  1. They make you run the three regens and borescope it now when getting prior approval for a new SCR if the tailpipe is clean.
  2. Matt suggested the IPR. Did that get done? There is no mention of you doing it. Seems the most logical choice now.
  3. Thanks a lot.... Now I have that song stuck in my head....
  4. Doing my first one now. First thing to note: remove the fuel filter and holder, remove the EPB sensor tube, rotate the upper intake clockwise until it clears the vapor seperator and it will come out fairly easy. Second thing: Loosen the Torca clamp and soak it down with penetrating fluid from the top, let it sit for 10-15 and mine slid right out. Didn't even have to remove the inner fender either. Was able to get to Cobra head bracket bolt from under the truck. Third thing: other than the slight weight increase, this was easier to remove than previous models.
  5. Those fittings with the bracket can still leak. They were just a quick fix whilst the one piece fitting was being designed. I would take the fitting apart and have a look at it while you have the cover off.
  6. I have noticed a drop in retail labor times as well. Mitchell used to average 1.6 times what factory warranty times were, now they average 1.1. Your only saving grace is getting enough work to get fast at them. My monthly average has dropped almost 50 hours in the last 10 years thanks to labor times, both retail and warranty. Thing is, unless you go to a small independent shop, it's all flat rate around here. Only thing keeping me here is I have an awesome boss. Going on 20 years with this guy.
  7. 2004 F350, customer diagnosed and supplied turbo.....found MAP sensor hose nipple pulled out of intake, repaired that and road tested, turbo is working fine but it feels like it's dropping off a couple of cylinders on acceleration. 2005 F550 sitting outside for intermittent no start, no FICM sync and CMP sensor circuit codes. Oil leaking from the shutdown valve has soaked the harness, customer knows it needs an engine because we told him that last year, but wants a price to remove the shut down valve and replace the harness......Seems all the crap that no-one wants to fix properly has started working it's way here.... Update: Customer with the turbo gave me the go ahead to diagnose the rough running, #6 and #8 go dead off idle, fuel pressure hovers around 46 PSI. Crankcase pressure went over 20" the first try, disconnected the cold side CAC and it won't get over 2300 RPM and pressure goes up to about 4", smoke stack out the oil filler tube. He might get by with 2 injectors and the turbo he already paid for. Will have to wait till Monday to get an answer though.
  8. Had a couple of those too. First one I found the break and fixed it, second one I didn't bother looking and just over-layed both wires from the alternator.
  9. If you into the WSM for 08-10 Superduties and follow the cab on procedures, it lists how to do a partial lift. As far as any 6.7L goes I don't think there is anything that would require a partial lift.
  10. You know...the one that replaced the EGR cooler hoses when they changed the system. Basic listed in the WSM doesn't seem to work for parts and the hose can't be found in any listing they have. Anyone know a part number?
  11. The low side reading seems low while the high side seems normal/low. The course material I have from Ford School suggests A/C suction line partially restricted or plugged. What is the compressor cycle time?
  12. We had one in with similar concern, turned out to be the MAF sensor wires where damaged and a voltage was being induced by the positive cable off the alternator. Just a thought.
  13. It's been so long since I looked at a 7.3L, but is there an RPM desired PID you could look at to verify it's being governed?
  14. What he said^^^^^^. You can overlay to test, but once the damage starts you can't stop it and you will have more issues down the road if you don't change it.
  15. They look like they might fit, and make the bends with enough oil pressure pushing them. I doubt they came from the VGT. the filter screen is right there, no way they could get back up past it. I am starting to think they may have fallen into the oil cooler cover during the last repair, also found a pen light sitting in the fan shroud.
  16. I have done a branch tube on an E-series. Left the body on and pulled the tranny. If you use the procedure in the book and remove only the pushrods required it's not bad. Didn't even need a second person to help.
  17. I didn't think you could get the 3 bolt design anymore. We have always replaced them with the new 2 bolt design.
  18. The tube holder is for size reference. I thought at first it came from an injector, but shot that theory down for a few reasons. It's aluminium, there is no spring in the injector and it would have to get through the oil pump. I have taken apart a few oil cooler covers and never seen anything like that in them. Any ideas on where it came from? Edit: Now that I have the pedestal off the two bolt I thought were broken are just missing.
  19. It gets better. Two off the turbo pedestal bolts are broken and I found this in the turbo oil feed port.
  20. They approved the cooler and all injectors. Most of the card lock truck stations here have DEF bulk pumps that look like diesel pumps.
  21. Has anyone had any experience with 6L that have had DEF run through the injectors. I had a 2004 F450 come in 2 weeks ago for lacks power and smoke. P1335 present. They stated they filled it with DEF but don't know if it was run. They also stated it had the tank cleaned and lines flushed with new filters. After replacing the EGR valve and checking oil cooler performance it was running good. Informed customer of other issues that cause EGR valve fouling and they took the truck. 2500 KMS later its back with the EGR valve fouled up again, coolant is low and there seems to be some coolant residue on the EGR valve as well. Going to quote an EGR cooler because it's obviously plugging up as well and possibly leaking. Not sure if I should quote injectors because of the DEF issue. Any thoughts or experience will be appreciated.
  22. I am allowed to laugh and poke fun at this because I have done that myself.
  23. I think they were told by the county to remove them, they are gone now.
