  1. It was on Saturday!! Had a 2010 F-150 lot truck that we had stolen the cluster out of to fix a sold unit, Foreman had forgotten to open a session on the donor truck, so I had to get as-built data to program it....everytime it tried to download it from the network I got an error message - data corrupt. Tried to go into oasis and get it manually and there was only as-built data for the PCM....Monday morning everything worked just fine....THANKS A LOT
  2. Had another one the same week as above where I installed a complete turbo, only to have it come back a week later dumping oil out the exhaust....that one got another center housing!!
  3. I've seen a few where everything looked fine, cleaned it and re-assembled only to find the turbo still sticking. Had one a while back where I replaced the center housing, test drove and released only to have it come back 2 days later with a P0299 and lacking power. Performed all my tests, contacted hotline and was told to put another center housing in it....cool, put in new center housing and test drove - immediately set a P0234 - overboost condition - now it's sticking wide open!! Called hotline and the guy says "they should have never had you put a second center housing in it, you need to replace the whole turbo, and prior to installing the new turbo I would recommend cleaning it". Apparently enough center housings are fixing these things, that the turbos are hanging out on the shelves too long and rusting....even with all that oil they dump in them?!?!
  4. I've always been of the opinion that if the unison ring is hard to get off the center housing, then it needs a center housing and unison ring, I've tried cleaning them in the past when they were stuck together and this fixed it for a short time, but they always come back with the same issue, maybe your unison ring/center housing are sticking together again?
  5. Dunno, I hadn't even noticed the addition of the parts catalog function in the WM, I'm gonna ask my SM about it tomorrow! that would be an awesome function to have!!!!
  6. done it several times in my old car(89 corolla - carburated, only had once where it had too much diesel in it) this time it was my 98 grand cherokee - there was less than 1/8 tank when he picked it up, it was a 38 gallon tank that he filled with 36 gallons of unleaded, so i figured it was a safe bet, dumped a $5 bottle of stp octane booster in with it, didn't have any problems!! and yes like you said -
  7. Are we talking a 6.8L gasser here?!?! Can we say W-O-R-T-H-L-E-S-S?!?!
  8. Talked to my shop foreman today about putting all the cd's on a computer(he said he'd bet there's at least 200 of them in his office!!) CRAZY!! Said we could load them on one of the shop computers...have one shop computer that hardly gets used - has 30gb of free space on the hard drive, we'll be getting them loaded there soon!
  9. About a month ago I had a 6.7L that my dealership "courtesy" delivered for Enterprise Rent-a-Truck come in on the hook shortly after being delivered - odo read 9 miles, enterprise driver had picked it up at the dealer, drove it 1/2 mile up the road and filled it to the top with gasoline, at least he realized his stupidity before he started the truck(or so he says)....drained the tank(into mine and my co-workers tanks - free gas for a week!!) flushed the lines, changed the filters, and sent it on it's way!! been fine so far!
  10. Been seeing a ton of 6.0's lately - all needing injectors or coolers....seems like the last several days they've all been CP!! CHA-CHING!! Which is good since last week I hardly had anything to do and it was all warranty!!
  11. Like Keith, I've always been of the opinion that wheels should be torqued to the proper specs, clean/dry studs, I will anti-seize where the rotor meets the hub/wheel meets the rotor/hub, but never on the lug nuts/studs! Think of it this way. The car you just worked on had a wheel fall off(lug nuts fell off/studs broke) people may be injured/killed in the accident following this event, customer brings lawsuit against dealership/technician, records are subpoenaed, investigation shows other lug nuts to be higher/lower torque than recommended. Workshop manual says XXX LB/FT(Nm), This one releases at YYY LB/FT(Nm), and that one releases at ZZZ LB/FT(Nm), dealership now pays fine, tech now pays fine/jail time. Now what do you do?!?! There are certain things that get torqued EVERY TIME. On my ro's, I always note the torque of safety items(i.e. lug nuts, brake caliper/anchor bolts, seat belts, etc.). If it could kill somebody, it will get torqued, if it is an internal engine component, it will be torqued. Call me anal or obsessive compulsive, but I need to be able to sleep at night!!!! I'm to 'pretty' for jail! I have a wife and children that need me at home.
  12. I was wrong in this statement, I happen to have a 6.4 torn apart and a spare 6.0 ect sensor in my box, they are the same on the sensor side, the pigtail just looks different and has a locking mechanism on it that the 6.0 didn't have, but they will plug into eachother and work! So yes, the 6.0 and 6.4 ect connectors are interchangeable - F65B-14A464-JB would be the correct part number per the 6.4L wiring diagram
  13. The 6.0 and 6.4 ect connectors are NOT the same. According to wiring diagrams on the 6.0 there are no servicable pigtails for this application, also as you stated, none in the pigtail catalog that match....any old harnesses laying around?
  14. Alright, did a quick bit of research, AIR1 DEF 32.5% Urea 67.5% Water Motorcraft DEF (Manufactured by Terra Environmental Technologies) 32.5% Urea 67.5% Water
  15. IIRC the Motorcraft DEF is 67% Water, 33% Urea. If the AIR1 DEF is the same mixture(I believe that it is), then it should do the same job.
  16. Seen this one before!! ALWAYS HILARIOUS because it is so true!!
  17. Excellent comparison Mr. Warman! I love reading your explanations of things!!
  18. Should be 15 psi or better on the low side - lift pumps are common failures on these.
  19. Had one on saturday, did the whole tsb...blah blah blah, replaced the FICM 1half, re-installed - truck won't communicate with FICM pulled FICM back out to check for bent pins - no problems installed test FICM programs fine - contacted prior approval - put new whole FICM in....no problems! Never had this issue before - anybody seen this?!?!
  20. VC-8 is not used with the new ORANGE coolant, there is a new additive - VC-12 IIRC.
  21. I've always assumed it was desired and actual, but have never seen or heard anything definitive. Interesting....
