  1. Cam sensor mounting pad on the block with a rust buildup ?
  2. I have used studs a few times during repairs. Never had an issue, and some of these trucks have 200,000 + km since repairs. I have seen 6.0 with over 500,000 km since head gasket and studs with no issues. Not to say it can't weaken the block, but fortunately for me I have not endured such a fatality
  3. I have 2. One is mine, the other belongs to the snap on dealer. They work good, but are prone to cracking. Dealer gave me one from his stock to rotate with mine when its broken, so I am never without one. Some like the socket, some don't.
  4. Sorry Alex, you did say " suck total ass ", I stand corrected.
  5. The new style is growing on me. Like Alex said, the earlier Sprinters were marginal, but as with any new product, a few revamps and changes make the world of difference. We only need to look in our own backyard to see proof of that. What I see at our dealership, is that most people that want cube van/trucks now, opt for the F450/550 trucks over the cube van. Higher payload capacity, and better for alot of dock height applications. Not to mention, it is better for serviceability on our end ! The new styling will able us to stay on the same page as the competition as it evolves. I think that the reliability and fuel efficiency will be the main selling points at the start, then they will soon become a staple on the road replacing the E box. I know in our area the Sprinters are quickly becoming popular with alot of tradesman and fleets, even the Nissan version is showing a greater presence on the road !
  6. My sister asked me if I wanted to come back up for a visit, I politely declined ! Although I do miss the area since my visit.
  7. Have had a few turbo's make a noise on accel in the past. Possible CAC hose have a split in it that opens up under load, uppipe crack can cause noise as well. Just some suggestions, at least it should be retail !!
  8. Same as Alex for me. I have seen many pushrods bent after startup, but were usually from the pushrod not being in the lifter on re-assembly.
  9. IIRC, there was a TSB out for these early ones to reprogram the TCM for erratic shifts above 50 mph. There were also some harness issues with these, possible engine concern maybe, causing weird shifting ? From experience, alot of transmission performance issues usually ended up as engine performance causes.
  10. I can't wait until I can return to work. Miss working on the trucks, but I don't miss the warranty/ paperwork headaches !
  11. First, hope everyone in the affected areas are making out ok. During our ice storm in 98, a local service station was gouging pretty hard for gas as he was one of the few that was able to pump. After the storm, the fines and charges that were laid against him, and the public boycott of his station, quickly led to his demise, and closing of his business.
  12. Didn't really spend much time in Whitehorse, although we did drive by the dealership. Spent most of the time salmon fishing in Alaska, and 4 wheeling behind their house near Mt. Sima. Very nice country !
  13. Alex, considered that myself. Have spoke to a couple dealers in Alberta in the past. I was just in Whitehorse for 9 days visiting my sister... very tempting !
  14. I have gone weeks working on nothing but E vans. Don't mind them at all. Anything with a 6.0 litre in it means I am buying steak at the grocery store !!
  15. Did you remove the plug from the pump prior to installing it ? Have seen this happen before.
  16. FICM part number 4307223R91. Half shell part number 5010598R92

    FICM Pricing

Just a heads up if anyone was not aware : My buddy needed a halfshell for his truck, current pricing from Ford was $417 plus taxes. For price comparison I check out our local International dealer, $186 tax included ! They can sell to customer's cheaper than the dealer can buy it from Ford !
  18. I too am anal about fluid levels, it was instilled in me right from the get-go when I got into the trade. It is admiral when someone is " big" enough to say I messed up. As I'm sure many can relate to, it is hard to get some newcomers to learn this habit. Case in point, our oil change kid in the truck shop, knows how much oil a Mercedez takes in a Sterling boom truck; and "always" checks the oil level, before and after starting the engine; and will argue with you when asked if he checked it. Recently, as he was parking the truck and it "stalled" in the parking lot, first thing we asked him; were the levels good, to which he replied yes. Funny thing, nothing showed on the dipstick, and nothing come out when the drain plug was removed. New engine for customer, very unhappy dealer principle.
  19. Just stop by, still hard for me to hear when talking on the phone
  20. That's funny. They are trying to discourage alot of warranty repairs. Eric has been doing alot of the work, and they have had to eat some repairs due to technician not certified ! Tell Stephane I said hi. Stop over some time, I would love to talk, take care.
  21. Jake ! How's it going ? Have they contacted you about returning ? Apparently they are advertising for either a diesel or tranny guy. Brian is too busy with transmissions and doing my work since I have been off.
  22. Mike, as far as aftermarket pumps, for the 03/04 early builds, I have installed numerous pumps without any issues. I am not exact on the manufacturer, they come from a pump shop in town, I believe they are Alliant. They are just over $600 once the core is returned. A couple of the trucks have gone 500,000 km + on these pumps with no ill effects.
  23. Ebay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/130705379670?var=&ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649#ht_500wt_1202
  24. When the rear bolt on the turbo is " round", I spit the turbo, remove pedestal bolts, then move the pedestal and the back half of the turbo into a better position to either use heat safely, or get more leverage on the rear bolt. Only takes minutes, and you can service the turbo at the same time.
