  1. All diesels are now being smogged in California, tampered with = fail = can't register - everyone's 'returning' their vehicles to stock emissions long enough to get them smogged, and then putting the ILLEGAL crap back on them....
  2. Got this question in an e-mail from a friend, e-mailed him back to see if it's a 3.0 or 4.0, so I don't know that yet, haven't had a chance to do any research on it, but thought I'd see if any of you have seen anything like this? Quote: I drive an automatic 1995 Ford Ranger V-6. Whenever I turn on the AC or Heater my truck will accelerate up to 10 mph if my foot is not on the break. This happens about every 5 seconds while either the AC or Heater is running.
  3. spray with pb blast, let sit for 5-10 min, using glow plug tool and a medium sized prybar can usually get them popped, there are still "those ones" that won't budge with this method, but most come out this way. If I get a chance I'll take a picture to illustrate this better.
  4. +1 on the pump, in my experience with these, a leak in the system usually gets pressure building around 300 psi, and when the pump is junk it's usually around 200 psi, just something I've noticed in my time
  5. stand at the right side fender (use step stool as necessary), grip belt with left hand and pull, use right hand to reach down and push holding clip in place, and now belt is loose to remove as necessary - just replaced a tensioner and belt on one of these in 15 minutes today....nice getting paid 2 hours for 15 minutes work....plus the customer gave me a tip for staying late to do it!!
  6. And I thought they only did that in California!! LOL
  7. I've got one out with the VDR on it right now that has an intermittent no start, another tech at the dealer checked it out and changed some parts?!?! Not sure how in depth he got as he is one known for throwing parts, my manager told our advisor to be careful with what diag stuff he's given....anywho....maybe this will be something I can look at on that one.
  8. Was this an intermittent problem or was it consistently duplicable?
  9. I've never done a branch tube on the old style, but done several newer ones, I believe they are the same on both though... Can be done without removing heads, USE A LOCKING 1/4" drive extension with your socket when removing the bolts from either side, you have to remove ALL the pushrods that are behind the branch tube or it won't come out (ask me how I know). You'll need a helper when putting the new one in.
  10. That's correct because workshop has you checking fuel pressure at the back of the heads on an E-van, but if you're checking at the secondary fuel filter like on an F-series, the proper pressure is still >= 45 psi at WOT. I cannot emphasize using the supplied 6.0L Diesel Fuel Flow Tester (310-193) enough, it's so quick and easy to set up, and gives you accurate readings, and allows you to see WOT pressures without having to put a load on the engine!!
  11. Use it all the time!! Quicker to pull the turbos in cab than yank the cab most of the time!!
  12. Have also serviced several of these with no problems.
  13. I've seen this several times, usually on the early builds - 03/04.
  14. The imports have been using these style "crush" fittings on their lines for years....We don't replace the lines on them when we do injectors....That being said, since (in their infinite wisdom) says to replace them, and I being flat rate (read "don't want to do it again for free") will replace the line each and every time I remove it!! (except the couple times I've pulled one of the fuel rails in cab to replace a rocker assembly and re-used the supply line from the HPP) IMO If it crushes once using the proper torque specs, It will crush a couple more times if you loosen it up and use the same torque spec again....
  15. IIRC they list it in SLTS now under "enhanced shortblock" and the time was around 20 hours, plus the r&r cab time....
  16. Was wondering the same thing.....Please....Do Tell!!
  17. This is how I understood it also from our instructor at 6.7 training.
  18. TSB 10-22-09 refers to an exhaust leak at the EGR inlet for a P132B. There was a message with a procedure for wastegate adjustment on vehicles from a certain build date, but I can't seem to find that one. Run your VIN in oasis with the codes you're getting and see what messages pop up, this is always a great resource, especially on these new beasts!!
  19. Was the intake THOROUGHLY cleaned when replacing the coolers. I've seen trucks with so much carbon in them it was ridiculous! I usually set the intake in our parts washer for a couple hours and then take it back and hit it with the pressure washer to make sure all the carbon is blown out. almost looks like a new manifold!
  20. One of our other techs has one in that's running rough.... I'll keep you updated.
