  1. That's what we asked ford but then they asked for maintenance records and when the customer could not provide them ford denied warranty claim.
  2. If oil is not overfilled with coolant then i would test the horizontal cooler
  3. I don't know if anyone has had any problems yet but be careful how you explain why the rockers were replaced. We had two kicked back because the tech said that the tips were worn. Ford says they don't cover worn parts. Our reply was the rockers shouldn't wear this quickly even if the truck idles. We joke in the shop that rockers should be replaced every 30,000 miles.
  4. Lifting 6.4 cabs is an everyday activity for me so it does not bother me to lift the cab. Plus exhaust bolts have been alot stubborn lately.
  5. The 6.4 is the devil. I understand why Ford doesn't want to pay for water contamination but it just sucks for the customer because it isn't their fault either. Diesel attracts water. I believe that the water separator on this truck isn't sufficient enough. We have had insurance companies tell us that they do not pay claims on Ford 6.4 liter diesel engines so that basically leaves the customer stuck with a $10,000 bill on a $70,000 truck that they still owe $50,000 on. The next reprogram that comes out will have a message display that reads THIS ENGINE WILL SELF DESTRUCT IN 10 MINUTES pull over safely.
  6. I have ran into too many stubborn exhaust bolts to attempt it this way.
  7. The truck want allow that to happen from my understanding. When the MIL and wrench come on now the engine goes into derate and eventually says to pull over safely before shutting down.
  8. I charge 5.0 to replace radiator and thermostats with diag. 2.5 for just thermostats 4.0 for just radiator
  9. My shop has replaced about 4 oil coolers for this code. I personally haven't seen the code yet. Now the thermostat code I have seen several times and everytime after the recall had just been performed.
  10. Maybe in your area. But I go weeks working on 6.4 after 6.4. Engine teardown and engine teardown.
  11. The 6.4 is full of major problems. Just when I think I have them figured out another failure occurs that throws me for a loop. I have had owners tell me that they never should of gotten rid of their 6.0L.
  12. I have done both and haven't had the same truck come back in for another headgasket job.
  13. They still won't admit that the radiators are junk. And they should know by now that the radiator was the first failure. The hoses, front cover and egr cooler were the result of the radiator failure.
  14. ^ What he said and I have also seen the EBP sensor cause this as well as the DPF just being clogged. They tell you to perform a manual regen but that usually works 1 out of 100 times in my opinion.
  15. Have you checked for combustion gases entering fuel rail?
  16. I have got into the habit of selling the harness every time I have to remove one.
  17. ^^^^The electric pump is mounted to the fan shroud and kind of a pain if I remember correctly.
  18. That's exactly what the tsb says. No more looking for rust or metal which I believe will come back and bite the dealers in the ass when it gets too expensive for Ford. As for the reusing coolant, our shop does all the time. I have tried upselling coolant flushes during certain repairs but I always get the "you have to drain the coolant anyway" response. They don't seem to understand that draining is not the same as flushing and it makes me and the shop more money.
  19. We already replaced two under this new tsb. We are saying the same thing. Once it gets too expensive for Ford they will start charging them back. Same thing happened with the thermostat/radiator tsb.
  20. ^^^^What he said and also check the connectors on the drivers side for any loose connections.
  21. I pulled about 40 quarts from one that was locked up. Customer complaint was vehicle started running rough and then died. I got in and vehicle barely started and ran extremely rough and would not accelerate. I turned engine off and walked away. When I got back engine was locked up solid. After pushing truck in I found that oil was very high and milky. Degas bottle empty and coolant filled crankcase from front cover cavitation. CAC was so heavy that I needed a second tech to help me pull it out. Four cylinders filled with oil/coolant mix. Luckily for once no rods got bent. So this simple front cover job turned into a nightmare after the engineers from Ford wanted me to tear down and inspect for any damage. Truck was down for a week after all the run around and then customer came in raising hell because he was losing money and I was just about to open my mouth and tell him that if he took the time to look over his vehicle then he would of seen that his coolant level was getting low and all this could be avoided. His vehicle would of just needed a front cover and he would had his vehicle back within a day. But we can't tell the customer to actually take care of the vehicle that he makes a living with.

The truck I worked on last week could of used that overfill detection. Engine was way overfilled that it filled the CAC and got sucked into the intake and locked the engine up. A simple front cover job turned into a messy engine teardown. Customer was angry when he seen his truck tore apart but some of the blame should of went on him as well because if he had paid attention to his truck then he would of noticed that the degas bottle was empty and his oil was sludged up.
  23. ^^^^Usually when I see the EGR valve all clogged up I always check for EGR cooler leak because in my experience more than likely the EGR cooler is leaking and causing the EGR valve to clog.
  24. Kind of a crazy question but is there oil in this engine? I have seen a tech chase his tail for a few hours trying to figure out a no oil pressure concern and didn't even think to check the oil level.
  25. I have seen oil leak from there before twice and gasket replacement fixed it.
