  1. Corrosion at the bulk head connector on trans ? Have seen more than 1 transmission declared dead only to get it in from another shop to find corrosion causing the problem
  2. Agreed. Too much possibility of metal visiting other parts of engine causing future/immediate damage. Too much of a liability in my opinion.
  3. I wish I could help you out. Dirt or asphalt ? I played in the dirt for a couple of years after I sold my drag car.
  4. Stay strong Jim ! That disease has tried to run rampant through my immediate family the past couple years. It has been beat down with positive attitudes and great medicine !
  5. Wow that's pretty careless, I have seen people leave glow plugs in, but never injectors Kind of asking for trouble !
  6. I have had one previously that was similar in concern. One of the guys in the shop did gaskets and the coolers on an F350, then complained it was slow to make power. I ended up replacing the injectors to remedy the problem. This truck had quite a few miles on it, and maitenance history was less than desirable. Thinking that all the coolant entering the cylinders contributed to a pre existing condition, as we couldn't drive it when it came in. Customer later stated that it had been sluggish but he thought it was due to it needing work' he had been adding coolant to it for a while. Have you checked for a partially plugged MAP hose as well ?
  7. I cannot remember how many times a I have had to replace a waterpump; for various symptoms; after installing an FQR, usually less than 10,000 kms from install.
  8. I just received a new netbook that has Windows 7 Starter on it. Has anybody ever trie to load IDS on it, or should I just buy the upgrade to Windows 7 Pro ?
  9. Now that is saying something! Yes, out of the frying pan, into the fire. I can not even begin to tell you how much I HATE those cars! I know I have made loads more $$$ working on diesels than one ever could on those cars !
  10. I put a Ford FQR 6.0 in an ambulance, got it all buttoned up and it wouldn't start. No base oil pressure. Boy was I impressed. I'm guessing they have a stack of printouts that they just throw one in the paperwork showing all the dyno results. Thankfully the second one was much better as 6 months later that same ambulance was the one that got me to the hospital in time to save my life !!
  11. I think with the time involved; labour charge to do this; it gets close to being more economical to just replace the injector, for the little bit extra money wise. I always like seeing Vice Grips laid out in the how to videos; precision tooling at its finest !
  12. True. Usually for me, when I try to do a short cut like that when I am trying to remedy a shortfall, it usually ends up biting me again ! After doing so many of these, the intake can be off in a very short amount of time, and I start fresh on re assembly.
  13. I messed up one job, not intentionally or maliciously, but a case of too many things on the go, and a lapse in concentration. After road testing truck at the end the day after replacing the coolers, noticed a slight drip of coolant. Somehow I managed to cut the fat o ring that sits on top of the front cover. Told them of my mess up, we are hourly so I get paid regardless. Parts covered the necessary fluids/ gaskets to redo it. It was a very good customer who uses it to earn his living, so I stayed and worked during our night shift on my own time, rather than staying on the clock. Customer was very pleased, and ended up writing a nice letter to our Dealer Principal about the incident and how it was handled. The next week I even got a raise ! When I switched dealers years ago, the customer followed me, spends about $150,000 a year on his fleet in the shop.
  14. A " normal" fourth had longer legs; more for cruising, the short fourth allowed the motor to rev quicker and stay in the power band. IIRC
  15. Mine doesn't renew until next year. Oh well, another tax deduction !
  16. I have seen them in various conditions that rank below pathetic. Some that come from fleet garages, the ones that are retail that have been elsewhere, and even some out of our own shop. My favourite is when they show up on the hook already in a state of disassembly. I agree, some people don't care because they don't want to work on them. Me personally, I don't mind them at all, but then again, I didn't mind working on the Wheel Trans buses either.
  17. I agree with Alex. There is far too many of them on the road in our location. I have seen me go a couple of weeks with nothing but E vans. I personally don't mind them at all; and they pay good too !!
  18. Carquest, Napa. Hope your commute isn't too brytal today !
  19. There is a local aftermarket shop where I live that installs all these products. They are even constantly fed this work by a local Ford store on new trucks as part of the new vehicle sale. Hard to educate the customer some times, when the dealer is encouraging it !
  20. https://www.psedealerequipment.com/sites...es/Mach%204.jpg We have a pair of these ( see link) Not the ideal setup for some, but this was our only option for our shop. The portability is awesome, I have done a cab lift outside on our concrete pad when the shop was full ! They each lift 18,000 lbs. When used one at front and one at back, you can lift a F750 dump/box truck with no problem, and they work great for cab lifts of any configuration.
