  2. SSM 47070 - Various Vehicles - Data Link Connector (DLC) Connection - Vehicles Equipped With Gateway Module (GWM) When connecting the Vehicle Communication Module (VCM) and Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) or Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) to the DLC located on the driver side under the steering column at the GWM, make sure that the ignition is off before connecting the VCM. If the ignition is on or the engine is running during the connection, it can result in various warning lights being illuminated with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs), no start or no crank conditions or theIPC inoperative. For Lincoln vehicles, this information is now listed in the Technical Inspection and Post Road Test Sections of ePDI on the PTS website. If a vehicle displays these issues, disconnect the equipment from the DLC and disconnect the vehicle battery. Wait 10 minutes and reinstall with the ignition off. Clear any DTCs present and retest.
  3. Make sure u connect to dlc before turning key on. the dlc is a gateway module. I have also had bad gateway modules that with the well used vcm 2 cable it acts up plug in vcmm and no issues. I talked to my fse about it and he said they are running into it
  4. Looks like we are getting another diesel to work on. http://autoweek.com/article/chicago-auto-show/2019-ford-transit-connect-gets-new-looks-and-diesel-power-chicago
  5. I am wondering what are you planning to use for? I have the shops new vcmm in the cabinet next to my tool box. I have used a scope for checking 6.o crank and cam timing few times and for checking network concerns. I am thinking I have access to this awesome tool I should learn to use it more and take advantage of it.
  6. Good luck on your recovery. Try to enjoy the time with your wife and kid.
  7. Do you know history on this truck? Your cats are junk but why is the bigger question. We have a lot of issues with evap purge valves and on a flex fuel vehicle they wont set codes a lot of times because the pcm just assumes it needs to adjust for different fuel. It would be a good ideal to get the truck reprogramed.
  8. Switching down stream sensors indicate failed cats for sure. On the Uego sensors watch the a/f ratio pids. Just have to remember 14.7 to 1 is ideal. Uego sensor are just air fuel ratio sensors
  9. Ended up finding pin fit issue in BJB causing voltage drop and pcm to stop providing power to starter relay
  10. We have tried many other things that I am not recalling at this time. Truck is a pickup that has had the box removed for a service body install. The concern was happening while awaiting the install. So concern was happening before upfit.
  11. The truck we have this going on is a 17 with under 3k miles and had 6 batteries in it. Concern been ongoing since new. Its good for a little while after batteries put in then back to the concern. Its my coworkers job but I am helping him a lot on it. We have found if charge batteries it starts properly leave the key on to run self tests monitor pids then acts up put jump box on then starts fine. Tried replacing the starter no difference. When the batteries are slightly discharged and concern is acting up we have even put the slightly discharged batteries in like truck and they start that truck fine. We pulled pins out of the bjb put in a different relay and concern is present. (start relay is built in the bjb) The wires from pcm to bjb have been load tested and overlayed and concern still occurs. He has replaced the pcm no difference. The command from pcm to bjb start relay is being interrupted for some reason.
  12. we got a 17 in with starter kicking out after second of trying to start has new batteries and if we use a remote starter it cranks just fine. looked at pids and don't see any reason for pcm to quit the cranking
  13. At my dealer we have both powertrain lifts. The otc 1585a we use more for subframes and fuel tanks. We typically use the otc 5285 for the engine and trans. I just replaced a 1.5 in a fusion earlier this week and lucked out. No one else was using either lift so I was able to leave subframe on the 1585 and used the 5285 for engine and trans. Using both on same job is really awesome.
  14. I would have done the same as you did.
  15. The diesel work has really dried up lately. I just finish putting a 1.5 in a fusion. It was getting coolant in cyl 3 pulled head gasket was blown and the block was pitted just like the gsb shows. It looks to me like that 1.5 shop manual needs to be changed to be like 1.6 coolant in cyl replace long block.
  16. That's pretty cool. I can say that being I am not the one working on it.
  17. There is a monthly fee of like $20. if it is not used a minimum # of times per month.
  18. I came across this and thought it was interesting. A former manager had gotten us a snap on j2534 pass thru several years back and we programed a few non ford vehicles but it sure was a pain. This would make life a lot easier. One of my coworkers replaced a gmc savanna trans today and we had to send to the GM dealer to get programmed. My dealer is always sending cars out for key programming. They are giving you the kit just have to pay $125 each time its used. No subscribtion to manufacture website needed. http://www.drewtech.com/RAP/index.html
  19. They now offer input seal remover and installers. http://adaptacase.com/t-dpssac.html

  21. Ford Diagonsis and Repair System (FDRS): The Ford Diagnosis and Repair System (FDRS) is the next generation of diagnostic support for Ford and Lincoln vehicles. FDRS is used to perform diagnostics on newer model years of some vehicle lines. Click Here to see which current Model Year vehicle lines use FDRS. FDRS provides superior capabilities when compared to IDS. The system is more user-friendly and provides more diagnostic tools than IDS. The cloud based system ensures the technician is provided the latest software every time FDRS logs into the Ford network. Click Here to view the FDRS Quick Reference Guide. 22. There is a laptop program out there called Forscan. With this program customers are able to make changes to the as built data in there vehicles. Its kind of cool to be able to add or delete features but sure makes it challenging for us to work on.
  23. A lot of time if u claim more then the average repair on a legit concern they pay the average and dealer has option of resubmitting.
