  1. Seeing ALOT of 6.4's with metal debris in High Pressure Fuel System here!!
  2. I've heard it has to do with the different emissions standards from light duty to medium duty trucks....But I can't say that
  3. what VIN is stored in the pcm/ficm/tcm? does it have the VIN from the '06 the motor was taken from or does it have the VIN from the '99 truck that now posesses said motor?
  4. If the fan clutch isn't engaging fully, it can cause venting also. I've seen several that would vent as a result of this with no "damage" to the cooling system, fan clutch replaced and the venting stops with pressures staying in proper range. Make sure you have a good fan clutch before going any further with headgaskets!
  5. Seen several on the left hand side (lower rear bolt), and 1 on the right hand side (upper rear bolt) was able to extract a couple on the left, and heli coiled one with no issues, customer couldn't leave us the one on the right, so never got to try that side.....looked alot harder to get at though!!
  6. Seen that a few times too!! I personally tried removing the filter from the first napa cap I ever saw......I deemed it "not possible" after fiddling with it for several minutes and went about putting the stock cap/filter back on it.
  7. Seen this several times....Anytime I get a crank no start with an aftermarket cap....it get's a cap and filter!
  8. I work with a guy here that has been running his 7.3L (2002? IIRC) on a 50/50 mix of fuel/used transmission fluid for several years now with no major issues. He has a filtration system in his garage that runs the used fluid through 2 or 3 filters before pumping it into the truck.
  9. Impact gun on every one!! MAPP gas torch for 1 - 2 minutes on head of bolt and then zap it out, don't bother trying this method on the front ones (they will spin EVERY time!!) Pull the headlamps, put some flame directly on the cage nut, then put the customized 22mm wrench on them and zap 'em out!! Cab in air in 60 - 90 minutes!!
  10. Also checking at the HFCM will not show us if the fuel pressure regulator is working properly. I don't know how many times I've had to put a fuel pressure regulator on a truck to bring the fuel pressure into it's proper spec!
  11. I was just thinking the same thing....just barely enough for labor, usually runs $3500 - $4000 for a proper repair as keith stated!
  12. In doing some research online, I've learned that to get electric over hydraulic trailer brakes to work with the 2010 and older TBC modules, you would have to wire 2 brake magnets into the circuit in order to give the TBC module the electronic feedback it is looking for. I knew there was an answer out there somewhere, as I worked with a guy several years ago that dealt with this on another customers truck, and had come up with a way to fix it. It's nice that ford has made the 2011 trucks TBC modules compatible with both electric and electric over hydraulic brake systems. Thanks for all your input!
  13. Complaint: Trailer brakes don't work when stepping on the pedal. Gain is set at 10. Trailer brakes work if manually pressing Brake controller switch. Truck was in my dealership a while back, another tech looked at it and verified everything with the trailer brakes is operating correctly. Customer says the trailer is equipped with "electric" brakes. I'm thinking maybe it's actually equipped with "electric over hydraulic brakes", but haven't been able to look at the trailer yet - I went on a drive with the customer this morning, but they could not leave the truck/trailer as they are taking the trailer to the RV dealer to have some other stuff repaired on it. Any thoughts would be appreciated.
  14. Yeah...now that you mention that, I do recall some LCF's in my past that had that issue.....I just thought I'd mention this one....it has only 6,325 miles on it!
  15. Truck was built on 6-21-2010 (that was a monday). Came to my door making an awful noise in the front. Upon initial inspection I found the belt shredded - wrapped around the harmonic balancer 3 times and the pulley just above the balancer 3 times....not touching any other pulley's. Checked all the pulley's and found the a/c compressor pulley seized - then I noticed the a/c clutch is not attached to the vehicle. Attempted to turn the compressor by hand (with some pliers) - seized. Removed compressor to check for metal debris....LOTS OF SHINY STUFF!! (this is a TXV system now - no orfice tube) checked oil in compressor to fill new one - NO OIL IN COMPRESSOR.......
  16. I'm in California...."LAND OF THE FRUITS AND NUTS", and I've never heard of anyone being fined for this....
  17. I'm currently doing a short block, but a local dealer happened to have one in stock, so I've got one of the 'old' non enhanced versions.... 18. Had my first 6.7L in the other day, CEL on - customer is WAITING....First off, I don't know how many times I've told my advisors - WAITING is not an option on a truck with CEL - it's never an 'easy' fix!! Guy wanted an oil change and fuel filters while it was there....So I pull codes - P0299, check oasis and there's an SSM for wastegate adjustment/check - performed check - starts moving at 12"HG - needs adjustment - so I go to get upper intake gaskets on order and filters for services. So I go out and change the fuel filters, drain oil and change filter, fill oil, and then advisor comes looking for some answers on the truck....So I get distracted and leave the Oil fill cap off, and leave a couple wrenches on the cowl....I totally forgot about, advisor took truck back around for customer, a few minutes later I'm cleaning stuff up and realize I'm missing these 2 wrenches - realize where they were - look out front - trucks gone. Tell advisor my wrenches are on the cowl - so he calls the customer - leaves a message....customer calls back - and is pissed 'cause the oil fill cap is left off. I got one wrench back, but now customer is taking truck to another dealer to have wastegate adjustment done.....
  19. yeah, we had one of them too.....funny thing on that one is that it's still the same part number....just not covered on '07 and newer!
  20. SHHHHHHH Don't tell anybody...... That'll be the next message!!
  21. Quote: August 23, 2010 To: All Ford and Lincoln Mercury Dealers Subject: Change to Service Part Number for Exhaust Mounted EGT Sensor and Clarification of Warranty Coverage The purpose of this communication is to inform all dealers of the service part number change for the diesel engine exhaust mounted Exhaust Gas Temperature (EGT) Sensor and explain the warranty coverage for this part. BACKGROUND Base part number 12B591 is identified as the engine mounted EGT Sensor; the same base part number was also used for the exhaust mounted EGT Sensor. Since the exhaust mounted EGT sensor is not covered under the Diesel Engine Warranty (5/100), it is necessary to re-issue the exhaust mounted EGT sensor with a different base number (new base number will be 5J213). ENGINES & MODEL YEARS AFFECTED This part number change will affect the following engines: 6.4L Diesel – 2008 & 2010 MY 6.7L Diesel – 2011 & newer MY 4.5L Diesel – 2008 & 2009 MY WARRANTY COVERAGE The following summarizes the warranty coverage as it applies to these two parts. Base number 12B591 (engine mounted EGT sensor) coverage has not changed: Bumper-to-Bumper – 3 years or 36,000 miles Diesel Engine Warranty – 5 years or 100,000 miles Emissions Warranty (Diesel engine) varies – please refer to the 2010 Parts Coverage Directory for complete coverage details New base number 5J213 (exhaust mounted EGT sensor) coverage as follows: Bumper-to-Bumper – 3 years or 36,000 miles Emissions Warranty (Diesel engine) 2008 – 2011 Light Trucks (6.4L & 6.7L) w/GVW Less Than 14,000 lbs: Federal coverage - 5 years or 50,000 miles 2008 – 2011 Light Trucks (6.4L & 6.7L) w/GVW Greater Than 14,000 lbs: Federal coverage – 5 years or 50,000 miles California coverage – 5 years or 100,000 miles 2008 LCF (4.5L): Federal & California coverage – 5 years or 100,000 miles 2009 LCF (4.5L): Federal coverage – 5 years or 50,000 miles California coverage – 5 years or 100,000 miles PARTS REPLACEMENT & ORDERING The new service part (5J213) should begin to be available in early September. The parts ordering catalog will be updated to reflect the new service numbers for the exhaust mounted EGT Sensors. Please advise your technicians and parts department, the engineering base number stamped on the EXHAUST MOUNTED EGT Sensor is 12B591, but the service base part number in the parts ordering catalog is 5J213. Engineering and Service base numbers are frequently different - the service base number should always be used to determine warranty coverage. NOTE: The part numbers for the engine mounted EGT Sensors are not affected. PARTS COVERAGE TOOL & PARTS COVERAGE DIRECTORY UPDATE This coverage will reflect automatically in the Parts Coverage tool on OASIS. The change will also be updated in the next revision of the Parts Coverage Directory scheduled for January 2011. QUESTIONS Questions related to the Warranty coverage should be directed to the Warranty Assistance Team via Dealers Ask Ford on FMCDealer. Questions related to parts ordering and availability should be directed to (PACO) Parts Assistance Center On-line. It's Illegal to "take back" what was said to be under warranty, but if we make up a NEW part number.....nobody will ever know!!!! wahahahaha
