Here we go Jim. Out of all the back yard Mickey Mouse, Butcher, No mind, hacks I get an 04' Truck that originally had an 04' engine in it and now has an 03' engine in it that was done at of all places another Ford dealership within twenty minutes of me. This customer lives in this town and is a local at our local Indy shop. He had it all chipped, studded and pimped and had the EGR pipes welded shut before he blew three pistons out of it. He used to come around here probing for information and I ignored him as much as I could. He settled for this $2500.00 engine because he couldn't afford the Ford reman. Now this piece of shit is not running right and surging and farting and he wants me to look at it. I ran from it like a scared cat with a big ass dog on my ass. What in the hell is a Ford dealership thinking, pulling shit like this off?

Diesel Engine Stands
DwayneGorniak replied to DwayneGorniak's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
How about that Norco stand? Has anyone had a 6.4 or Sick-0 set up on it. Is there lots of room to leeve the turbo's on? And are they top heavy? Trying to determine which one to go for. After what you said Keith, I think I am back to pushing for the OTC stand. -
Diesel Engine Stands
DwayneGorniak replied to DwayneGorniak's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
Jeff, thanks alot for the Norco link. My assistant service manager is going to push for the stand for me. She made a very valid point today. She said that with the amount of parts and labour that ford won't pay for because of the extra work I have to do to repair one of these engines on a stand that doesn't work worth a damn, our dealership would have saved tons more money by buying the proper stand in the first fargin place. Not to mention the fact that the engines sit extremely top heavy on our stand and one big guy cannot handle all that top heavy weight by himself. We always have to get two guys with two big bars in each end of the stand to flip the engines. She can see plain as day that it is dangerous. Our service manager has been there for over twenty years and cares only about buying the cheapest damn thing possible. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/icon_crazy.gif At least we have someone in our dealership who can see the light. And Adam, consider yourself lucky. In the last six months, I have been seeing about two bed plate leaks every month. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/puke.gif -
Diesel Engine Stands
DwayneGorniak replied to DwayneGorniak's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
That's the one I have been trying to get this dealership to buy for tha last three years Keith. But they like to do things cheap here. $1600.00 is too much when they can spend $750.00 and let the tech worry about the top heavy engine. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif I have to strip the engine too. If I try turning it over with the intake on, it hits the intake. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif -
What are you guys using out there and how well do they work? Anyone using the OTC? Especially when it comes to flipping these things upside down and doing bed plate and crankshaft jobs. Maybe some pics? We just went from jack stands to one that was made at our local welding shop. What a Biotch to handle. I call it our Home made arm stretcher. http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=384 http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/photopost/showphoto.php?photo=385&cat=500

97 f350 non intercooled
DwayneGorniak replied to DieselJay's topic in Upgrade and Aftermarket Equipment
I know you can get aftermarket intercooler kits for these. I think that is what I would recomend. -
Is the coolant at the proper level? If the level drops below the min line, the coolant will not flow properly to the heater core and as Bruno said: #1 cause is head gaskets or blown EGR cooler.

new CHRA binding
DwayneGorniak replied to eastendpowerstroke's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
They are also doing p!ss poor remans on engines Larry. Man, I have seen some crap from them. I had one cyl head that I had replaced that gave me 0 psi compression in cyl#1. Had a bad valve and seat. It looked like someone took a hammer and a punch to the seat. You could see daylight through it with the valve closed. Now when I pull the heads out of the box, I turn them upside down and spray penetrating oil around the valve to see if it will disapear. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/scratchhead.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif -
I noticed that they say to use that expensive stuff only if the switch has been leaking.

XG-12 Electrical grease is the stuff I use. Good stuff. I have used this electrical grease for years. Prevents oxidation and corrosion of electrical terminals. Looks like KY jelly. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif mmmm gooood stuuuff. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

That works. I drove my Buddy's Hemi 3/4 ton a year and a half ago and pulled my travel trailer with it when my truck was in the bodyshop. I was impressed. Pretty decent on power. Nice truck. You just have to add some truck nuts to it though Larry. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

250/350's have a speed limiter as well. 153km/hr.

Has anyone else replaced a Crankshaft on a 6.4L yet? I had one that came in for an engine oil leak and a belt tensioner that was ready to jump out of the engine compartment. The tensioner was rattling that bad. Any way, the crankshaft was bent. The front snout had a runout of .004" at the front crank seal surface and the max spec is .002". It cracked the front oil pump cover which is what the oil leak was and stretched the belt. Here is my issue: Crankshaft replacement pays 6007B4 13.9 hours plus Cab R&I 6007B 6.1 hours. Bed plate reseal pays 6007B38 12.9 hours and does not include engine R&I, plus the cab R&I of 6007B 6.1 hours. What are they smoking? I am filing for a request for review of this. I want to know what some your opinions are and I was wondering if some of you guys are going to file a claim for review of the times. I think that it would have a better chance of being reviewed if more than just one request is put in.

Gee, next thing you know, they will have us demagnetizing the whole vehicle like they mention in the compass section of the service manual. David, you should have asked the FSE if the compass itself could have caused the signals to get confused on what direction they are supposed to go. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/icon_crazy.gif

All F-450's have that speed limiter. Tell your customer to buy a sports car, not a work truck if he wants to go that fast. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

Hmmmm, four inch, six inch, and eight inch cock pumps (lift kits) with fake nuts. Boy if that isn't compensation for a lack of something, Hugh? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/scratchhead.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/icon_crazy.gif I don't really care anyway. I just shake my head and laugh.

The plugged egr cooler test?
DwayneGorniak replied to Mekanik's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Guys, be careful with removing the EGR valve and firing it up. I do it my self, but only when the engine is hot. These engines don't like to start when they are dead cold with the valve out and that is when you suck the carbon into the valves. Compression is low when cold. But everyone I have done has started in the end a nd cleared up. So James, if you want to screw with your coworkers minds, tell them to try it cold and see if their cooler is plugged then. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/hahaha.gif -
Yeah, what Jim said. I agree totally. Maybe the cost of manufacturing will come down after they cut their labour costs and then reflect on the build prices of vehicles. Man, I can only imagine what it would be like to make $65.00/hr. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif

We deal with that as flat rate techs all the time Larry. We used to get paid 5 hours to do an EGR cooler hose, now we get 1 hour. Not to mention all the TSB's that cut our throats.

I just read it myself. His licensce plate on his vehicle should say: I D 10 T. I think that all the dealerships in Ontario should send all the recalls to the hero. Let's see him do those for a whole month in a snow storm without anyone else bringing them into the shop for him. Freekin Jackass! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif

That's a friggin awsome idea! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif I liked it so much that after I read this post, I went and pulled our tester off the shelf and blew the dust off it. I use it for 7.3L injectors, but now I,m gonna rig it up for working on these Sick-0's. And tonight I am gonna solute you many times over for making the light bulb come on! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/drinkingdude.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cheers.gif
