went out on the limb yesterday with this thing and slamed 4 injectors on the right bank(the side with the new head) and as soon as I pulled it out of the shop it felt better. did a quick roadtest and it was MUCH better. going to drive it again today but it should be good to go. what a relief as Im taking the next couple days off for an extended weekend. I hate to leave my coworkers with my problem child. what caused it I dont know. maybe a low fuel pressure problem before they replaced the pump? cleaning methods when doing the head? the injectors looked pretty clean for 98k on the truck. too clean infact. does not matter too much since its fixed

no maf on this truck. i dont have a smoke machine here which sucks so i cant smoke it. i cant hear any leaks however from the cac but who knows. kinda hard to get shotgun injectors past the powers to be

Ive already been down that road then backtracked down that road to make sure. i have dropped the downpipe, then did it again to make sure nothing was up in there. nothing. inlet side of turbo is good too. again been down the road with having all the intake and air cleaner off. ebp sensor I already pulled off, swaped and cleaned the tube. replaced the connector too. guess next step is to pull off the new turbo the other dealer installed and take it apart /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/shrug.gif damn good week to take off their keith! where is bruce? he needs to download it too
-
is that download working for anyone? I see its been downloaded 13 times??

i did a few recordings and attempted to load the session zip file here. let me know if it works

i just finsihed one that had this same issue but filled the cac as well. overfuel the engine and pow no more pistons.

Ill get back on this tomorrow as I was busy getting that 6.4 back together. I hope a fresh start and fresh thinking will help. yes 50psi is the lowest I will see under wot. yup plenty of ambos to work on, they are the best thing every to work on! /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/icon_crazy.gif even better is how much they pay you /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/crybaby2.gif

yeah well getting torque converter bolts off when the engine will not even turn over is pretty much impossible, haha. lets just say it was not fun to get out without jacking up the shaft. no comments on why the cab is sitting in the other bay? maybe I shouldnt say /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cover.gif yes I have thought about the turbine wheel actually. there was no mention of it in the story but we all know how well those history storys come up in oasis. I did want to stick my bore scope up there and look for it but got side tracked. I think I will take it back down and check it out. worth a shot at this point just to be sure. I actually have a picture of one Ive come across in the past. Ill dig it up.

yeah i will get you guys a recording cause to be honest i am out of ideas. i have beat my head against the wall all day and have not been able to figure anything out. I have had nothing but headaches the last couple weeks and its wearing me out, that and my wallet is hurting from it as well. between that and not much work Im ready to go nuts! ANYWAY.... EBP was maybe 40ish psi under wot. I was thinking cat so thats why I unbolted it and ran it without. no change. not sure how much time i will get to work on it tomorrow. I have got to put this back together

Bruce I have swapped every dang sensor on this truck in theory thats what I had going on. I have swapped the ICP,IPR,EBP,VGT and the other dealer had already replaced the map sensor. I made sure the hose and fitting are clean though. I so happened to have an engine apart with easy pickins for sensor swapping so thats the positive side I guess No leaks to speak off, y-pipe sounds good. previous dealer replaced all the cac boots
-
I gotta find my print out. my mgp is getting up to 21psi under wot and high rpms. from a stop its maybe 10-15 even with my foot to the floor. this is on a hot engine. when cold it was worst and only saw maybe 15psi. I swaped vgts for the laughs and got the same result. ebp wise nothing looked out of wack and I replaced the pigtail due to no water seal and coolant that has been leaking on it. swaped a sensor too and no luck.

got one that has me stumped here. 05 f550 with a manual trans. slow to build boost and lack of power. i know manuals are a little diffrernt and sluggish normally but i was able to compare with a differnt truck and there is an issue with this one. This truck came from another dealer and was their headache. It all started with a head replacement and all of a sudden it had no power. the other dealer has replaced the turbo(complete), egr valve, ficm, icp, ebp, fuel pump, air filter and never fixed it. Its got a history a mile long of problems. 98500miles and almost out so now its crunch time. I have spent all morning with this thing to get no where. hotline(after sitting on hold for over 30mins /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif ) was not much help. I have pulled down the exhuast to check the cat, no issues there and does not affect the power issue when driving. fuel pressure is good in the 50psi range. oil level and condition seem good too. icp can build 3500-3800psi under wot. the only thing I have not got too is the ipr valve. unlikly its causing this issue however... ideas? Im stumped and ready to throw something...between this truck, a blown up 6.4 and a 6.0 thats dropped a valve Im sick of getting bent over and rapped on these trucks

I think this is my 3rd engine on a 6.4 now......
DieselD replied to DieselD's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
dont know. hard to tell actual failure when the thing is locked solid. From the looks of the cac cooler being filled with oil and the crankcase being stupid full thats probably the cause. hotline seems to think #2 is the one that gets nailed during an overfilled crankcase problem. talking with the driver he always let the thing run, said it was always regening and only changed the oil per miles not hours. -
No way they are true friends if thats the crap they are pulling. they will be back when they figure out how expensive it is to have their junk fixed. I am picky with my side work. I do mostly fabrication stuff at home since thats differnt then the run of the mill stuff I deal with at the shop. I actually find that enjoyable. Plus having a rock crawler that Ive built everyone knows what I do and get alot of offers for side jobs. however I stick to the easy stuff as I dont want a mess of a vehicle in my driveway for weeks on end when Im too busy to come home and work on someone elses vehicle. What also helps is a set price of say 50% of what the going shop rate is in your area. tell them it will be X amount of hours at this rate and take it or leave it. I had people bitch at me for charging so much or not wanting to swap their motor in there expedition, I just laugh and tell them to take it a shop. I dont make a living on charity work

yeah I was one of the lucky people to get bent over on this deal. I just so happened to get a uhaul truck needed a program the day they released that program. It blanked the IC and not the TCM howwever. countless phone calls to hotline and getting forwarded to other departments got me the go ahead to replace the cluster under warranty. something with the calibration was blanking modules. of course I got the 9th degree of making sure battery chargers and ids was pluuged in. of course I did all that crap. then come to find out it had a prototype FWS system on it and that may have been causing problems which got me into getting ahold of engineering that deals with that. what a mess needless to say I lost my butt on that job /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banghead.gif

DieselD replied to DieselD's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
yeah it was cylinder 2. i also had signs of meltdown on 1,3,5, and 7. Alot of metal transfer to the head on those holes. my first motor was toast on 2 and 4. we have another truck they has a bent #8 rod from a cooler failure hydrolock -
really a head bolt recall? that would be sweet as im sure it will pay like .5 to swap them out /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/rotz.gif
-
haha, yeah that's what Ive heard. I have yet to deal with one....

Let's do this sensible....
DieselD replied to Jim Warman's topic in Upgrade and Aftermarket Equipment
my dad can get 18mpg avg on his and about 500miles to the tank. its an 04 extended cab. but Ive heard anything from 10-20 really. It varys too much on driving habits there are plenty of mods for the 6.0. some greater than others but stay away from that edge and do not stack tuners(ie tuner then those power pack modules) custom tunes with an SCT tuner are probably the best bet. building good reliable power seems to be stupid money in a 6.0 -
2000 7.3 programming question
DieselD replied to kevin phillips's topic in 7.3L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
check out dptuner.com or Dennis over at ITPdiesel.com. I know dennis personally and is a good dude. They can hook you up with a custom tune to run that trans. -
Ive pumped 100psi into several trucks now to find my fuel in coolant concerns. plug the block heater in and get it good and warm too. I think everyone Ive had has been the right head only. this is what hotline was directing a while back before the removing injectors and spraying soap in the holes
-
go with a 7.3 since they wont launch spark plugs through your hood /forums/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cover.gif
-
I just had a 6.4 that was built that way. i could not even raise the hood all the way. what a pain in the ass that was!! but really 6.0 heads are gravy kid.....do enough of them and you will be cruising through them in no time. believe it or not I find them easier doing cab on rather than cab off

Are You Replacing DPF's?
DieselD replied to Keith Browning's topic in 6.4L Power Stroke® Diesel Engines
I have done several as well.... -
burned up 6.4 anyone. thought this valve was worthy of a picture. taken from my phone so not the best. nice piston to go with... only 15kmiles. APS boom truck that was "just driving down the road and blew lots of smoke and stalled. will not crank" something was causing an overfuel concern but kinda hard to know with a locked up engine that does not run. willing to bet it was do the very overfilled crankcase packing oil into the CAC
