Hey now you cant make a post like that without some background info bud. Inquiring minds would like to know why your building a long block and cause of failure....

I know a local shop that would be happy to pick it up for 400-500bucks shipping would probably kill the deal though

HP fuel pump banjo fittings?
DieselD replied to cbriggs's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Bruce I beleive what he is saying is he is powering up the hcfm off batttery power and pressurizing the low fuel system to bleed and check the fittings at the injection pump before dropping the cab. This of course would involve having the fuel coolers hooked up. I assume he is taking the coolant lines off and leaving it bolted to the turbo instead of laying the whole unit off to the side on the inner fender like most. -
Fun? Hardly! Here is the first pile..it was enough electronics wiring from the cab to body to make a Lincoln proud! Thankfully it ran so I could turn the boom to lift the cab. I have been running actual time like crazy but im still going to be upside down in this pig

2 6.4s with blown up engines with a possible 3rd on the way. Not just a 6.4 pickup truck, these have overhead cranes/booms on them so getting a cab up is a bitch. Have I mentioned I really really hate my job some days/weeks?

More Worn Rocker Arms
DieselD replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
yep never want to use the word "worn" in your story....instant red flag to ford. -
There are new ops for the cage nuts spinning however its only .9 for all of them so even at that you still come up short. I dont mind pulling on the 6.4 but I think it takes time to make sure its right when your done. I have seen guys slam a cab on quickly without taking the time to line it back up the right way. The result is mismatched body lines and a pissed off customer. I can only imagine this to be worse due to guys knowing they are not going to get paid shit to pull a cab and rush to get it done. I actually prefer when fleet trucks have a bunch of extra wiring and crap that "has" to come out. I can run straight time for all that bs and make up what ford bends me over for on the rest of the repair.

forgot to update this, I scared the customer away talking about hpop and/or injector repairs...not sure if that was a good or bad thing? I have enough problem child vehicles in my bay(like a 2004 F750 grounding through the ECM/IDM) to not need another one so its probably a good thing.
-
SLTS has dropped on this to 4.3hrs vs the 6.1 it used to be so watch yourself. That seems a little thin to make sure that cab is off and on in a safe manner. I forsee claiming EVERY cage nut being spun on them now....

I agree 100% here and I have had this happened to me as well and was quite insulted they where using my certs for another guy to get paid and "fool" ford. I worked hard for my training and I feel I have earned it and any "perks" that come with it. I have even had rechecks come back under my number and I know I never worked on it. On top of that I have had to fight backflags on stuff flagged under my number and fixed incorrectly by a untrained tech. I was PAYING for someone elses mistakes!!! This is why I keep a close watch on every RO I touch and flag time against.

better question is who the hell was using a half inch extension around the filler neck!? like you guys I have lost more then I can count. I have spent an hour before tracking down lost sockets Ive dropped. I have found a few but typically its just a cheapy china tool. Its one thing if I loose it myself. Its another if I loan it and that dude looses it. Better yet my foreman that loves to borrow tools. expensive ones...He lost my trailer plug tester which was the final straw.

I have to wonder if these guys are just looking from something to talk about and over think. With the craze of internet forums it always seems someone is looking for internet fame. I have had a couple issues installing the grey cmp with a stall or no start but its always been related to the connector on the wire harness having a pin fit issue. replacing it takes care of it. A couple red flags pop up here with this guy. One he is using a aftermarket scan tool, are we sure there is not a flaw in its programming? sorta like when we have the false codes? I remember cyl 8 failing the contribution test quite often even on perfect running trucks. I also remember having to run that test multiple times to get a average reading and even at that I would double check with another method to conferm

Sounds like a hair brain idea from a mangement/owner team that does not have much common sense. Its one thing keeping a sales lot or quick lane open on a sunday, Its another to expect the whole dealer to show up on a sun. I hate working on saturdays, and even at that its a half day once a month. It just ruins the whole weekend it seems.

See I love the challenge of figuring out that hard to find issue no one else can but when it comes down to the flat rate way of life you end up stuck with the short end of the stick on those type of jobs. I already take on a similar role to working foreman(more so when our foreman is off or there are 6.0 issues abound) but without the pay scale to go with it. Its a sad reality when that motive directs your actions on the job. It might just be my area here in the states that dictates that positions pay, I know its not just my dealer either and cant understand it myself. I am by no means complaining about my way of life, I do love my career and leaving ford will not/is not a easy choice or taken lightly. I am not one of those guys to jump ship when the going gets tough. I put 100% into whatever I do but I do question what the future holds for me as a technician. I know I want more out of it then just "the guy that fixes trucks" and wondering if that can ever happen if I stay with ford. Dont even get me started on warranty however my biggest rant is how many people can affect your paycheck. Warranty clerk jerking you around with backflags and telling you what you can and cannot claim when they obviously have no clue what it involves or what the WSM states. Management getting involved and using the excuse "take care of the customer" to not pay me for whatever I might be doing that they should be taking care of the customer and insuring I am taken care of as well. AND FORD themselves and their awesome SLTS rates! yep thats enough bitching for one sunday morning! Keith Thanks, I find DTS to be a awesome place and glad I stumbled across way back when which seems like forever ago. Its been a great place to bs, bounce ideas off your guys for that problem child truck, help others with their problem child, and just a flat out great resource. I will be sticking around no matter what

Its a sad fact of life it seems that is becoming more and more common. If a dealer cant treat a good tech right they eventually wise up and go somewhere else. Its a harsh business. Now funny you posted this as I myself am on the fence with a career change, well not a career change but rather a job change to get out of the dealer life. I might be having a opportunity open up that would allow me to advance my skills and end up in more of a management role but it wont be a a dealership. The thing that drives me nuts about where I am at now in my career is I am at the top. Its funny you try so hard to be the best and the top of what you do when you finally get there your left wanting more. I can not advance any further as a tech. Obviously I have done all my training, I work on damn near anything that rolls in the door from a focus to a F750. Do I know it all? of course not! but I think we all have blinders on when working at a dealer. We tend to get in our groove working on what we know best since thats where we flag our most hours. I feel I miss out on the chance to take on something out of the norm as Im afraid of it hurting my paycheck too much. I have turned down both a foreman job as well as a advisor simply because they pay was not there. I dont mind taking a cut to get going in the right direction for advancement but I cant afford a 50% pay cut to do a job with more responsibility, stress, and hours. Thats how every dealer I have worked at is run. If you look at who those guys are in a dealership its 9 times out of 10 burnt out, crippled, techs that cant cut the mustard that are in those positions. To them its a pay raise. If you pay a guy that way you get equal performance out of him, they are not going to be a "go getter" For me I need to decide if I stick around my dealer turning a wrench for the rest of my life. Its the best dealer I have worked at and its hard for me to just walk away. Not to mention all the hours I have invested in training etc. Sure they have their flaws and issues just like every other dealer out there but they have treated me right for the most part. I honestly dont see a chance for me to move up and out of that, sure it might happen one day but when? after its too late to have another choice? What I am looking at is a job away from the dealer that still allows me to use my skills. I have been offered a position at OTR/Mining tire company managing a fleet of service trucks which include about 150+ trucks that are mostly Fords. I would still be involved in repairs but on a smaller scale, would have my own service truck to work out of for field work/welding etc. I would be putting a maintenance plan together and "approved" locations for service work. Any and all repairs done outside would go through me first. I would be involved in building/outfitting new trucks to replace retired ones. It would be a chance to still use my skills and learn something new, the best part is it pays about the same as my average yearly at my dealer with a opportunity to advance in the future So how does keith feel about us Ford guys giving up on dealers and sticking around DTS?

have an 07 e350ambulance with bent valve.
DieselD replied to gtech's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
oh yeah, It will be warranty for sure. Thats one of those kinda of jobs ford will turn a blind eye to due to it being a ambo and just pay the claim -
sorry for the lousy pictures but they are from my phone which I had to post via my phone as our firewall blocks photohosting anywhere. There used to be instructions floating around somewhere I thought which I came across after I built mine. I remember rotunda wanting like 1500bucks for this same thing back in the day. In short you get both male and female 60pin connectors(your main engine harness connector on driverside valve cover) you take all the injector wires and run them to your switches mounted in your box and all other wires that pass through the 60pin you loop back on itself. Really all you are doing in plugging your "switch box" inline of the engine harness so you can flip the switch and kill one injector at a time.

The 6.7 post test and hands on was stupid easy, maybe its because I already have a basic understanding on how things work with it. I had not worked on a 6.7 or had a piror knowledge of one when I took the class. I really dont know how you can fail a ford class unless you dont show up everyday.

check the lines at the hydro(the ones you pop off for cab removal) I had one similar came in after someone else pulled the cab. The lines where installed backwards causing all kinds of wacky issues.

build your own cancel box. I did mine for next to zero cost. The biggest trick was finding both 60pin connectors but its really as simple as conencting some wires and adding switches. It has saved my ass more times then I can count

Good example of being aware of how your paid. I learned to do the very same thing years ago and document all my times I claim. Most techs in the shop think Im nuts but I know exactly how much Im getting paid and honestly I get screwed less because of it. My management knowns they can not pull a fast one on me and if I get a backflag it better be for a good reason because I will question it. I have a drawer in my toolbox just for paperwork and copys of ROs for about the past month. I had a similar experence as dwayne and once they found out I was on to their little scam I got canned

Last time I was after one of those I had to get the whole cover as well.....

back from the dead..... I now have a active code 333 getting set when hot under load/up a hill at WOT. Been around the block on railplugs/standtubes, little icp dummy plug, swapped ipr, icp and connector. oil change etc. I can watch actual ICP steady drop when WOT until it sets the light when no other conditions are changing. Truck runs great and cant really notice a power loss... I was leaning towards a HPOP causing the issue and from the sounds of it that might be it

I agree with keith that that is a pretty shit way of looking at it. Yes being thankful for having a steady job for that long is a great thing but I would expect an employee that values their employees espessially long term ones at least reconize them for it. I wouldnt expect anything but a thankyou and a handshake from my boss and maybe dealer principle. Its the thought that counts not any "gift" they may or may not give you. Im standing at my 5 year mark pretty quick and going on 12yr as a tech.
