on NBC news, this sucks!!! Just came across this... Ford Adds To Holiday Shutdown At 10 Plants POSTED: Wednesday, December 17, 2008 DETROIT -- Ford said it will shut down 10 of its North American assembly plants for an extra week in January due to the slumping U.S. auto market. Spokeswoman Angie Kozleski said the normal two-week holiday shutdown will be extended to Jan. 12 at all operating assembly plants except those in Claycomo, Mo., near Kansas City and the Dearborn, Mich., truck plant. Those two plants will return to work as normal on Jan. 5. Both make the new F-150 pickup truck, while Claycomo also makes the Ford Escape and Mercury Mariner. Ford will also extend the shutdown at some engine, transmission and parts stamping plants, or shut portions of them to match production cuts at the assembly plants. -

1999 frightliner 3126 stalling
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI replied to eastendpowerstroke's topic in General Diesel Engines
It may be coincidence but probably not. If the truck was running before you swapped out injectors and now it won't fire. What did the other injector look like, Carbon past the seat, broken orings, loose not seated? Did you clean the cup before reinstalling the injector, have you checked the return for aeration, cut or broke oring from install, have seen it alot of cut orings causing all kinds of havoc. Just seems weird that the truck won't fire after just replacing a injector, I'd be looking right back at that injector. Also double check to make sure the hold downs are tight. -
+1 Didn't realize what was up with the cake, Sorry Keith Happy b-day so how old or how young??? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

Jim let me... Hey Dumb ass (being nice as I can) the thingie on the firewall is the starter solenoid, not the GPR which is located on top of the engine, but be careful there are 2 of them one of which is the Air intake heater relay. but shhss don't tell him they look alike he will probably put a Starter solenoid in place of either and relay be fucked up!! Don't forget about his silly ass questions. We all have to answer him with care and consideration (Sarcasym). Makes you really want to have a drink doesn't it Jim. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif

coolant:gold versus green
LARRY BRUDZYNSKI replied to fjubain's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Quote: Oh... we just have to love - AKKKKK!!, my old man memory can't even remember the good word for it, now .... 'unproven observation' help an old man out... Jim I believe this would be a good word for you unsubstantiated Now my take on Antifreeze or coolant which ever is politically correct this week. As long as the substance we are using in the "cooling systems" are chemically compatible and are either precharged or added with DCA or SCA, what's the difference. The additive package is what the manufactures are primarily concerned with, not one of them wants to pay for repairs if the base coolant is incompatible with the inside of there engines, every engine manufacturer has there own requirements for coolant, but there are many good coolants out there for substantially less. As for having to check the levels of the additive at certain required mileages, everyone should have been informed about this. If the engines come in for problems due to cavitation, this tells me that either the company or individual doing the pm's are not checking these levels of the additive package. Right now I'm dealing with a fleet customer that has been doing alot of in chassis overhauls on Series 60 Detroits, we asked why he is doing so many and inquired about the DCA levels and pm intervals, he has not been checking or adding any DCA during pm's for at least the last 2 years. Shame on him. PM's are the point that these things should be checked. -
