  1. That statement reflects perfectly, on why working on vehicles from the States is an orgasm to me. I don't think I ever get vehicles that are five years or older that are so clean under the body you can eat off them, or NOT needing the use of a flame wrench to get apart. American customers tend to throw GENEROUS tips at me too. What is this a custom I'm not aware of?
  2. I would go 30 to 35.Way to hit the mother load there Aaron!!!
  3. Does the engine rev up to 3800 RPM at WOT in Park or Neutral, and maintain that RPM?
  4. I don't even know why we even bother having QC550s, given that most techs (at my store) either check them off all greens, or don't bother checking them at all. Case in point. Even FWD or RWD vehicles get the transfer case fluid level checked GREEN, or CV boots on RWD vehicles. Or the hood light checked off on vehicles not equipped.
  5. I've had TWO trucks darken my doorstep, in on the hook as no-starts, caused by such devices. BOTH trucks originated from Alberta (on the OASIS report). BOTH were caused by the device stuck closed, starving the engine for air.
  6. LOL be grateful you even have that. Our one resident advisor likes to write up work orders under the heading "Diesel Repairs" even when there's absolutely NOTHING to do with diesel engine driveability!!!! And then in the complaint field, there's NOTHING even written, just my number preassigned to the RO.
  7. Kinda reminds me of a situation where a 2003 Thunderbird (The "two-door Lincoln LS" version for those of you who aren't in the know") was brought in for regular maintenance (one of which included a coolant flush). The said "tech" completed the service, and as he was driving the vehicle out of the shop, I saw a blood trail of coolant following the vehicle as he drove it out. I then heard the cooling starting the scream its lungs out as he drove it out as well. As he walked back into the shop I pointed this out to him, and he ignored me. Later on, I walked into the service area and asked which one of the three advisors was the one involved with this vehicle, at which point I reported my observations. Later on in the day, the vehicle was parked up against a fence, with the front fascia pressing into the fence hard enough to put scratches on the fascia. When I noticed this, I reported this to another advisor to pass onto my SM the next day. I figured that this regular customer was NOT someone that our service department should want to piss off, by having his vehicle returned to him with scratches that weren't there before (along with a coolant leak that wasn't there before too?). The next day, I get "confronted" by this tech completely denying any wrong doing. To add insult to injury, he goes on to accuse ME of driving a truck into the shop and accidently "pushing into the back of this car into the fence" (He knows that I'm the only tech at our shop that works on "diesels")!!! That day, I heard other techs in the shop referring to me as a "rat". This by the way, was the same tech referred to in paragraph #3 of this thread: http://www.forddoctorsdts.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=17904#Post17904
  8. That guy almost looks like he has MY build, and even I would refuse to do the job any other way, other than CAB OFF....... which I'm sure most of you know by now. Yes, it's funny you should ask that Mutter. I was just thinking the exact same thing too.
  9. That's the second one of them "kits" that I've replaced now, and both didn't have perforations on top.
  10. Just doing another set of coolers this morning, and I noticed the 3C3Z-6A642-CA "kit" is slightly different than the original core. The original core on the left has perforations on top, while the replacement core on the right, doesn't. Is there any reason for this? Anyone care to comment? Bruce?
  11. To add to Bruce's post, how are the IMRCs working? I believe that engine is equipped with them too.
  12. Those little punks tooting around in those so-called "rice rockets", you know those beat up old Jap crap pieces of turds on wheels (mostly Honda Civics) with those fart can exhausts? THOSE are the ones that I think SHOULD be getting harrassed by our local constabulary on a day-to-day basis. In fact, THOSE are the pieces of turds on wheels that I wouldn't feel bad seeing the engines blown up under that so-called "cash-for-clunkers" deal that you folks down South have going.
  13. Let me guess, you just changed one of them fancy dancy 4.6/5.4L 3-valve spark plugs in all eight holes and went a little overboard?
  14. Thanks. We're very short-handed at our store. With that in mind, it is generally quicker for me to look up and order my own parts myself. My manager is pretty good with keeping the "frequently moved" parts in stock.
  15. Damn I miss going to Michigan for my "vacations". Ever since my aunt left Northville after living in Michigan for over 40 years to retire in Hawaii in 2001, I haven't had any reason to return there. I STILL remember how easy it was to navigate through all the "Mile Roads" that run east and west. I still probably remember most of the major roads (Telegraph, Middlebelt, Inkster, West Grand Rapids, etc.).
  16. Okay, to try to make things less confusing, what I'm trying to achieve, is to price out a clutch "kit" for this vehicle, which comes out substantially less expensive than ordering all those pieces individually. However, when you attempt to look up a kit for a 2003 model year, a message comes up in Microcrap that clearly states "no clutch kit offered for 2003 model year vehicles". BUT, when you load up a newer model year vehicle (ie a 2006), I come up with a 3C3Z-7L596-EA "kit" which includes a 7548, 7550, 7563 and 7600. Yet, when you break down all those parts to individual part numbers, it comes up to the same part numbers I'm getting in HvBOM in the original post. That being said, my question is, can I still use the "kit" despite the fact that Microcrap tells me otherwise, when I load the VIN in to look it up?
  17. This part number changes up as follows in HvBOM: Can one of you parts gurus clarify this for me please? As I understand it, it's telling me this particular vehicle is equipped with a dual mass flywheel, that requires being replaced with a single mass unit. What I am unsure of, is if there is a clutch kit that can be purchased to make it less expensive? Vehicle in question is a 2003 F-350 with ZF 6 speed, manual 4WD. Better yet, here's the VIN: 1FTWW33P43EC97252 Thanks in advance
  18. Funny you should ask that. I tried playing around with the 4WD selector switch as the customer was driving, and there was no change in the noise. Noise is heard while in 2WD or 4WD.
  19. Good evening gents. I have one here, that I've been asked to drive home for the evening. Vehicle description is in the thread title. The complaint is a one time unwarranted traction control event, as I understood it during acceleration. The second complaint (the one that can be duplicated), is a "grunt", "buzz" or "squeak" noise heard during moderate to heavy acceleration. Apparently, the duration of the noise is greater at highway speeds, hence the request for me to drive the vehicle home. Apparently, our shop foreskin thought it to be a "heat shield buzz" when he heard the noise. Vehicle was already placed on a lift to check for loose heat shields. Customer already took me for a brief road test in the city streets to indicate the noise. To me, it sounds more like a "ratcheting" type noise, like a driveline component slipping. Checked OASIS. Found TSB article 09-6-1. Funny enough, during the drive home I can almost duplicate the sound when accelerating in a manner where a downshift to 3rd is warranted. I'm not a tranny guy, so I was just wondering if any of you have come across this particular issue before? Has anyone actually had a 6R75 apart for this TSB yet?
