In more than twenty years of driving I've needed a spare once but in that flats defense I was 17 and broke and the tire was shot and needed to be replaced long before it went flat. A membership to AAA cost about $40.US a year so I feel that no spare isn't that big a deal. Most people will stop at a gas station and pay $.25-$.50 cents in the air compressor to put air in a tire if they see that it's low and drive it to a repair shop to have it fixed rather than put the spare on anyway. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/2cents.gif

I don't know what's in my bay because unlike Jim I'm not at work, I'm at home on the couch with the family for a long weekend. (wed-sun) but I know I got some old crap waiting for me, 97 F250 no power low fuel pressure and fuel filter housing full of some sort of silt, and a 88 with no brakes. a bad vac pump, and fuel leaks at the injector caps. But I will say that most of the time my days are exact copies of Jims.

I've had them leak after servicing them, but also brand new cars and trucks with the clamps cracked.I got my prep guys in the habit of checking the clamps before delivery.

Please don't take my post wrong I to personally think the LCF is a good truck and for the most part I like them. I do have to take a rare stance and disagree with Bruce on this one I think the 275 will be the lynch pin for the LCF's demise. It's a great concept just poorly executed it has all the problems of the 6.0L and a few unique to it's self and has proved to me to be very unreliable.

I just had one in for the second time with a blown EGR cooler in less than 3k miles(4,800 Kilometers). So I did something I rarely do and used the carpet bombing approach to fix it this time EGR cooler, Oil cooler, ALL the O rings in the HP oil system, and just for good measure a STC fitting. It's had 3 injectors, a round of o rings once before, a ICP sensor, and a water pump pulley explode all at different times with only 16k miles on it. I'm hoping that it may make it till it's due for an oil change before breaking down again but it probably won't.... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif We have a company with 4 and none of the 4 can seem to go 10K with breaking down and are currently negotiating for buyback. I've heard through the grapevine that the other local Ford Medium truck dealer won't even consider taking an order for them anymore. Our Rep claims that "no other dealers anywhere are having any problems with LCF's just us" I don't believe it do you? The rep was just out asking about the 4 going for buyback and I told the him what somebody here said "There like a bad case of herpes, I can't cure them only treat them until the flare up" Anybody got any else to add??

99 Ranger 3.0L Flex Fuel PO171 & 174 codes
eastendpowerstroke replied to ktmlew's topic in All Gasoline Engines
as Bruce said the injectors are different on a FF and if mixed with non FF parts will cause untold issues and would be where I would start looking. base engine wise the 3.0 FF and non FF are the same. What are the O2 sensor voltage readings are they switching or stuck low? and/or possibly damaged by whatever caused the prior engine failure? if there dead volts will be low and LOW is LEAN. Did some hack crush the harness in between the engine and trans?? -
94.5 pid data
eastendpowerstroke replied to kevin phillips's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
The sad thing about learning that IDS will work is that the only truck the wasn't done 10+ years ago has now thanks to Kevin been updated and nobody else will never need this info again. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif -
Just to add one more thing to the mix I've seen the "relief" valve at the secondary housing cause similar problems where it would make enough pressure to look only slightly low in the bay but wouldn't / couldn't keep up on the road.. I'm quite sure that Bruce or Keith have pictures of the valve I'm talking about /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I find it's better to get someone to crank the engine over for you or use a starter button so you can watch the level rise and not overflow the filter housing. just my /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/2cents.gif /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

"Do not remove this plug"
eastendpowerstroke replied to GregH's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I dunno what the plug does, Bruce may have a better idea since I'm more than sure he has at least one 7.3 hp oil pump to take apart.. I have replaced that oring on a truck and had no ill affects so I guess it's hit or miss if you can screw up the pump by removing it? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif EDIT: see told ya Bruce would know /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif Ford states NOT TO REMOVE THE PLUG or the world wiil stop turning and we will all fall off... -

Anybody else ever see a /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif impeccably maintained /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rolleyes.gif 99 or so come in for no power and find the air cleaner element MISSING only to find it sucked into the intake tube/turbo and the plastic post from the cover stuck in the turbo?. what was left of the filter must have weighed about 5 lbs. I wish I had a camera in my box back then, that photo would be priceless -
sweet MD does kinda suck compared to IDS and even CAT ET

Computer decision
eastendpowerstroke replied to Tony302600's topic in Tools, Computers and the Internet
I have two laptops both run IDS flawlessly. one is a 2.4 ghz Compaq with 1 gig ram second is a 500 MHz old ass Toshiba with 256k ram I got for $free$ it runs IDS with no problems at all just a bit slower than the Compaq but it is reliable and truly an expendable computer so I use it more than any other in the shop if it was drooped, run over stolen, etc I wouldn't care. you need pretty much any laptop with XP PRO and at least two(2) usb ports and a serial port if you want/need to use MD truck wit the IC4com. -

Been there done that in 2003, I loved every minute of it Ford really puts of a spread for the SMT cruise. When I was on the cruise I really felt that Ford appreciated us at the front line, all we do and deal with day to day, and was happy to have us, THEN I went back to work to SLTS cuts etc. Don't take it the wrong way I am grateful for the opportunity to go the first time and I was eligible and qualified for the champions contest and would love to go again, but the sad reality is it's just a dog and pony show to make you fell better about all the warranty work your getting when you go home. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crybaby2.gif

First- two weeks ago I had to attempt to save a F-150 spark plug change that was headed way down the wrong path with the guy we'll call tech #1...... /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shocked.gif . well one plug came out OK but 6 broke the tip in the head, got the tool out bam no problem easy got them out tool works great. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbup.gif now lets talk about #8 plug, tech #1 snapped the hex off the plug so off comes the head etc, etc. I figure tech #1 is an older guy and can handle a head gasket job with little interference from me. /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif Comes back leaking oil, I take it just to get it done keep csi up blah, blah so after I find stuff loose,, missing filthy, head gasket folded over, just over all extremely poor workman ship. I pull tech #1 to the side and talk about the above and I get "well I don't think I (tech#1) should be doing this kind of work cause I don't make as much as tech #2 or #3" /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smhair.gif I think I'll wait a few days to see if likes going home at noon cuz theres no more 3k oil changes to do,to see if wants to keep working here! second- One of our hoists is broken and we are replacing it so I figured since it was a bit slow we can take the old one out and move our emissions inspection dyno to free up some much needed space with some better organizing by the guys working in the space not the owner of the dealership sitting in the showroom. So then I overhear super master tech telling tech #1 you shouldn't let them move that dyno closer to your bay ,and I don't know why you guys are moving that lift thats not our job why are you helping out that asshole(the owner)he can pay somebody to do that,I wouldn't help him. Now I want to fire both of them but I gotta clear it with my service manager. and the owner. Am I over reacting? /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif
