  1. Anyone in the transmission business/industry has likely heard of Gil Younger. I heard through the grape vine that he passed away in the last couple days. RIP, Mr. Shift. It's hard to think of anyone who has been more influential to the transmission industry. Measuring his impact would be like trying to measure Wes Montgomery's influence on guitar players everywhere. Not only did he create the valve body kit industry, (until him the whole concept of a shift kit did not exist), but for others like Steve Younger, Tony Garcin, and myself, Gil established a "par" that we unconsciously used as a standard to have to meet or exceed in our product design. Even now, while i strive to break into new territory, to really be a completely independent free thinker, doing whatever it takes to solve problems, even if it requires creating new concepts and technology not done before.. it would be difficult, no, impossible, to deny and leave behind the influence Gil has had on my thinking and approach to transmission repair. His influence was second to only one other man, my dear late friend Tony Garcin. So, Gil... Rest in peace my old friend. You will be missed, but your legacy remains with us all.
  2. If I can help it, I won't ever go back to working flat rate. Why should the technician suffer if the people running the place can't get cars through the door?
  3. I was waiting for the part where you handed him the charged condenser....
  4. I worked at a Toyota store that was like that. They pooled all the hours and then divided them equally among the team members. Which was great for the guy who made 11 hours a fucking week.
  5. You can grind the flats on an EPC solenoid for the direct solenoid, but it's a little more complex than that, that's just the surface of it.
  6. You might as well overhaul the whole thing. I talked a mechanic friend through replacing the intermediate shaft on his via text on the weekend lol. They're pretty cake to rebuild. Is your truck chipped?
  7. ^^ Yep. And some trucks had a shit pile of rads, and some didn't. And my truck hasn't ever had any coolant leaks, other than the radiator, which started to leak at 110k miles. On the updated thermostats for probably the previous 40k miles, venturi tee from day 1.
  8. You're too fast LOL. Was going to say yep, have seen a few of them.
  9. Claim it under warranty and send the FE back as the core
  10. Day job, setting up a GT500 for some drag racing action. Barney job, 6.7 turbocharger, I didn't know you could measure turbo shaft play with a tape measure.
  11. trying to remember on what, though. Old F-150's?
  12. That pigtail is similar to the old-timey MAF connector, isn't it? (The fan one)
  13. How about a 460 with a roots blower on it to get that tunaboat rolling?
  14. Among the front cover leaking, if it's been ran low/overheated I'd definitely check the EGR coolers for leaks as well.
  15. Mishimoto makes an all-aluminum replacement 6.4 radiator now. It's pretty. Lists @ $855 on their website.
  16. The DLC pigtail isn't cheap though. WPT-615 is the pigtail number if I recall rightly.
  17. Even stuff that doesn't require annual safety? I seem to recall something about that. Same with ABS lights... if it's got ABS past a certain year, it's gotta work.
  18. The only real way to improvement in fuel economy on a 6.4 is against federal emissions regulations.
  19. I'm going with "MADE IN MEXICO" stamped into the top of the center of the core. The thermostats and low coolant are currently the explanation, I think, aren't they?
  20. Law here is NO tint on the front windows (adjacent to the driver). PERIOD. It's enforced about once every never.
  21. How long time wise was the exhaust failure to the actual meltdown, I wonder?
  22. "Cousin Eddie" from Christmas Vacation comes to mind.

  24. It's even funnier if you have watched the videos. I watched a few of em, I usually can't make it past the first few minutes. My favorite part is when he starts going on about his proprietary head gasket coating, or how awesome the Edge tuning is.
