  1. I removed the drivers side eng. mount and the trans mount, the heads came right up-with someone helping me that is . As for the gaskets they are black and dont see a name. They are metal and have four layers. The compression rings are totally wiped. Cyl 3 injector was all milky so it will need cups and the injector o-rings look like they were just getting ready to melt. The oil filter stand pipe is ok . I teed a guage into this truck and let them drive it back in May, it went to 20 especially on upgrades when towing . Three head bolts were pretty loose on bank 1.
  2. I have seen this on town cars. The temp guage will go to H and the red light comes on. You cant restart the car until you unplug the CHT sensor. Some crap gets in the connector, just clean it. with brake clean and make sure the electrodes are making good contact and all good. I dont recall ever seeing a check eng. on these or any codes.
  3. Yeah, im doing studs also. I just pulled the left eng. mount out. Now it apears that i have plenty if room to get the rt. head off.
  4. Doing 6.0 head gaskets. I couldnt get the ypipe bolts loose from the manifolds so i removed the manifolds from the heads. They bolts were so loose, i took them out with a gear wrench. I will just cut the bolts out when the heads are off. Some shop did head gaskets less then a year ago on this.
  5. Id explain to your lovely boss to be aware that the truck may come back for a crank no start or it may happen before the truck leaves tje shop after coolers replacement. All the coolant sludgees up on the injector tips. You will have very little precycle or none at all, problobly no related codes and ficm sync/sync will both read yes. =All 8 injector time. It has happened to me a few times. Have fun
  6. It would be nice if ford would permit techs from outside of dealers ti attend coarses-not just fleet shops.
  7. I need one asap, used or new for the right price.
  8. Econolines are not that bad once you get used to them. Certain things do suck like oil cooler jobs and if you get one that needs head gaskets. There are jobs that are easier to do then fseries like turbos, rear exuast work and FICM's. Actually i once did a turbo on one without taking the front apart-the engine was still warm. I reached around the front of the turbo and loosened the clamps and heater lines, unbolt everything else and right out in just under a half hour.
  9. Yeah especially since your suposed to remove the eng. mount to get bank 1 valvecover off (If you dont want to mangle the valvecover-that is).
  10. It depends. Some are well equiped and somr not so well equiped. Some may be under staffed with a lot of pieces that give their techs twice the work to get done with tight deadlines. It all depends. One good thing though, it's hourly pay and usually there is OT, benifits and good PTO. Some also offer anual tool alowance. Like anything else there are pros and cons.
  11. What about that bar tool with metal sutface cleaner?? I use scotchbright pads by hand for the final clean after carefully scraping the high stuff off with a paint scraper.
  12. I've seen this happen on econolines with 7.3. It happens intermitantly. When it looses power the check eng. lt. Comes on especially on upgrades. Then it will pick up power and the lt. is off and has a p1212. Every time I had one with this symptom I changed the high pressure pump and it fixed it. While in there inspect all connectors, ipr o-rings and icp for oil leaking through it.
  13. WTF! Sucks Even to just check the connnector?
  14. Can somebody tell me where exactly the evaporator temperature sensor is located? I know it's got to be in the evaporator case but im not seeing it, has a P0538 a/c evaporator temperature high and the compressor relay wont activate. I can't locate it in Shopkey. Thanks.
  15. I don't have access to a mig.
  16. For a fair kabor charge.
  17. How many hours is usual to lift a 99 f150 cab? Got one with a totally rotted exuast manifold, the nuts are so rounded out they wont snap even, can't even grip them with my round off socket.
  18. Any indie shop guys ever see this?.....Im replaced the compressor for a leak and now the replacement compressor wont take in freon, i look at the a/c button and the green LED light is flashing. The a/c Amplifier is stand alone and i can't figure how to extract codes from it. Igot another one and the compressor went on with the fan and then shut off and the green LED starts flahing again. I told them to save the core just in case the next one does the same thing and i will just put it back in. What could it be? Possibly a bad clutch lockup sensor or rpm sensor?
  19. What about a timer switch for the accessorie/s, just reset the switchand start the truck for a few minutes to keep the battery charged up, then shut it down. My former/former manager at the ambulance co. was talking about doing that becuase the emt's/medics would leave shit on and walk away in the feild and at the base. It never happened, guess it was'nt in the budget.
  20. I had this a few times and every time it was a bad tooth on the exiter ring. I pull the dif. Speed sensor and turn the dif until I feel a chipped tooth. I found that even the slightest chip can cuase it intermitantly at low speeds, usually under 15mph.
  21. That sticky stuff we were shooting into the explorer and aviator trannies was real nasty stuff, yoy don't want to let it touch your skin. Guys were getting bad rashes from it.
  22. Lots of fun. I had one last week for hub bearings, it was an 05. And yeah it sucks when the front pin falls out and down. Good thing I had all the bolts loose, just pop the lower one out and the pin drops down. The start over. Yeah the spring is fun to connect. I use a craftsman hose seperator hook to pull it across and when I get it just in I whap It good with a slotted screw driver and a small hammer to send it home. Do these In voluum and you will have aches and pains. Then the next day I had another explorer an 03 I think with just rwd. It had a no reverse at times concern and a flashing od light. Fixed the od light -was a very very loose trans. solenoid connector. Then took the rear rotors off and the whole shit fell apart and out. It belongs to a used car lot so they said they're going to put shoes in it. I sure was relieved-though I was sure they were going to.
