That A/C compressor looks awfully far away from the engine than I remember. But then again, I could be confusing this with an '06 Explorer 4.6L 3-valve engine too, which usually break the stud on cylinder #1 (which is also the hardest one to access too of course).

I actually like the new format. I even like how part numbers in exploded view diagrams are now clickable to give you the full part number as I understand it. NOW, I'm just trying to figure out what USER-ID and log-in I need to be able to access it. For me, this would be a very handy time-saver when trying to order parts, instead of waiting for the parts guys who aren't so up to speed to look them up.

Funny you should post this. You just made me remember ONE rear wheel bearing I did on an Escape. The one I did was a FWD if I recall correctly, so thank God I didn't have to deal with having to pull the rear axle out. And yeah Matt, I know exactly what you mean about the '02 and up Explorers. THOSE are a lot of fun. I'm always on pins and needles when I'm pressing one of those puppies out on our press. You guys would be amazed at the lbs. of force showing on the gauge before it finally KABOOMS to let go!!! Edges and MKXs are another one of my favourites. BTW, nice writeup Brad. Would you care to share the tool number of that Hub Tamer?

Blow coolant from degas cap
mchan68 replied to Jonathan302's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I don't envy you one bit John. Are they all 6.4L trucks? And since you're in "la belle province", parlez-vous Francais? I was just in Montreal this Christmas that just passed, and I don't recall seeing too many diesel powered Ford trucks. It seems that you Quebecers are not too into diesels. -
2004 6.0 low base oil pressure

Please keep us informed on what parts in total need to be replaced for this "band aid". I'm very interested to see the outcome of this. -

Does this truck have one of those coolant control valves by any chance? Is it functioning properly? Just throwing ideas out there.

Read the workshop manual. Four banger Fusions and Escapes use that same setup too.

Not sure where to post this, so I thought I'd start another thread. I think this one tops the customers asking me if I know how to drive a manual transmission equipped vehicle before going on a road test with them. Just last week, I went to retrieve a vehicle to bring into the shop, when a woman in a 2011 (or 2012?) Explorer flagged me down to ask me a question. She pointed to her instrument cluster to ask me, "What are all these lights on, on the dash staying on for? I just paid a lot of money having my car here for them to let me have it back like THIS". I paused, and looked for a minute a the cluster and noticed the tach indicated 0 RPMs. I then asked, "Is the vehicle even running?" She then proceeded to start the engine, and once the engine came to life and all warning indicators proved out, I just walked away. The point of this whole post? First off, a 2011 or 2012 vehicle with only 7,000 kms. couldn't have needed any type of customer pay service beyond that of just a "dump and fill" oil change, which would've come out to tops $40.00, so I sure as hell don't get where she came up with the "I just paid a lot of money" part. Secondly, it's amazing how quickly people are to jump the gun and blame US for their ignorance and stupidity before wasting our time and asking dumb questions. DUMB FUCKING BLONDE!!!

Lately, I've been copping a REAL attitude with asshole situations where vehicles are brought in, with the expectation by the customer that the job will be covered under warranty. I have been playing the NO PAY NO PLAY attitude where I'm being asked to road test a vehicle to duplicate a particular symptom (that I believe to be caused by customer stupidity), or where I'm asked to disassemble an engine to a particular point in order to find the "root cause" of a failure. In the latter of the two situations, I won't even open the hood unless I get some kind of SATISFACTORY confirmation that I will be paid, regardless of the end result of the repair.

Oh I never said they won't last. It's just that to make them last, $$$ has to be put into them. And yeah, I too have already seen my fair share of high mileage 6.0s on the road lately. One that had 250,000kms. WITH THE ORIGINAL EGR COOLER (orange hose), hard as it is to believe. I think it's more that we just don't hear of the ones that are on the road without problems because the owners aren't complaining, but then again, why would they?

Oh boy, Jimbo is going to be all over this one.

Metal Oil Pan For 2012

Wow, Ford is really taking a step backwards. Does this mean we are going to be doing more warranty pan re-seals as these things go up in mileage? -

HPFP fitting leak testing
mchan68 replied to Brad Clayton's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Nice post Brad. Do you actually crank the engine over with the cab in the air too? I have the exact same jumper harness setup as you've rigged up. I also have one for 6.7s too, after changing fuel filters. -
And these are the kind of guys I don't like. They will shortcut every procedure there is that they can get away with (which I am very open minded to, IF it doesn't compromise the quality of the repair). BUT, when shit hits the fan, they duck out of responsibility. Case in point, just recently I had an '04 F-150 that a guy brought to me, to diagnose an issue with the ABS light and red brake light on all the time. This one gave me a hard to time to diagnose because the two main powers and grounds checked out "good" with the DVOM. After a double-checking and triple-checking was when I found the voltage reading low on one of the main power circuits. It wasn't until I was able to access and almost completely tear open the main harness between the main bulkhead connector to the ABS module and the smart junction box that I found the green death on the circuit in question, directly below the driver side wiper cowling. After repairing successfully, life was good for about a month. This was when I got a call from the owner informing me his front wheels wouldn't engage when he selected 4 x 4. Apparently this was noticed shortly after repairing his ABS issue successfully. Since he was kind enough not to use the words "ever since you ....." , I took the vehicle back and looked into it, where I checked to see if I had left any vacuum hoses disconnected during the time I was attempting to pinpoint the source of the open circuit. Long story short, it turned out his IWE solenoid had failed so I replaced it, and he gladly paid me for the labour and parts to repair without a fuss. The point being, had it been something I had done wrong to cause the issue, I wouldn't have charged him a penny.

I guess that explains what happened to me.

7.3 to replace 6.0 swap
mchan68 replied to BrunoWilimek's topic in 6.0L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
Stupid question. But why doesn't he just search for a 7.3L Excursion and be done with it? Even if the only ones he can find have too high an asking price, it can't even possibly come close to how high an expense it would be to retrofit a 7.3L into a newer model year Excursion. Then, what about the emissions legality aspect of doing such a swap of an older powerplant into a newer model year body? -
Well, it was many moons ago before I had one of these beauties on an old body style. But yes, I agree that those DMF units were total GARBAGE!!! And 5.6 to 6 hours does sound about right.

Broken rocker arms and no oil flow......

You mean you ran the engine with the cab still in the air and the valve cover off?
