I think I work at the wrong dealership...
Jeff Clyde replied to Alex Bruene's topic in The Water Cooler
Alex, we aren't the selling dealer, but "we" are the dealer in Kingston. They are sold by Leeds Transit just north of us and we get enough of there units that get problems induced by the body builder in the U.S. Lucky us. The other tech here just got finished doing a HPP in one, cab on of course, then got wrote up by the manager for having too much time on the job. I have one sitting outside for the last 2 weeks for a RH uppipe, but havn't had time to get to it yet. We are paid hourly, so it is not too bad for jobs like this, b ut we constantly take flak for being over on jobs, albeit they are usually the nightmare electrical problems, or like you get, someone elses hack job/ scam, that you actually fix for the customer bet get reamed by Ford because it has been already "fixed" 2-3 times previously somewhere else. Anymore I just document the sH!# out of the repair, fix it properly, and move on to the next one. It is almost time to move on, just havn't decided on whether to move east or west ! -
I think I work at the wrong dealership...

We get that all the time Alex. Trucks towed in from around 1 hour east/west of us. Customers get towed to the other dealers and either get told "we cannot get to it for at least 6 or 7 days", or we don't have anyone certified to do diesel warranty. Funny part is that the customer often says that their shop was empty. Alex, have you had the pleasure of working on the "Friendly Bus" that the TTC uses ? Front wheel drive F-550 drop frame buses with more wiring and plumbing alterations than the space shuttle, what were they thinking? -
Put an FQR in a CN rail truck a couple of weeks ago complete drop in, stayed late to finish it and fire it. Started up and immediately began missing on #8. Went home to have a cold one and start fresh in the morning, 50 psi compression on #8. Apparently someone f#$%% up the rebuild process. Keep up the good work guys !!

Have had a couple of trucks lately that had an EBP sensor acting up. Replaced sensor and pigtail and solved the issue. Good luck !

Bruce, I was not aware of this. Post has been modified, thanks for the info.

We charge 1 hr to program, service call during day shift, after 5 pm it is a 4 hour call out at shop labour rates.

Getting Medium Duty Truck Software
Jeff Clyde replied to mchan68's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
We use the IC4 cable as well with no issues with ServiceMaxx. I agree with Alex, better diag capabilities would be nice, but we have been spoiled with IDS. -
Then, if it is ESP, they would have to send an adjuster out to your shop to verify the test results !

That's too bad, I only had him for the 6.7 course as I always went to Ottawa, but we had a really good talk after class the one day, very intelligent man. -
I have kept the intake covers from reman engines, whenever the intake comes off, they go on. The little tabs are great for staying in place.

'03 Intermittent No-Start When Hot
Jeff Clyde replied to mchan68's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Mike, had one a couple of years ago, an 03 with a reman that quit. After a lengthy battle with the truck all I found was that the filter screen under the cooler was getting plugged with what I deemed to be casting sand from the reman process. Often my first step is to install a ford lid and filter; seen way too many weird issues caused by aftermarket filters. Good luck -
have 4 right now for front covers and coolers. don't forget to test your coolers and look at your t-stats

Aaron, call Dave Young. I was there last week and we were the first ones to get the book. He said the original plan was to mail them out, but due to the cost of postage they weren't going to do so. If you have someone from your dealership going soon, Dave will give extra books to give to the others that didn't get them. P.S. Hope things are looking up for you ! -
Everything we do is on the floor. Our shop doesn't even have a hoist; other than the portable 2 posts we use for cab lifts. If it doesn't get done on the floor in the shop, we have a real nice concrete pad outside the shop, and the shoulder of Highway 401 is too bad a spot either. Wish it was that easy to refuse work and still have a job !

I really the days of my drag racing, almost makes me want to buy something again !!
-
we have kits in parts for both styles. i will check tomorrow and let you know the part #'s and where they are from. Atlas/Transbec IIRC
-
Bought mine when they first come out a couple months ago, works great
-
We send the really bad intakes out for cleaning; warranty has never denied one yet
-
I have my own IDS, snap on, and the Auto Enginuity. The Snap On only really comes out now for FIPL sensors on old 7.3's. AE works really good; might have to look into the new Proline connector if it improves Duramax capabilities.
