  1. Quote: Gnarly week Got two words for ya "burned out". That's where I would be headed at my age trying to keep that pace. My fingers hurt just reading that week you had.
  2. Quote: Seems by inspection that #8 has grooves on the cylinder wall from a failed piston ring Quote: I would suspect someone has been dosing this unit with gogo juice in effort to get it started at some point Looks like we have a winner!
  3. After you finish with the compression test, back the rockers off for that cylinder and remove your schrader valve from the compression adapter. Put air in the cylinder and see where it comes out. If you find you have a valve problem, seeing how the head your working on is on the drivers side, it is easily removed in no time. If you have air getting into the crankcase, I would suspect someone has been dosing this unit with gogo juice in effort to get it started at some point. In that case the engine is removed just as easily as the head, with the cab on. We got a guy in our shop that can do an oil pan on one of these in less than a day (engine out). He actually has to let it sit overnight to allow the sealer to cure.
  4. Quote: Also unique to the oil pan is the use of an easy-access, patent-pending plastic drain plug - the first of its kind - which features a cam lock-fastening system that can be opened or resealed by hand Yet another thing that is of great concern to me on this engine!
  5. We had a tech that went out on his own. He's been doin pretty good for himself, but I would say he is average at best in his repairs. Unfortunately alot of customer base is ok with this, and it reflects the old adage that you get what you pay for. He has called me from time to time on my cell. And I have helped out when I can. He called yesterday and offered me a egr cooler job, at his place on my day off. I had to respectfully decline. Why? Well it sure wasn't because I dont do side work, but rather it was the offer itself. First, he only wants to do the egr cooler, and we all know that aint gonna fly, and last he was gonna pay me a handsome sum of $200.
  6. Forgot all about this thread. Back when it came out I tried it and the gage would redline and test would abort. Diferent setup now and here is my results:
  7. Quote: I absolutely HATE those cars, if we are talking about the Lincoln MKS. I guess it's safe to say that you hate the Taurus SHO as well?
  8. On a whim, the engineers at Lincoln were running there traps about the Ecoboost out running the big boys with V-8's. So the guys at Motortrend said put your money where your mouth is, and this developed, it's a nice little piece if you have 20 minutes or so to tune in..... 6 versus 8
  9. You got a practical joker in the shop f'en with ya?
  10. I drive my vehicles 'til they dont go nomore. For that reason I would not consider getting a hybrid esp. an Escape. We had one come in on the hook the other day for a no start. It needed a starter motor. Well that's the traction motor....$7000.00 dollars later the "starter" motor was replaced and back on the road.
  11. It's a very simple test and I have been doing them since the dawn of the powerstroke way back in '94. Most people don't do them now because the power balance became available with the 6.0l. Just try and do your best to keep the EOT pid at or as close to the temp when you start the test and when you finish the test. If you take a while to do the test, you may have to stop and get the temp back to your target number. Info like this is always good to know.
  12. again My wife doesn't see the humor in it, as she was looking over my shoulder.
  13. This concerns me a little bit: I have replaced a many a Escort engines because these valve seats would fall out of their aluminum heads, in the past.
  14. Quote: It's a nose to tail lift Nothing gets by you, eh?
  15. shit I got dts up all day long
  16. Quote: Other than the actuator being a little more "positive" (read that as having maybe a little more grunt). I'm not so sure about the 6.7L, it looks like they went back to a 6.0L style VGT.
  17. There are a few diferent perceptions of an overheating condition. Does the coolant gush out of the degas bottle? Does the coolant gage go into the red zone? Are the ect/eot pids climbing past 240 degrees? When it comes to a Powerstroke I look soley at the eot pid to get an idea of how hot the engine is running and whether or not it is indeed overheating. Just some thoughts.
  18. We had a brand new '07 do the samething. It whined pretty bad. Don't fuck around with trying to overhaul one of these, just replace the third member and get it out of your bay, you will be glad you did trust me. If you do get the third member, a set of old head bolts from a 6.0L are the same thread pitch and diameter as the member bolts to the case. If you have any left over from head jobs you can lop the heads off two of them and use them as guide pins, so you don't fuck up your gasket maker trying to lift that heavy bastard into position.
  19. Holy shit that thing is crammed in there. Anything goes wrong in the back under that cowl and it looks like guys are gonna opt to remove the cab, even though they said cab off wont be needed to service this engine. Man, I wish I was there. I went last year and had a blast. I was there for 7 days and only saw a fourth of the show. That place is ridiculously big. Something like 3 million square feet inside, plus all the stuff outside.
