  1. I agree with you Aaron, as much as the system has it flaws, it has improved the situation, and removed some junk from the roadways. I would love to see safety inspections mandatory for all vehicles when renewing licence plates. This would remove a lot of unsafe junk from the roadways, just my opinion.
  2. I have been off work since Dec 25 2011, when I contracted Bacterial Meningitis. I was in a coma for 7 days and in ICU for 3 weeks. I came away with some light sensitivity issues with my vision, deaf in my left ear, and lost all low frequency sounds and a lot of high frequency loss in my right ear. Also as a result of the hearing loss, I now suffer severe and debilitating Tinnitus. I can have one on one conversations face to face, but cannot understand speech on a phone or tv, or in a group situation. I did have a Cochlear Implant in my left ear, but it doesn't work as a result of the damage caused by the Meningitis. Right now I am going through the process of determining if I want to pursue an Auditory Brainstem Implant. My main stumbling block for working is the Tinnitus, as it gets brutally worse when I am around a lot of noise for any period of time. My remaining hearing allows me to hear a lot of noise fairly clear, but speech is very difficult to understand. Realistically, I will never return to a dealership/ garage setting again, especially full time. Since being off have been approached by a few fleets, and other facilities that would like me to do casual work for them when I return working, so I may just end up freelancing. My timeframe for work is unknown, as I am still dealing with other medical issues caused by the Meningitis. I keep up with my training; my dealer has me still active in the system, probably because I am "still" doing warranty repairs. I also try to get my hands dirty with past customers trucks and friends trucks that need attention. It could have been worse is how I look at it, and just keep going one day at a time, and now my cooking skills are getting honed quite well !! Sorry for the long post !
  3. Me too Mike !! It is quite entertaining for me, as I have not even been working for the past 20 months due to illness.
  4. Doesn't pay to get mouthy to those guys, they get even ! Seen it too many times when I worked for an independent truck shop, spending my day at the scale house fixing trucks. But then again, if you play by the rules, there is nothing to worry about.
  5. I too have been keeping up on courses at home. Haven't had any issues with the web courses; I am running windows 8. Just recently realized the CC icon for closed caption !! Works great and makes it easier to follow for those of us who are hearing impaired
  6. have you replaced the STC fitting ? Have had a couple that were worn enough that would allow the branch tube to flex and hit the rear cover. Not saying it isn't a lifter, but have had these create some interesting harmonics intermittently. Either way, if you havn't replaced it, I would do it while you are in there.
  7. I agree on the disability side of things, it can be a nightmare. Sunny side of dirt is always a plus !! Carry on with the speedy recovery !
  8. Mike, I have also seen the small round headed plug in the oil rail leak; I believe it is about in the middle of the oil rail. It caused the same symptom, once started, it was fine.
  9. probably drinking a beer somewhere....... remember, the 6.0 was fairly new at the time !! In Kingston we were only out to later in the evening. At the time, also being a Wholesale Distributor for the Toronto Star, it marked the first in my 20 years with the newspaper where it didn't print. Woo Hoo, it was a night off for me
  10. seen it many times, for whatever reason, it was usually in E vans. I love those vans ! Sorry Mike
  11. how old/ thin is the oil ? Had one; mind you it was a 6.0, that would turn on the oil light, and read very low base pressure. Oil was so thin it was like coloured water. Fresh oil and filter raised the oil pressure and corrected the oil light. Good basic thing to look at.
  12. agree with the cavitation. Remember sending more than a couple to the machine shop for sleeves back in the day ! A good friend of mine owns a machine shop, and I would end up there at night helping to sleeve blocks for him.
  13. Mike, try Windmill Truck Caps in Elora, they have TONS of takeoffs, reasonably priced, I got tires/rims there for my GMC
  14. Congrats ! Good luck on the trip. I am in Kingston, Ont should a need arise.
  15. I love changing them ! Would do them all day if there were enough of them !
  16. I love my Snap-On, sorry ! It has been through the wringer, and has survived more abuse than I deem normal, especially on service calls.
  17. There are a couple of older trucks I would like to have; maybe someday. I have restored a couple for other guys, less the bodywork, nice way to relax and enjoy working on something. I did get to fly in a 1940's restored bi-plane a couple weeks ago, now that was cool
  18. This sounds more to me about getting paid, versus fixing a broken truck. To me, if you document everything, and involve Hotline ( although they don't guarantee Warranty coverage), perform and record all tests and steps as per the Warranty Policy, and express concern to management, the onus is on them to determine whether to proceed with a warranty or retail repair; that is why they are called Service Managers. If then, after a warranty repair a claim is bounced, it goes against just about every labour law if they try to deduct pay or not pay you for your work. An issue of payment would only happen or come close to happening once for me, and I would be working somewhere else. If it was me, and I follow everything to a tee, and management said to repair under warranty; which has happened; and it gets kicked back as non warrantable, its up to the manager to go after the customer, AND I get bumped up to retail time, providing I dotted my I's and crossed my T's. Management should have made the warranty/retail call a while ago by the sounds of it, rather than leaving the guys broken truck sitting in the back, he cannot be too happy either Sorry for the long post
  19. Take the IDS with you on roadtest, quite often after a stalling event due to worn STC fitting, if it restarts after you will generally see your IPR duty max to 85 % for a split second before the ICP pressure climbs enough for it to start. Good luck !!
  20. I have had too many to count that a worn STC fitting caused this concern. " I just turned on to the off ramp and it died", or " I slowed down to make the turn and it died " are common complaints from customer.
  21. Same one Alex. She didn't give me an hourly rate, but when I told her what my deal was, she said I would have to go to Northern Alberta to see those numbers. Thanks but I will pass.
  22. Got mine adjusted as well. Anyone else have recruiters getting a hold of them from BC ?
  23. When I click on the Service page after I login, I get the new format page. When I click on Service Pubs, it just reloads the page I am on.
