  1. What about welding a nut or a bolt to what's left of the bolt? Turn the amps WAAAAAAAAAY up my friend. Welding to cast doesn't generally work all that great...are you using a steel exhaust gasket or a composite?
  2. I see there you say it'll use a 19mm restriction to prevent diesel fuel from being pumped in there. Isn't a gasoline pump nozzle around that size? I can see it now, if it is.....
  3. We've got two. Still got 'em both. They are kind of a cheesy lookin vehicle, in my opinion. Coupled with a gross vehicle weight rating of 5000lbs... With the way the ministry of transportation is around here - guys are gonna get HUNG OUT TO DRY by the MTO for having these things overloaded.
  4. We're never gonna have to take this one apart
  5. http://www.dieselpowermag.com/features/ford/0910dp_ford_6_7l_powerstroke_diesel_engine/index.html Don't like the source, but the pictures are nice!
  6. Definitely, customer always gets a price, if they want one or not - I don't need some guy with $100 to his name giving me an ok-doke to change the oil, fuel filters, rotate the tires, and service the brakes, without first seeing the price 'cause he assume it's less than a hundy.
  7. I routinely sell more work than the service advisors, which is pretty sad. And for the most part, people don't even want a price on the shit. "Oh, that's broke?! Shit, you better fix it!"
  8. ^^^^^ What he said. Be the first 7.3 head gasket failure I've seen though.
  9. It could be any number of things. Is it PUMPING the coolant out of the bottle? Disable the engine (unplug the cam sensor) and crank it over, if it's blowing coolant out during cranking, then i'd say you have a problem. Is it only doing it hot/cold/etc?
  10. I had one that needed something, forget what it was, but it was circled in red pen, highlighted, etc, etc. There was NO missing it on the sheet. Guy gets his workorder and keys, leaves. Comes over to me and shows me the qc-550, and asks me what all the circling in red is all about. All I could do was shake my head.
  11. Extensive durability testing put the new Power Stroke diesel engine through the equivalent of 250,000 miles Is this kinda like the bajillion miles they put on a 6.4 truck without the radiator leaking Good article though, thank you for posting. Just wish the picture was bigger Quote: Unique inboard exhaust and outboard intake architecture, an automotive-industry first for a modern production diesel engine, reduces overall exhaust system volume, which leads to better throttle response for the customer; additionally, reduced exhaust system surface area minimizes heat transfer to the engine compartment and improves NVH (noise, vibration, harshness) Doesn't the Duramax use this technology? Quote: Compatible up to B20 fuel, allowing greener fueling options of up to 20 percent biodiesel and 80 percent petroleum diesel Quote: When at idle, two pilot injection events are used to make the firing process even smoother and aid in quietness This sounds familiar Thanks for the link, dude!
  12. We have an advisor or two that you could tell 'em the car has 3 flat tires, and they'd neglect to mention it to the customer.
  13. I like having to fill one out for free on every vehicle that rolls through my bay. Most of the time the advisor doesn't even bother to mention the fucking defects that are noted to the customer.
  14. I have only ever seen ONE air shutoff on a truck, in Ontario. It was an electrical/hydro truck, with a 6.4 It really surprises me that Union Gas (our local N.G. supplier in Ontario) doesn't have air shutoffs on any of their trucks. And here's a good idea - let's all go stand around the front of an engine that's operating WELL outside it's designed RPM range.
  15. HAH! Or write it on the QC550 and Check it as green. LOL.
  16. At least you don't have to listen to the fan screaming
  17. LOL I can't say as if I'll be far behind.
  18. Been there, too, Mike. Diesel repair and it's "Power windows don't work."
  19. What about temps that reach -30, -40, -50? I would think the best location for this jug would likely be under the hood, with as short of a coolant line as possible to keep it hot. (I didn't watch the seminar - so forgive me if that's where it is located.)
  20. My current favorite is when they just leave the heading for the job - no other information. "CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TROUBLES" "POWER WINDOW TROUBLES" "POWER LOCK TROUBLES" "ENGINE NOISE TROUBLES" Gee, thanks guys!
  21. Those are my favorite. "Customer requests part x be replaced." Replace part, and punt it outside. Customer comes back bitching that his concern isn't fixed. Hey, pal, it says YOU wanted THIS part changed, and that's what I did.
  22. Somethin' to be said about part time employment. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bME2ld1pko0
  23. Glad you got it fixed! Aren't E-series injectors FUUUUUUUUHHHHHN?
  24. Sounds like something that one would retort to a 'Wiener' with I have that thread printed off and in my toolbox, should anyone ever want a copy. I got that sumbitch before they shit-canned it.
