  1. Did one this past week for a P0003 hard fault. No popped fuse but it was lacking power. The gasket had been replaced before when the shortblock was replaced. It had the covering on the wires but it wasn't put on where the wire rubs. There is actually another updated gasket that has the convolute covering the entire wiring now. Before it was just on about half the wiring which would still cause the wire to rub if it wasn't placed properly during installation.
  2. check ebp sensor. I have seen alot of those short out vref.
  3. I make it a habit of spinning the engine over during assembly of cylinders heads and valve train components.
  4. Sounds like a faulty hp fuel pump. Quick test is to get vehicle to operating temp then rev to 2500 rpm for a min or two let it drop to idle and then immediately rev back up to 2500 rpm. If vehicle starts surging then the HPFP is sticking. They usually set the P0088 code but I have had a few with no codes present.
  5. Metal in a fuel cooler of a system that supposed to have almost a zero tolerance for debris is normal? Hahahaha! The things Ford says about this engine is hilarious
  6. Lately the poppers have been getting short blocks because of mushroomed lifters, damaged bores and camshafts.
  7. Yes turbos where still attached. The only thing I removed was the front of the vehicle and bumper and engine mounts
  8. I was able to get one out complete without raising front of cab. Just have to remove engine mounts and roll it out.
  9. Waiter or not I'm not gonna burn myself up working on something that is too hot. I always tell the advisor or manager it has too cool off a bit before I touch it. Unless it's something quick and easy. Oh and customers aren't allowed in my stall. I don't work in front of customers. I tell the advisors they aren't allowed to come into my stall. Most understand but some get their feelings hurt.
  10. I usually find metal in the filter when there is cam damage
  11. I barely seperate them and let the coolant drain out before completely taking them apart. The first left me soaked.
  12. Clean both ends and apply a generous amount of lube to both ends usually does the trick.
  13. Make sure there is no air in the system. I had one where the customer replaced the bottom filter and it kept derating and saying low fuel pressure in message center.
  14. It amazes me how many things are acceptable on this engine. You know things aren't gonna be good when Ford says that a noticeable ticking noise will be heard after the first oil change.
  15. In my experience when they come in with dead misses the push tube is broken in half because of a seized lifter
  16. I wish we could turn down jobs in my shop if we can't lift the cab. We simply have to find ways to fix these trucks.
  17. Head gaskets are very rare but I have seen one pushing coolant out of the bottle.
  18. Before replacing injectors I would make sure Ficm is good cold and hot. You can't really diag injectors if you have a bad ficm.
  19. I believe it's the number one cause of engine meltdown. I have seen several in the past but have seen one in awhile.
  20. I didn't realize people were removing the turbos to do a hp pump. I have always left them on. I have done one with trans out and I would rather pull the cab and if I had to do it in cab then I would definitely pull the turbos out of my way.
  21. I usually replace both sides with the updated parts.
  22. i have an hfcm harness that i plug into the pump and add power and ground and allow to run for a couple of minutes while inspecting the fittings.
  23. I have had success blowing shop air into the fuel tank to help push the fuel up to the filter housing.
