  1. What is it with e-vans having lifters take a dump? the last few engines we have had with lifters getting ate by the cam have been in vans
  2. These actually seem to the norm on the 6.0 performance crowd. http://www.rivercitydiesel.com/index.php...t&Itemid=54
  3. I would say thats some pretty good timing myself! I got to pawn that puppy off! Only reason I got it in the first place is a "claimed" recheck. I love how the force limit power warning is the new check engine light! Everytime it comes on its the same story! "I just had it in for that" They forget there are a shit ton of things that can cause that warning. With this vehicle the first time I had it the DPF was plugged solid from the driver not finishing the regen cycle. Now its a misfire. Yep thats a recheck alright!
  4. Last one I had that looked like that has a banks six gun installed and a rod hanging out of the block
  5. I have one that just came in with a hard misfire and the typical skip in compression when cranking. The 11b23 was done about a month ago and I heard the tell tale noisy rocker arms and said to myself, "boy that sounds great lets take bets on how long that lasts" So now its here with a dead miss and I dont hear that pesky rocker rattle as now its probably dead. The force limit power is alot different then it used to be on the old cal. It has just enough power to get rolling but wont drive more then 20mph.
  6. I partially agree but it could be years before the next gen scan tool hits our bays...I have held out for a VCM for quite some time but my new job venture is going to require one which is why I did it now. Its much cheaper to buy while still employed by a dealer. If if support was to stop tomorrow it is still very useful for 94ish to 2012 MY vehicles. I see support for the VCM lasting at least another couple years worst case but in this biz its anybodys guess....
  7. oh god dont get me started on that mess and this pos called windows 7...All I can say is I love my Mac.... I just dropped $2100bucks after tax and shipping for a VCM now I need to find a laptop to use. Im dreading buying a PC again but it probably the best option for IDS use only
  8. Yep I have had the dipstick crack at the mounting bracket causing and oil leak. That was fun tracking down! put some oil dye in it and run it.
  9. Sure sounds like you might have a headgasket issue happening. Whats the inside of your intake look like? coked up? I have seen very small leaks at the front of the egr cooler cause a coking problem to build up within the intake and front side of the EGR cooler. You can usually tell by the type of coking. Little dry chucks with a greyish tint to them. You might need to take the cooler out and block if off and pressure test it. The oil cooler gets changed as it ends up being a pretty big player in EGR cooler failures. Hell we where doing this way before the TSB came out telling us to do so. They plug up pretty quick with poor coolant service/debris/casting maternial etc. bullet proof makes very nice products and their coolers are pretty slick but you still need to make sure you get the root cause of the egr cooler failure first if that happens to be your issue
  10. also was in a hurry when I posted that... here is some more info built date is october of 2010, engine hours are 982 and idle hours are 312 with 35k miles on the clock. This particular vehicle sees alot of dirt...Air filter is a nasty, oil and fuel has been serviced before but looks like a aftermarket oil filter. Working on getting service history now. I didnt find anything foreign in the intake system however the compressor fins have had contact with something. Looks just like it ingested something. Also the thing hardly spins as the bearing are wiped out too. This vehicle had a turbo put on at another dealer for the very same description 7-8k miles ago. I looked the engine over again as I can just get why the valves are cracking. I found that all the cylinders on the left bank have somewhat of a scoring starting almost like its starting to get dusted. #8 is the worst in this case with a large patch of cross hatch missing. Not the "hotline GO no GO gauge) of finger nail grabbing but its sure as hell not good. The FSE was out this morning before I even got a hotline request in. I have a feeling this thing is going customer pay and we are going to have one hell of a fight on our hands....
  11. So seems I have one of these in my bay, #6 is the first one to eat itself but all other exhaust valves on that bank have cracks in them....anything new with the root cause of failure? obviously its getting an engine but I would like to know why the valves are up and cracking on a 35k mile engine
  12. Good thinking! I have always gotten the busted ass ones off with a chisel without too much issue
  13. The best part to that is the particular tech Im thinking of runs a side buiness out of his house repairing diesels. conflict of interest anyone???
  14. I totally agree and one of the biggest reasons I want to get out now while I still can before its too late. Its really sad what this industry has become and I now relize what that grumpy old tech was telling me 12 years ago when I started at a dealer. Just recently we had a well known "hack" come to work for us for more money then anyone in the shop. seriously his bay is a revolving door, hell most of the time they dont even get out of his bay in the first place. somehow he manged to sweet talk a top wage higher then any tech has ever been paid flatrate. I pride myself in being the best of the best and making sure I do my job correctly yet we let guys like this come rolling in and bend over backwards for them??? whats the logic?
  15. Smells like bio and a high percentage at that. pulled codes on the thing, p2291 and no high pressure fuel. on the bright side it has a electric override for the pto system so I can at least lift the stairs out of the way its going to be a long week
  16. If you catch it right away Im sure a pigtail will fix it. However Im sure in many cases before its noticed its traveled all the way up the harness Something to keep an eye on thats for sure
  17. Its a military base vehicle so yeah not driven on the street but still! I wouldnt want to be driving around a airport like that! I can only get the hood up 6-12inches so havent has a chance to even see the engine yet!
  18. I was thinking it was a 8mm but none of my sockets fit it which are all snapons. I will ask around the shop for a cheapo and see if that does the trick
  19. That sounds low for sure The last one I had I was pulling over 50psi KOEO
  20. retarded question...what is the size of the glowplug? I cant for the life of me find the right size socket to get the thing out. Of course the WSM was no help and I dont see a ESST for it It will be interesting finding out what the root cause of this one is. Its a low power misfire/knock with 35k miles. cly 6 has the misfire and low relative. I hear knocking and a thump from the intake so might be one of the famous missing valves. None the less its coming apart but I wanted to get my gauage on it to double check but I cant get the damn glow plug out
  21. What the hell is it with these jacked up body installs on 6.4s!!!!!. Of course its a crankno start and in my bay!
  22. and here I go again! customer is up our ass to get his truck back. Called on my cell phone and putting it to speaker to continue to do other crap in the mean time. This is beyond retarded
  23. I finally got pissed off enough to just hang up after 30mins of waiting. I couldnt stand listening to the same pre recording tsb messages over and over again any longer
  24. YES...I have been on hold for 20mins waiting to get through to get a lousy piror approval for a DPF!!! Truck is finished, customer wants his truck back asap. Yet Im here on hold waiting for "fords blessing"
