  1. We have a Cummins in our one Autocar (read: piece of junk) at work, we should have the filter at work - if yours has it, I can get you a picture and send it over to you along with the part number. Our truck is an 08 though.
  2. How is crank case ventilation handled on that engine?

    Insurance

The funny part is... My insurance is cheaper even parking in a parking lot at an apartment building than it ever was parked in my private garage or driveway Hell, my insurance is now cheaper than it was when I lived in Hay River.

The question I can't stand, is when they ask if you have taken Driver's Ed. Uh, yeah. Like 14-15 years ago when I got my license, and don't ask me for the certificate, because I'm sure it's tucked safely away with my autographed copy of the bible and my collection of antique paintings.
  5. Legalized robbery. Got my renewal. $2116/yr - $176 a month. Called my wife's company. $1109 a year for the remainder of her policy (which is March). $92.41 a month. After March, the policy cost for March 2013 to March 2014 is. Sit down. EIGHT HUNDRED AND SIXTY FOUR DOLLARS, OR 72 FREAKING DOLLARS A MONTH. How is that even possible? A SIXTY percent drop in rate, for changing companies?! We get 15 points off for multi vehicle, and 15 points off for multi driver. That's a difference of 30 percent - so where does the other 30 percent go? Theft...Absolute theft. I switched from Economical to the Co-Operators, for those keeping score at home. $1248 dollar savings a year, just with a phone call. Unreal.
  6. I'd be lockin 'em up before I left the house today.
  7. Should be able to pick one of those up from the HELP rack at Canadian Tire, just a regular vacuum union. I might have one in my toolbox, I will have to look tomorrow, but as you can see it's 5:14 am -- I'm sicker than hell, so it may be tuesday.

    Sleepers

That car used to run around Detroit. Street legend. Hey Mike, shoot me a call some time! We gotta get some beers. I still have my Malibu street pounder, bottom 11's on pump gas all motor, and it gets a camshaft and intake swap in the spring to put it into the 10.90 range.
  9. Sleeper. The art of the deceptively fast automobile. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=96Hv_jRQMv8 This is a four door Fairmont: Now that we have that out of the way. A twin turbo 6.0LS motor, with some internal goodies and two S400 chargers on it... in a 1986 four door Chevy Caprice with a 4L80E, and 3.5" or so exhaust with mufflers to the stock location exit should just blend right into the crowd. Car will have A/C, bench seat, column shift, baby seat in the back seat. Should run 9.0's And nobody will suspect ANYTHING... Project is underway... Larry, I need some turbos.
  10. Negative here, they're all Caterpillar units. Sorry.
  11. Crayons, typically. Apologies for the video quality.
  12. Everyone jumped on you for holding a gauge in your hand with just a nitrile glove on that was reading 4700psi, didn't they?
  13. We used to punch out the DPF's on the trucks at Diavik, because the way the calibration was and the way the mine site was wouldn't allow the trucks to regenerate (speed limit and limited usable roads). They would eventually go into regeneration and stay there, raw fuel would blow out the tailpipe. Every so often, clear codes and do a DPF reset and it would stay out of regeneration for awhile. I suspect if the calibration had allowed the trucks to regenerate at idle in park, they MIGHT still have the filters on them. Everything up there idled 24/7 and the filters would plug up FAST. Again, this is an off road site, although some of the trucks had plates on them because they got delivered (driven) from Kingland to the mine via the winter road, and not by freight. Usually in manual 2 to keep the RPM up so you'd have heat, back when Ford said "don't block the grille with anything." Although, most of the validation stickers were expired. It doesn't see a pressure drop, so it won't realize the DPF is getting clean(er), is my thought. Now the calibration forces a regen every 667mi. Mike - I was actually looking for those pictures the other day, and even looked in the thread. This is the best I can come up with, which I had posted in the original thread: Note the particulate matter coming out of the tailpipe.
  14. I don't disagree with you Keith, but as I said - the usage falls on the end user, not the manufacturer, in my opinion. Ford DOES offer a 'racing vehicle' ( http://www.fordracingparts.com/cobrajet/ -- sexxxyy... And no, it does not come with an on-road title.) however, but at the current price point it's largely unattainable, so turning a factory vehicle into a racing vehicle is sometimes the racer's only option. (I'm talking dedicated race car, trailered to and from the track, etc.). Which, in the spirit of the "not for sale on pollution controlled motor vehicles" statement comes into play. Are people using these products on road? Of course they are. But they are DESIGNED for off road use...as I said before with the handgun analogy - it's usage is determined by the end user, not the manufacturer. Should there be more stringent controls to purchase a product for "off road" usage? Yes, definitely. I don't necessarily feel that the company producing the products should be SOLELY responsible for the product's use. Partially, yes - for having a less than adequate plan to insure the product is used in the manner for which it was intended or marketed, but not solely. That being said, Edge is a subsidiary of MSD products, so a $500,000 fine isn't really going to make a whole lot of an impact.
  15. I THINK we have one of those skid steers at work, I will look today when I go in. I know we have two or three Caterpillar ones, but I think there is one JD machine (and I don't mean Jack Daniels machine, cause that's me) - and if we do have one, we likely have a shop manual for it.
  16. If I recall rightly it should be around 3000, but it has been awhile. I got told if the pump doesn't build pressure quickly/past 5-600psi hooked up as it should be, and you dead head it and it makes pressure almost instantly, the pump is weak/failing. The last one I only dead headed the one side just to see if I was headed in the right direction, and it went from right around 500psi cranking hooked up normally to 1500 almost immediately as soon as it started cranking. Hopefully this helps.
  17. Congratulations! As one of a few members that's actually met Jim and his wife, I can say that they are the most hospitable people I've ever met, super good folks, and I can't get back out there to visit soon enough. And Jim - my door is always open to you guys should you ever find yourself Ontario way. Well, that's the case for pretty much anyone here, as long as you like dogs. LOL.
  18. ^^ What he said. And, as an aside - the door striker in the B-pillar works just fine for opening beer bottles.
  19. Agreed. I equate this to the sale of a gun. If I sell you a gun, all on the up and up, legally - and you hold up a store or shoot some people with it, is that MY fault? I'm sure there's SOME assumption by the manufacturer that this is going to be used on public roads, but at the same time, if a waiver is signed stating that it won't be, I believe the onus falls upon the person signing the waiver, not the manufacturer.
  20. http://www.ebay.com/itm/BUY-1-FREE-1-PROMO-Car-Safty-Seat-Belt-Buckle-Insert-Warning-Alarm-Canceller-X2-/150907334732?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&fits=Year%3A2008|Model%3AF-450+Super+Duty&hash=item2322c7304c&vxp=mtr Really? Don't wear your seatbelt AND open a beer! Awesome!
  21. YES, ITEC is using factory fill Rotella ELC which is Caterpillar EC-1 compliant. I am actually doing a rad swap in my 08 this week and putting Zerex branded EC-1 compliant coolant in it. Seldom see oil cooler failures/plugging on maxxforce engines and they are similar in construction to the plate coolers used in the 6.0 and 6.4
  22. His replies are WAY more grown up than most seen on the aftermarket Powerstroke boards. I'm surprised you haven't been called any names yet, or better yet, told to fuck off. Happens to me on a pretty regular basis. I've been put on permanent vacation on more of those boards than I am still a member of. LOL.
